My penultimate Nolan film before The Odyssey, and a very solid one at that. From the performances delivered by Al Pacino and Robin Williams to the murder mystery at the centre, it’s an incredibly well written, acted and gripping film that is amplified by its perpetual daylight setting. I really enjoyed seeing a more stripped back Nolan film, and I also appreciated the more dramatic turn from Williams - he always excels in a strong drama. The story doesn’t just deliver a murder mystery, but a character study with fantastic exploration into paranoia, guilt and the nature of truth. Really thought-provoking stuff. The runtime dragged a little in places as some scenes were stretched too thin, but it always delivers something solid within the best scene.
