My journey through Richard Chamerlain's work has brought me to Shogun, a five-part mini series. Shogun is a strong film adaptation of the novel by James Clavell about the sailor John Blackthorne (Chamberlain) who is shipwrecked with his Dutch crew and ends up in feudal Japan where warlords fight each other. He becomes the first Western Shogun, an 'upper Samurai'. I never watched the series back in 1980 - I was way too young for it, but I'm impressed.

Superb camera work by Andrew Laszlo who makes good use of the landscape. Director Jerry London knows how to give the film the utmost authenticity by using the Japanese language.
