“i have no one. i’m all alone”
devastatingly tender and completely singular, this was clearly made with a lot of care and it shows. the animation is beautiful but it never overpowers the story, instead the two intertwine and flow together to create a moving final product. i really recommend this one, i almost missed it myself
Insanely powerful and raw but I feel like the style kinda held me back from fully connecting with it unfortunately
A visually arresting and powerful reminder that thousands have to fight for basic things that many of us take for granted.
Cant stop crying for a good 15 minutes after the last scene. I hope I could give Amin a hug. This is an important story, not just for refugees, but for all of us who are fleeing from something, hoping that sometime somewhere we can finally find home.
not entirely the case, but using a choppy animation to recollect a distant memory and an even choppier, more abstract style to illustrate trauma was pretty evocative.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
For my last Sundance watch today, I picked Flee. This is a harrowing story of an Afghan refugee and the incredible journey he took to end up in Denmark.
The animation is very creative as it serves both to protect the storyteller's identity and visualize the memories he describes. I am happy his journey ended in a happy place as many refugee stories do not, and it is a reminder that many among us have powerful life experiences which we will never know.
Flee is one of those films that as soon as you leave the theater, you want to tell everyone around you to watch it. And you should.
The animation is beautiful, Amin’s story is powerful.
Please seek this out.
FLEE is a powerful true story of one refugee’s life with the threat of capture & death hanging over him every day. Blends animation & documentary filmmaking with ‘80s pop music & hauntingly beautiful imagery to create an unforgettable feat of storytelling! Completely blown away!
