[Video clicks on, and Lo! It's the enclosure! You can tell that it's the enclosure, because the first thing that Horatio broadcasts are blue skies and white sails. After a moment, he pans down, and it becomes clear that he is standing in a quaint English port town, on the deck of small frigate. The streets and ship are uncannily empty.]
This is Plymouth. Or, it's how Plymouth might look if it had been beset by the plague.
[He pans around, giving you all a shot of the open sea.]
And that is the English channel. Or, the best impression that the Barge can do.
Since I came to the Barge, I've rowed out into these waters a number of times. Taken small boats, sailed a little. The seas are always kind, and the sun is always warm, but it isn't really sailing. Not like being on a real ship.
[He sounds a little wistful, then swivels his communicator around so that he's facing it.]
This is a merchant frigate. It has no guns, and no cargo. It's smaller than the first prize ship I ever sailed. In fair weather - which is a constant, here - it would take maybe eight souls to man this ship.
[And, finally, he has the grace to look sheepish.]
I thought perhaps if enough people were interested, we might sail out a few miles. We could drop anchor somewhere and... [Pause] ...Well, traditionally when times are quiet it wouldn't be unheard of for seamen to get drunk and swim in the sea.
[AKA: Horatio would like to go on a boat, and he is trying to bribe you all with a party.]

I'd take you up on that... if you'd have me, that is.
[private video]
I would be most glad of your company, Sir.
[private video]
On my way, then.
[And he is--he grabs a sweater just in case, and heads to the Enclosure. There is much on the Barge that upsets and distresses him. He thinks that moments like this just might make up for all the rest.]

[BUT. HE WON'T LIE. YOU LOOK PRETTY BEEFY, DUDE, AND THAT IS A GOOD TRAIT TO HAVE IN A SAILOR.]

I will however be bringing limes. For Mojitos.
[His last inmate introduced Horatio to Mojitos, and he has never looked back.]

I'm not much of a sailor, but I love ships. I could ensure the wind is always in your favor.
Why is the weather constantly fair?

[And. One that probably makes you a witch, if seamen's stories are to be believed. But this is the Barge, and if someone is a witch, that is their own business. Certainly it would be rude to ask.]
Of course, you are more than welcome to come with us, whether you bring the winds or not.
And this is the enclosure, madam. The weather is whatever you ask of it here.

But. Oh. The sun.]
It is never overcast?
[voice]
I think it could be, if I specified.
Or we could hoist a sail for shade?

[Pause. Okay, full disclosure:]
Or, it is usually less obvious. If you hate it, I'll row you back to shore personally.

I understand that ships get safer and more comfortable for long voyages, in your era, but I do not personally believe that they ever become more beautiful than in mine.

The Enclosure. I'm keeping the door until noon, and then we'll set off.

video;
It looks like a sturdy thing, even if Poe knows it probably wouldn't be, up against the sort of weaponry he knows. But that's a fairly depressing and unnecessary thought, so he's glad to turn his attention to Horatio instead. ]
Pretty place. Is it your home?
[ And then he grins. ]
Hey, if it gets you out there, sign me up. You gonna teach people to crew this ship of yours?
video;
He tries not to let it get to him, but inferiority complex ho.]
What, Plymouth? No, not at all. I've been here while I was docked, or sometimes I'd stop here for repairs. I didn't really have a home, other than the sea.
[But Poe wants to come! Even on his tiny, rubbish frigate! Horatio smiles back, quick and earnest.]
And I certainly intend to try, if people are willing to learn. If it's just a few hours out and back, I think we can get by on just the fundamentals of sail...

No, I didn't want to, but I did.
Not here in Plymouth, but we saw it.
