Hey
is now a good time?
[Spam]
[Maelle sits in the library, not so unusual. Today's she's at a table, a stack of books beside her that are far larger in size than her usual collection. Definitely more.. textbook shaped. One hand holds her head as she stares between the page and her other hand as she bends her fingers into different shapes and positions. Every so often she'll look away to try without the book's help. Something goes wrong, she shakes her wrist, huffs a harsh breath and goes back to staring at the book, a little more defeated than the last time.
It's.. a process.]

He's got a button up shirt on, different than his usual layers and sweater, and peaking from the top buttons is a compression wrap. He slips into the library, keen on finding something that is low energy he can start bringing to work, but spotting Maelle, he takes a detour, pulling out a chair and sitting with a soft oof.]
Hey, what's shakin' bugaboo?
no subject
Just trying to learn how to
[What can she even call it? There's a pause but she gives up.]
talk, I guess.
[She adds on, before offering the device.]
Where've you been? Everything okay?
[Did you die or something?]
no subject
Oh! Yeah? That's awesome. I know a couple signs, try this one-
[He makes a sign, hand wiggling up with the pointer and thumb pinched, though its perhaps a little less enthusiastic than usual. He goes to laugh and he coughs instead, gently rubbing his chest.]
That one means Ghost.
And yeah, I'm fine. Got some work done I've been meaning to since I was your age. Laid me out on my ass, I'll tell you what.
no subject
So are you
feeling better?
[She's not going to say you look a bit rough but.. it's implied.]
no subject
He does shrug though, leaning forward with his arms folded on the table.]
Um, I will be? Just...gotta break in all my new bits. You'd think new lungs and heart'd be the worst part but like, I am so over broth, even if John makes it taste good.
I miss chewing. I never thought that'd be like, a thing I say out loud.
[Which of course he says so casually even though what he'd needed done and gotten done was a well kept secret. No big deal now that it was said and done, right?]

He pauses when he sees Maelle.
"Are you practicing sign language?" He asks, because he has to put in effort to not ask questions, and being up during the 'day' leaves him a little easier to distract.

I guess it depends on the date. When did you learn?

[Her lab can be a bit chaotic on a good day.]
Private
Should I go to your cabin?
[Then again, does she even know where that is? It's probably fine, she can figure that out.]
Re: Private
I'm in 810 by the way.
Re: Private
Sorry, what do you mean replicate?
[What in the barge, Tendi.]

Not that long. Maybe a week or two? It's
kind of hard to remember it all.

What's not happening that you want to happen?

She takes out her device to type out her answer.]
Words.
Well, letters I guess.
[She hasn't even gotten into word territory yet.
When she offers her communicator, she turns the textbook toward Vaggie as well. It's clearly for sign language, if Vaggie is familiar.]
no subject
Oh, that'd be handy. Probably annoying to type everything out.
no subject
Sometimes.
But it's more than I had back home so
I can't complain.
[She complains a lot. Just not about the device directly.]
