About this site
lamountains.com is an independent archive project. Its purpose is to preserve and make accessible the original park information published between the early 2000s and 2017 by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy (SMMC) and its operating arm, the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA), at the original lamountains.com address.
How this site came to be
The lamountains.com domain name was allowed to expire and was acquired by me, SALMON QUENTIN, in 2024. Rather than let a domain that had served as a public resource for Los Angeles hikers, cyclists, and park visitors for nearly two decades disappear, I chose to restore its original content from public snapshots preserved on the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine.
Every park page on this site is a republication of material originally written and published by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. Each page carries an “Archive note” banner linking back to the specific Wayback Machine snapshot it was restored from, so visitors can always trace the original source.
What this site is — and what it is not
This site is:
- A faithful restoration of the park pages that existed on lamountains.com through 2017.
- Attributed to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, which holds the copyright on the original text and photographs.
- Useful as a historical reference for the parks of the Santa Monica Mountains, the Los Angeles River corridor, and the surrounding conservancy lands.
This site is not:
- Operated by, affiliated with, or endorsed by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, the MRCA, the National Park Service, California State Parks, or the City or County of Los Angeles.
- A source of current, up-to-date information. Opening hours, phone numbers, access points, trail conditions, and park rules may have changed since 2017. Please verify anything you plan to act on with the official sources below.
