When I was 17 I got a paid internship to a centre in Africa. As part of the travel requirements, I had to take a ton of vaccinations for diphtheria, yellow fever, hepatitis A/B, and take a weekly preventative for malaria.
The weekly dose was Lariam. If you’ve never taken it, you start it a week before you travel somewhere where you may be exposed to malaria, and then you are meant to keep it up for two weeks after you get back.
I was gone for 8 weeks, so I had an extended dose of Lariam.
