Thank You for Protecting Our Sea Turtles
May 13, 2026
The Village would like to extend sincere thanks to our oceanfront property owners and managers for their outstanding cooperation during sea turtle nesting season. We are proud to report full compliance across all oceanfront properties throughout the Village, reflecting our shared commitment to protecting these threatened species and preserving our coastal environment.
Your efforts play a vital role in ensuring hatchlings can safely make their way to the ocean.
Turtle Season Reminders for Residents
As nesting season continues through October 31, residents can help by following these simple tips:
- Keep lights turtle‑friendly: Turn off, shield, or use approved amber lighting visible from the beach after sunset.
- Remove beach furniture nightly: Chairs, umbrellas, and other items should be cleared to prevent obstacles for nesting turtles and hatchlings.
- Fill in holes and flatten sand: This helps turtles move safely across the beach.
- Give nesting turtles space: If you see a turtle, keep your distance and avoid using flashlights or phones.
- Report concerns: Contact local authorities if you observe a nesting turtle in distress or lighting issues near the beach.
