in general...
Did you know that if you send out an invitation on Evite, it lets you know who has viewed the invitation? I was unaware of this. I thought I'd share.
I am 0 for 2 with mushrooms. I guess I need stronger stuff for ANYTHING at all to happen. argh. Had an amazing weekend, nonetheless. Also, banana smoothies are marvelous. Especially with a bit of cocoa and cardamom added.
I was supposed to start work today, but since my main boss and the person I'll be reporting to are both away from the office today, I'll be starting tomorrow instead. I get to have a work email address and my presence as a new employee was announced via a company email today, on which I was cc'ed. My boss wrote this in the email: "I was very impressed with Angela's easy-going personality, her cheeriness and her organizational skills and am thrilled she is joining us." This is very squeeful for me. Eeep! I guess it was thoroughly helpful to walk in there believing that I didn't need a job so that I could be more relaxed about the whole process.
I've been reading a lot about birth lately, and especially a lot about unassisted birth. I am annoyed with the fact that it seems to be a prevailing attitude among UCers (UC = unassisted childbirth) that it's ok to "play dumb" by saying things like "It happened so fast! I didn't even know I was in labour!" to get out of being harrassed by midwives and doctors. I completely understand WHY UCers feel compelled to do this, and I would likely do it too if I thought it would help get people from unnecessarily haranguing me, but I'm annoyed by it because I think it undermines "the establishment's" faith in women in general to understand what is happening with their bodies. I wish it were more accepted by everyone that, for the most part, women's bodies know how to give birth. The women themselves may be fearful and panicky, which I think is primarily due to culturally-induced fear about the process (fear of pain, fear of death, fear of... anything and everything that could go wrong, etc.), but their bodies will do what they need to do, and they'll be more effective if the process isn't hampered.
I guess it's not so much that I'm annoyed with the UCers; I'm annoyed with society, in general. Surprise, surprise. And no, I'm really not ready to discuss UC or views thereof any further than this, just so ya know.
N and I played with ice cubes this weekend. For those of you not in the know, I HATE ICE CUBES ON MY SKIN. In BDSM terms, I consider cold to be a hard limit. Fucking hate cold with a passion and ice cubes are COLD! But he was helping me practice pain-coping techniques using ice cubes to inflict pain. I did really damn well. I impressed the both of us. There were a few times I started hyperventilating due to the pain, but on the whole, I managed to stay fairly calm and present. Definitely a helpful experience overall. And definitely confidence-inspiring, which is exactly what I need. This is only the beginning. I love exploring different types of pain.
That reminds me, I should call and schedule a pap. [Done] This country is so awesome when it comes to reproductive health. I love Canada! I don't have to pay for paps or std testing (at the clinic I go to), even though I STILL don't have OHIP (health insurance).
I have three of the four police clearances. There was a hang-up with Missouri -- I used the wrong fingerprint card. I used the one that was good for EVERYTHING ELSE, including RCMP and FBI, but they don't like that one; they want me to use THEIRS, so that is costing me more time and effort. I hope they accept what I'm sending them. It's on their card, but the lady who did it was less than proficient with a couple of fingers. The originals, which I have to send with the newer ones, also which MO doesn't like, are perfect. I hate red tape. I just want my PR card. I have the money for it and everything. Just gimme the card, dammit!
I'm going shopping this evening for more work clothes because I don't have much at all to wear.
Also, I love goats.
