Kenning Lexicon

[Developer’s note: This project is led by Jana Krüger and the articles, conceptual structure and kenning analyses are by Jana Krüger and Vivian Busch. Tarrin Wills designed the database structure and interface, and provided the initial lemmatisations from the new Lexicon Poeticum.]

Kenning Lexicon is based on the Skaldic Project’s editions and link directly to the Skaldic Database. Interpretations of kennings may nevertheless differ here. The stanza text, prose word order, translation, kenning referents in square brackets and variants are all linked from the Skaldic Project and clicking on these will take you to the Skaldic Project. When referencing the text and translation of particular kennings, the Skaldic Project should be cited. Otherwise, when referencing the classification of kennings and kenning elements according to class, or when referencing the published Kenning Lexicon articles, the Kenning Lexicon and its authors should be cited. The counts of e.g. kennings by class shown on this site may include unpublished material from the Skaldic Project, but unpublished editions are not shown here. Embargoed material from the Skaldic Project will also be shown here in a limited form — see the Skaldic Project site for more information on how to get access to embargoed editions for yourself or your institution.

Tarrin Wills is currently working on an updated interface to the Lexicon.

Fully analysed kennings: 10315
