Dad's grumpy again, well he's always grumpy. It's almost Christmas vacation, we're gonna be moving again, some place cold. That's why we had to get up at the butt crack of dawn this morning to go to some stupid church bizarre so we can find some nice winter clothes. I'd rather be sleeping, Dean too but dad's all the early bird...blah blah blah.

Dean grumbled a bit too much this morning and ended up with a crack upside the head and a threat of more if he didn't keep his off colored comments to himself. I'd usually complain a bit myself but after hearing the sharpness of crack that Dean received I kept my complaints to myself. Just put my jacket on and climbed into the backseat and waited.

The church was pretty close by so I didn't even get a chance to nap in the car. There were a few cars in the parking lot already but I figured most of them belonged to the old ladies that were setting up the sale. Sometimes I can judge a sale before we even get inside, it can depend on a myriad of things; the size of the church, the size of the town, the outlying towns, where the money came from in a town, if the citizens of the town dressed nicely and had nice things; all things could make the difference between a good sale or a bad sale. Although Dad said there was no such thing as a bad sale if we could find something that fit us; Dad didn't care much for style, if it fit and didn't have any holes in it and wasn't that expensive; he'd buy it and make us wear it.

This town seemed pretty cool, we haven't lived here long but most of the kids in school dress nice, I'm hoping that their families have donated stuff to the bizarre so I can get some almost stylish clothes to wear. I'd like to start the new year off at a new school not dressing like a hobo. It's bad enough being the new kid but dressing like a poor new kid makes it way worse.

Anyway, dad pulled up to the church and parked. I was about open my door but dad said “Wait. Let's go over the rules one more time. Dean?”

I could tell that Dean wanted to roll his eyes but instead he rubbed his head a little and sighed. “Look for clothes that don't have holes, or aren't close to falling apart, no clothes with inappropriate saying or anything that'll get me in trouble at school. Look for clothes that Sammy can wear when I outgrow them. I know dad this isn't my first rodeo.”

I thought for sure dad was gonna bitch but he just kinda tilted his head and then turned to me. “Sammy?”

“Look for clothes that will fit me for awhile, a size or two bigger so they can last longer, look for a warm winter jacket, and gloves, nothing too expensive.”

“And?”

“And I can look at the books but only after I find a few suitable clothes; I have to show you what I found first, once you give me the go ahead, I can pick out one book and one book only, and if I whine at all about wanting another book I wont get any at all.” it was the same rule anytime we went to any type of rummage sale and I'm sad to admit that on more than one occasion I whined and lost the book altogether. I've gotten a lot better though.

Dad seem pleased with us being able to recite the rules back to him. We walked together into the church basement, the place was packed with tables piled high with all sorts of clothes, I spotted the book section right away, it was packed. I wanted more than anything to go over and see what they had but that was against the rules so I followed dad and Dean over to the clothes and tried to find something I liked as fast as possible. Dad made me walk around forever and then he made me try on everything I had picked out and everything that he had picked out for me.

I gotta give dad points though the clothes he picked out for me were actually things that I would have picked out for myself. He was learning. Finally he gave me the nod to go to the books. I went running. I gotta say this church sale had the best selection of books I had ever seen. It took me well over an hour to go through all the shelves. I had a small pile going. It was a thing I did, I'd set aside all the books I liked and then slowly went through to get down to the one that I really wanted. Usually my stack wasn't as big as it was but this place had an amazing collection.

I wasn't even half way done going through my pile when I saw dad heading my way. I started going faster not wanting to piss him off and risk losing my book. He didn't even seem to notice that I had a pile of books, just asked me if I'd seen Dean anywhere . I hadn't seen him in awhile, so I shook my head. Dad grumbled something about that damn kid before turning back to look for him. I watched him walk away and went back to my books. About a half hour later dad was back asking if I'd spotted Dean yet. To be honest I hadn't even been paying attention so I shook my head again. Dad slapped his thigh and grumbled “fuckin kid.” then he sighed that sigh that he sighs when he's pissed off and about to explode. Then he looked down at me and my pile of books. “I'm gonna make another run around to see if I can find him, pick out your book and get ready to leave.”

He walked away again, leaving me with my stack of books. An old man came and sat next to me. “Seems like you found yourself a few books there kiddo.” I smiled at him, a little leery of some strange dude, but I figured he couldn't be so bad, it was a church after all. “Your gonna be reading well into the new year with all those.”

“I can only get one.” I said with a sigh. “I'm trying to decide which one I want to get.”

“Only one book? Out of all these?” he said picking up a few from my pile. “You got a tough choice there kiddo. I've read a lot of these they are all good books.”

“I know, I've read a few of them.” I said taking the ones back from him and setting them in my no go pile. “I just thought it'd be cool to have them at home so I could read them whenever I wanted.”

The man was about to say something when someone screamed, then there was some shouting. I looked over to where the screaming was coming from and watched as some lady pulled Dean out of the dressing room by his ear, he had his pants down around his ankles and his shirt was all unbuttoned. I couldn't figure out why some lady would be upset at Dean for trying on clothes and then I saw the girl, her skirt was all rumpled and her hair was all crazy and I knew that we were in the middle of a repeat of what happened a few years back at the store with Dean and the dressing room. For as smart as my brother seemed to be, he wasn't a quick learner.

I watched as dad went marching towards him. I heard his booming voice asking what in the hell was going on. He got one look at Dean and I thought his head was gonna explode. The women holding Dean's ear passed him off to dad and dad grabbed his other ear.

I was to far away but I figured out what was being said. I set my pile of books down and headed towards the commotion. Dad had Dean apologizing and then he ordered him to the car with a solid swat to the ass that had him skipping a step.

Dean ran off with his head down and dad came over to me. “You got your book picked out kiddo? We're gonna head home now. I'm gonna have to kill your brother.”

“I didn't find one that I wanted, I'm just gonna go to the car with Dean.” I really wanted a book but I knew Dean was gonna be in so much trouble, it just kinda ruined the whole thing for me. Although as I was walking towards the car I had second thoughts, because having a book to read in the car while Dean was in the apartment getting his ass beat ten ways to Sunday would be better than sitting in the apartment listening to it. I was gonna turn around see if I could get to dad before he cashed out but I saw him coming out of the church with our bags. I turned and went to him any way to help him carry the bags.

He thanked me as I opened the trunk for him. We climbed into the car without another word. Dad didn't say anything to Dean, just put the car in drive and headed towards the house. When we pulled into our parking spot dad growled at Dean to get his ass into the house. Dean ran, practically tripping over his own feet as he went.

Dad popped the trunk and I help him carry the bags into the apartment. Dean was sitting on the couch watching TV. One look at dad and I could tell that shit was about to hit the fan. I didn't even make it to the bathroom before dad's voice boomed. “Dean? What in the hell are you doing?”

“I'm watching TV dad, I don't see what the big deal is. Why do you have your panties in such a bunch?”

I thought my eyes were gonna bug out of my head, dad growled low in his throat before grabbing Dean up, off, and over the couch and planting him down in front of him. “I don't know who the hell you think your talking to little boy, but you better stop sassing me. Now you march your ass into your bed room and find yourself a corner.” dad let him go and watching him march into the room, Dean being the idiot that he sometimes is slammed the door behind him.

Dad just ran a hand over his face and then turned to me. “Sammy-boy I think your brother has a death wish. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna kill him before Christmas.”

“Sweet, does that mean I can have his Christmas presents?” I didn't mean to say it out loud but I did and dad burst out with one of his rare belly laughs.

“Sure Kiddo.” he clapped me on the back and then headed towards the kitchen and the bags from the church. “Do you wanna help me wash these new clothes? We can head on down to the laundry room and then grab some breakfast.”

Any other time I would have said no, I'm not a big fan of spending one on one time with John Winchester, but he seemed to be in a good mood for someone who's about to kill his oldest son. So I said okay and grabbed for a few bags. I grabbed for one bag but dad smacked my hand away. I gave him a look as I pulled my hand away. “Owe, dad what the heck did you do that for?”

“That bag doesn't need to be washed kid, last time I checked we don't wash books.” Dad winked at me and waved his hands towards the bag. I opened it up to find my entire stack of books. I looked up at dad and he smiled “Some old guy at the sale said that you were having a hard time picking just one book, said he was trying to get rid of as many as possible so he gave me a good deal.” I reached in and started pulling out book after book. “You can read as much as you want to but only after you finish all your homework, your chores and your training. Got it?” I nodded without even bothering to look up. I'd never owned this many books at one time before. “Come on kiddo, lets go get these clothes washed. I wanna get these all done and then eat. I'm gonna need some energy to kill your brother.”

The laundry room was pretty empty so we were able to use a few machines at once. We left the clothes while they were washing and headed out to the local dinner for some breakfast. Dad let me order whatever I wanted and even asked me about the books that I had picked out. Soon enough the food was gone and we headed back to the laundry room. We transferred our clothes from the washers to the dryers and then headed back up to the apartment.

It had started to rain earlier, just a sprinkle at first but now it was straight up pouring. I had hoped that the rain would stop so I could sit out on the balcony and start reading one of my new books while dad was dealing with Dean. Now it looked like I was gonna have to settle for turning the TV up really loud.

I could hear the music thumping from our apartment before we even got upstairs. Dad just growled and sped up a little. He ushered me into the apartment and then slammed the door shut behind him. “Why don't you check to see whats on TV while I go deal with your brother.” dad offered with a tight smile.

I watched as he walked down the hall to our room before plopping down on the couch. I reached for the remote and settled in. I turned the TV on started surfing for something to watch and then the TV went blank. Friggin storm had knocked out the cable. Now I had nothing to block the angry shouting coming from the next room.

With nothing better to do I moved over to the chair that was against the wall so I could hear a little bit better. Dad was giving the keep it in your pants lecture. Dean was trying to play it off like it was no big deal. Dad brought up the last dressing room incident and Dean countered with he was only thirteen back then and now he was sixteen practically a grown man and its not like he disobeyed him or anything. Dad apologized for not being more specific when he told us to behave when we went into the church, added that from now on he'd make sure to specifically say don't do nothing with anyone in the dressing room or closets from now on. Dean chuckled at that and told dad he thought he was going over board. Dad told the kid that he better stow his attitude or he'd be lucky if he was able to sit down in a week. Dean laughed then and asked if dad was really planning on spanking him, tried the whole I'm to old thing, the I'm gonna be seventeen in a little over a month; I rolled my eyes at that, that never worked with dad. I was right, I heard dad say that’s sad Dean, that your almost seventeen and you still haven't learned how to keep your ass out of trouble. I shouldn't have to repeat lessons Dean. You knew better than to be in that damn dressing room with that girl.

Then I heard it the worst noise you could possible hear when you know your in trouble. The clink of dad's belt as it was being undone. Shit, Shit, Shit I knew dad was plenty mad but I didn't think that dad was belt mad and I could tell by the fancy talking Dean was trying to do that he hadn't realized that dad was that mad either.

Dad told Dean to stand up, then gave the order to drop his pants and boxers. Just hearing those words made my butt clench. Fuck bare ass with a belt was like the worst punishment I can think of. It's only happened to me once and I hated it and never ever EVER want to feel that punishment again. I sure as heck didn't want to hear Dean getting it.

I heard dad order him to bed over the bed as I moved myself away from the wall. I still heard the first crack and then the second and then I heard Dean start apologizing. There were three more cracks after that and Dean was bawling like a baby. I waited for the next crack of leather on ass but none came. I moved back to my spot at the wall and tried to hear what was going on.

I heard dad tell Dean to stand up. I heard Dean sniffle and knew he was doing as told. Then I heard the bed springs creek, and I knew dad was now sitting on the bed. I heard Dean groan and knew that dad had pulled him over his lap. Knew for sure as soon as I heard the slap of dads hand on Deans bare ass.

Dad didn't hold back, smack after smack rang out and echoed through our tiny apartment. The smacks didn't last long and then I heard dad softly talking to Dean and knew it was over. I ran back to the couch and waited for dad to come back out.

Dad came out and asked me if I wanted to go with him to check on the dryers to give Dean a few minutes to himself. I agreed and we went down to the laundry room. I didn't say anything as we were walking, wasn't even really paying attention until dad slapped me gently upside the head and asked me what I was thinking.

I didn't really know how to tell dad that I was worried about Dean. Then he reached up and threw me over his shoulders and slapped me on the ass. Hard. Dad laughed “Sammy boy, you don't have to worry about your brother, he's fine, his ass probably hurts something fierce but he'll be fine. Maybe next time he'll use his head instead of his dick and that'll keep his ass out of trouble.” Dad laughed and I laughed too.
