Aight, just got back from PA n continuing work....
Thanks to everyone who came out to SSF n dug my new WIP Gato Make Some Biscuits (along with all the other great toons that screened). I appreciated the reception n am glad it entertained, even in its unfinished state. I took note of which parts really popped with the audience for future works n changes. Seriously, I'm elated with the reactions to my lil cat toon so far.
Right now, I'm pluggin' away at 100% finishing everything that was shown. Still gotta do shading for the characters in many more shots, add/animate the backgrounds on some shots, and more importantly... still gotta add the cat's whiskers. Then, once all animation is squared away, I'll move on to sound design n voices. I might see if I can get a hold of the artist that made the lovely song I used as a placeholder. It synced up so well with the unfolding action, it felt like it was composed specifically for it.
So what showed was meant to be the first 1/3 of the full toon. I still have another (possibly) 6mins of stuff planned to get to. But what I've got so far has taken a year n change between freelance projects for others (mostly ol' MeatCanyon). After talkin to others at SSF n taking in Plympton's insight, I think I know now what I want to do: I'll finish up what was shown n release that as its own stand alone toon with a cliffhanger aluding to *the next 1/3. Then, depending on my workload and how well that's received, I'll make the next 2 parts n eventually cut em all together "full movie" style.
All n all, SSF was great. Got to see some awesome old friends again, feel the spirit of indie animation alive n stronger than ever, and I came out feeling my desire to create reinvigorated. I can't thank Lee enough for putting this all together... let alone convincing me to pry myself away from my desk to be there in person. Let's keep movin onward n upward.
