OK, The blue cart is confusing. It says you need x to leave the level, but it means you need x MORE to leave the level. Kind of confusing. Maybe add the word "More" to the amounts? Or have the amount be total.
I love the creepy atmosphere! It kept me playing for quite a while, and I'll definitely come back to finish it.
One thing though: when I'm trying to collect all the eggs in a level, once I've collected all the blue stones needed to finish the level, I can no longer light up the cave and get all the eggs. Is this intentional? Sometimes my workers collect the last blue stone before I get all the eggs and I need to retry the level. :<
You should have full control over when you leave the level, since you have to click the Minecart full of Blue Ore button in order to leave. You should technically be able to stay in a level as long as you like.
It is also possible you are missing out on the Egg Clowns! They are the clowns in the blue party hats that run away when you expand the light level. There is a specific way to catch them which you can discover through the upgrade tree (I also gave a guide on how to do it in a comment a little further down).
There's also one level (1-3) that's very wide, so when you're at max light expansion, it looks like there's still more below to expand to, but there isn't. (But if you're missing eggs, it's probably the Egg Clowns, as mentioned.)
But as far as light goes, if you got the button that lets you end the level, it means you've reached the max light expansion level, so you're definitely not missing anything.
yeah, good game. But had the "bug " too. wher ein the 7th level the löast egg clown spawns aclsoe to the bottom border. so once I illuminate him with a lamppost, he always runs offscreen away.eve tried first lighting areas elft and right and then the actual area where he is but no change.like a scripted event he always runs away. sucks cause I cant get all the upgrades because of it!
oh and the pro tip of retrying the level doesnt help sh... sicne apparently all elvels are hardcoded (at least fix per user or soemthing. so no matte rhow often I try levels , ores enemies and such will always be in the same position.same as that missing egg clown always being in that bottom border position in level 7 where he runs off each time without doubt!
cool concept, really want to see how future updates expand the game. Though curious why clown eggs and clowns for that matter even exist in this world or why blue ore is so valuable . Even if there is no lore reason other than you thought a clown mining game would be a cool concept, we have to agree on that.
A personal critique is probably just the inability to rebuild buildings during combat or how the purchase description for the lamp is kinda confusing at first as you think you are referring to clown eggs and not clowns that HAVE eggs on them.
I actually though the description referred to the clowns that spawn when you "mine" a clown egg strcutre, like that these clowns cant be repelled by the light. so that this lamp psot would be used to keep clowns away from certain places but wouldnt work against the egg mining induced monster wave.
I never realized that egg clowns are a thing until i saw the devs comment.ALwaays jsut thought that this was sjut some mastermind final boss kind of clown msoter that always keeps running away when the light extends. and that in the very last level you finally corner him and it turns into a boss fight. never realized that it's different mosnter. but msotly cause once you extend the light you are fcoused on where attakcing clowns spawn and how to deal with them, not having the time to look for who or whats fleeing...
Also a colleciton point, like the camp fire for the warriors, would be nice.for all civlians basically.Cause at some point they are so spread out.and upon ligth expansion, soemtimes clowns literally span next to 5 miners in some corner, they obviously dead till the fighters make it there in time.so beingable to tell them "yo, stop everythingstand in thiscentral position here until I give new orders" would be nice before you start the next wave.
Hey thanks for the comment! Have you encountered the clown with eggs in his back that runs away from the elevator light when you expand it? Most levels have at least one of those clowns, and there is a specific way to catch him.
You first need to unlock the Lamppost building from the upgrades tree. Then, while you’re in a level with an Egg Clown, mouse around the darkness until you hear a loud, rasping laugh (or look for a clown glimmer with a blue party hat).
You then need to place a Lamppost close to that spot, which will reveal the Egg Clown in dim light and cause it to fight you instead of run away.
Whoaaa thanks for playing and giving your thoughts!! You bring up so many good points of feedback, echoing stuff that we mulled over quite a bit in the development cycle, like whether clowns should attack during the quiet periods or not. Ultimately, we leaned more toward the "choose your own pace" design, but there are so many things we could add to keep the tension going.
Really appreciate the video, it's very valuable to us devs to see how players interact with the game!!!
The little "larva" clowns are just there to give you something else to click. Maybe in a future update, we can give them an actual purpose, like being able to swarm your buildings or chase your guys around!
funny how you can softlock yourself by harvestign everything in sight and using it all for upgrades, so you dont have enough to be the lamp upgrade but also got nothing left to harvest. therefor softlocked due to insufficient ressources :-) Cause I totally jsut did that when I should have bought the second lamp upgrade :-) cause first wave totally shocked me when I sjut wanted me place cause the area was cramped with upgrade buildings and upon upgrades those 2 mosntrosities appeared. so this time wanted to be prepared.well got too prepared, no money left to initiate the actual fight :-D
the abd thing is I couldnt even offer you any suggestion how to fix this as just giving you tons and tons of resources would allow the players to jsut max out everything early on, before even "advancing" to further area. which would be kind of pointless. You could limit the current max level that a thing can be ugpraded to based on the current advancement level. but no idea wether that is feasable tio implement nor if it is a good idea, since it basically wont allow ou tog et a bit overpwoered before walzing through the enxt wve if you get my gist. and being overpowered can sometimes be pretty funny if you dont overdo it.

Oooh thats it, the Egg Clowns are the ones I didn't get, thanks!
I had to quit the level before the minecart would arrive. The clown eggs said "Right click to harvest" but nothing happened when I clicked harvest.

Yeahhhh it's the Egg Clowns, thank you!
Amazing!
i am enjoying this

Thanks for letting us know about this. I've found the cause of the bug, so we'll do a small update that fixes this and a few other things soon.
Absolutely amazing work!
Interesting concept, but the game is not optimized enough yet. I'm able to play only at ~5 fps.
The FPS issue seems to be only while using Itch io App, on a normal browser the game runs perfectly

Other than that, it is really fun!

WOW, serious effort was put in this game! Nice!!
Amazing game!
I'm missing two clown eggs on almost every level and I have no idea why.
Hey thanks for the comment! Have you encountered the clown with eggs in his back that runs away from the elevator light when you expand it? Most levels have at least one of those clowns, and there is a specific way to catch him.
If you dont mind me asking, could you tell me how as i have been stuck on this for awhile
No problem, I’ll put it in a summary:
How to catch the Egg Clowns
You first need to unlock the Lamppost building from the upgrades tree. Then, while you’re in a level with an Egg Clown, mouse around the darkness until you hear a loud, rasping laugh (or look for a clown glimmer with a blue party hat).
You then need to place a Lamppost close to that spot, which will reveal the Egg Clown in dim light and cause it to fight you instead of run away.
Both entertaining and creepy, mis dies!
Truly, a really, clowny good time.
Sides are cut off in fullscreen.
Do you have a 16:9 aspect ratio on your screen? We've not focused on adding support for other aspect ratios yet, so that could be the issue.
I have the standard MacBook aspect ratio.
If you put a post too close to the elevator it makes it hard for people to get out.
Some excited gameplay, a hint of critique ;)

Too good to be that short! Loved it!
Thank you so much for playing!
completed the game... what exactly were the little clowns FOR/DO? apart from having trouble clicking them to make them pop that is
The little "larva" clowns are just there to give you something else to click. Maybe in a future update, we can give them an actual purpose, like being able to swarm your buildings or chase your guys around!
Loved it! Need more clown hole! This game was very fun and I was kinda disappointed that it ended you should make levels where there clown bosses.
Thanks so much for playing! Hope we get a chance to go further with the concept :))
Quick game. Interesting concept. Could definitely see how you could soft lock yourself about going further.
funny how you can softlock yourself by harvestign everything in sight and using it all for upgrades, so you dont have enough to be the lamp upgrade but also got nothing left to harvest. therefor softlocked due to insufficient ressources :-)

Thanks for highlighting that softlock issue!! We thought we had found every instance of it!

yeah it's tricky to balance!
Hilarious concept, loved it
Thanks for playing!! :))
Very good stuff! Wish there were more levels and stuff. Loved this.
Thanks so much for playing! If we get more time to work on this, trust that we'd add more levels, more clowns, more everything!
