Kudos for Comodore 64 (my original one is in box in storage with tape games) Great game brought flashbacks of Jetset willy and the rest of those game, and getting them off the dodgy guy at the market. But it also reminded me on how I suck in these kinds of games. Gameplay was challenging for me but I did try again and again, with the same result. But over all a great game with huge retro vibes.

Thanks for playing and for the nice comments. If you ever decide to unbox your C64 make sure to get a new PSU. And if you want to have more c64 nostalgia in a modern package, give some of my other C64 games a go:

Very solid entry! The gameplay was difficult, but not frustrating :D

Bonus points for this being a Comodore 64 Game!

Only critique i have would be that I can connect LEDs without making them line up between + and -

Thanks for playing and commenting, and glad You liked my little C64 game! And yes, it is not really "electrically" correct. :)

Running on such old hardware and in assembly? Kudos to up! Great game!

This is very adorable and challenging, but in the way older games were always very challenging and required you to actually pay attention and figure them out. I love it! And you said you made it in assembly?! And it runs on real commodore 64 hardware? That's incredible, that always gets bonus points from me. Well done!

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the nice comments! It is a bit on the tough side and could use some more balancing, that's for sure. And yes, it is done in assembly and runs on a stock Commodore 64 or any new hardware or emulator. It's a passion.

How do you go about that if you don't mind me asking? Is there a particular program you use?

Developer(+1)

I use an IDE called CBM Prg Studio, a text editor and an assembler that builds executables for C64, plus some built in editors for graphics (though I mainly use external editors, own or 3rd party). Many use an assembler called Kick Assembler and VS Code with 6502 extensions.

Super little game! I couldn't seem to complete level 7, and level 4 was a toughie. Great concept and catchy music. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked the game, and I just played it again and passed level 7 after some struggle with that pesky darkly shutting of the lights. Thanks for playing and commenting.

Perhaps a little difficult for me. I could finish a level. Maybe I missed something. Found the game quite intersting though, something that can be build upon.

Developer

I know it got a bit too hard at times, especially the timer isn't always that balanced, but glad you found it interesting. Will make a more polished release I think. Thanks for playing and commenting!

At start - I felt that it's gonna be an awesome puzzle game. But at the end I came to conclusion that game was more like run and pray. In my opinion - everything is a random - not a good gamedesign. I don't really know if it's true - but even enemy movement looked very random without any logic. Good concept, cool style lacks testing and reviews from testers before publishing.

Developer

Thanks for playing and for your comments. When you play "Levels" version it follows a very strict pattern; the enemies always start out in the same way and follows their paths (to begin with). However, apart from the bouncing ones, the darklys will look for lit CPUs and aim for them to turn them off, where as the hunters will actually set course for the player, but admittedly there is no advanced AI.

And the game could absolutely be more polished and had been tested more to be better balanced.

I like the retro style design. Was a bit tricky with a short timer but the gameplay was coherent and easy to jump into. Great submission!

Developer

Thank you, I aimed for a simple to get into but yet challenging to "win" (well you can't really but ...). The timer is a bit tricky to get rightly balanced, especially when the levels are randomly generated.  Thanks for playing and for the feedback.

I really enjoyed playing this! Once I found out what to do, the gameplay was simple and enjoyable. The timer was the most difficult difficulty for me; it felt a bit too short, which was what killed me most of the time. Overall, this is a fun, creative game with a beautiful retro style.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and for the nice comments. I aimed for simple mechanics and (making it on real 8-bit hardware) retro style. The timer is a bit tricky to get right - especially for the random levels that can sometimes be waaay too hard but also waaay too easy.

Submitted(+1)

Great relaxed game. I especially liked your lvl design and the art. The timer ticked a bit too quickly, but that is just some further balancing of the mechanics. Congrats on it!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the comments. The timer is a bit hard to get right, especially with the random levels that can end up superhard or supereasy. Glad you like the game nevertheless.

This was really fantastic! Great visual style and animations, and super fitting audio. Mechanic was fun and simple to understand. Really enjoyed!

Developer

Glad you like it, thanks for playing and for the comments. Making a game that actually runs on 8-bit hardware is fun and also challenging so I am happy that both gfx, sfx and foremost the mechanics came through. 🙂

Wait wait what do you mean *actually* runs on 8-bit hardware 😱 ?? how on earth did you make this game hahah did you really make a proper 8-bit game for a jam??

Developer (1 edit)

Yes, it runs on a stock Commodore 64 from 1982 (although the music is made for a newer version of the music chip so it will sound a bit weird).

Made 100 % in 6502 assembler (there are already cracked versions out on the C64 scene). I have added a binary download version but not allowed to update the itch.io-page during rating period.

It took me a while to understand it, but I immediately got the hang of it, very good, it reminded me of past times, I had a good time playing it

Developer

Thanks for the comments and for playing. Glad the retro feel came through. 🙂

A charming 2D game with a simple but fun concept. The visuals fit the style well, and the gameplay has a nice relaxing feel. With a bit more polish, it could become even better.

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the nice words. It could use some polish here and there - we'll see.
