How does the game fit the theme?
The game fits the theme as each room in the cave acts a extremely distinct location that would not typically be found in a cave. Each part of the cave is a strange place and so ultimately it makes the cave one as well. This makes the platformer a mini platformer through a wild and strange place.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
The cave background and tiles from a tilemap along with the jump, dash, and death sounds all came from free asset packs or freesound.org.

super fun!!

Great job. Level design was great, I liked the timing the jump mechanic where you wait until the platform is near the top to jump higher. That said, i did find that the jump button was not always registering when it should have, but overall congrats on a great entry

Absolutely fantastic! The level design and mysterious storyline give the game a unique feel, and the pixel art perfectly complements the atmosphere. I loved how each room in the cave has a completely different character. Keep developing the jump system as I mentioned in the comments; the idea has great potential to become a major project!

Definitely challenging as like others have said, the jumping could use some polish, but the level design and art and sounds/music are all nicely done. I especially like the hair animation of the main character when jumping! Great job!

Nice game, as others said, Cayote jump, but overall nice! well done!

felt good :D i think it needs coyote time though, theres plenty of times where i would just run off platforms trying to jump but other than that it was cool!

Developer(+1)

Definitely the main issue - thought of it right after I finished the game. It is my second game though and first where I did everything but music so I was pretty happy about the rest :D. My friend got 74 too on your game btw.

I AM SO BAD AT PLATFORMING!!! Its pretty hard but you just gotta get good. I like it good stuff!

Developer

TY! I'm glad you enjoyed it and hopefully adding some nice features in the future to other games will help ease platforming a bit :)

Nice little platformer that is showing your level designer skills. I like pixel visuals in your game. The character seems to be a bit too small, because the "cave" on the other side is quite big.  Good job on the submission!

Developer(+1)

The scaling of the character is a great point. Since i designed the characters and took a background from an asset pack i didnt consider the scaling as much as much as I shouldve. Thanks though!

Cool! You can tell the inspiration is drawn from Celeste. The challenge is well balanced.
Visually game it is a bit dark. I think a bit of lighting/glow would be a nice addition.
Great job I enjoyed!

Developer

Adding lighting sounds like a great addition! Im glad you enjoyed though!

Nice Celeste vibes. The game desperatly needs coyote time and checkpoints though

Not bad! Aside from what others have said already, I highly recommend web builds for jams. Just less friction between your hard work and people giving your game a go!

Developer

Definitely a good idea to have web build! Thanks!

I get celeste vibes from this, Its fun but the thing that you should focus on is getting proper platformer controls in this, mostly QoL things like cayotee time and corner detection. Other than the controls the game is great

Developer

Thanks for the comment! Definitely need to look into the cayote  time and corner detection as its something I wish I worked a bit longe on but I am glad you enjoyed!

Interesting Celeste-like game. The level structure is well designed. The gameplay is a bit challenging, but it’s definitely doable as long as you don’t rush. Overall, great job.
Developer

Thats nice to hear, thank you! Definitely some things Id love to add but glad you enjoyed!

I feel like platforming games are so tricky and this one felt really nice. The only aspect I struggled with was sometimes when near edges it seemed like the character didn't want to jump? I like that you included a story/mystery aspect to the game. It made me interested in the characters/what we would find as we progressed. Overall great work for a two person team!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much, for my second game jam and working on almost everything by myself, it was a great experience. I would like to work on that platforming issue near edges, however, I'm glad you liked the story, I tried hard to make it interesting. I greatly enjoyed playing your game as well and wish you best of luck!

Sorry to jump in, but regarding the edge jump issue, it might be related to not having input buffering and a coyote timer implemented. Without those, the character usually has to be precisely grounded to register a jump. Adding them can allow jumps to register slightly before landing and shortly after stepping off an edge, which tends to make platforming feel much smoother and more responsive. I had similar feedback when I made my first platformer, so I thought I’d share in case it helps.

Developer

That's very helpful, thanks a lot. While I've heard about coyote time I never even considered adding it lol. Definitely lookin to add it to the next game I work on and love the advice.

Loved yours! By far the best one I've seen. Boss fight was great as well! Amazing job :D
