I adore the hand-painted art here. Good challenge level as well, once I got a handle on what the game wanted from me I was having a good time.
cool animations, but for some reason I couldnt get past the first room? really pretty art though
Beautiful looking game, art and music create a nice atmosphere. Enjoyed the music stings on jump and dash too but it was a little too hard for me to complete. I gave my feathers to a drifter (didn't realise he would take all) and got stuck in the next room since I just had one jump. Anytime I died I would need to do a puzzle to get a second feather to even begin the make the tough jumps around the thorns so I eventually gave up and got used to my life in the tower.
I think there were a few hitbox issues. As an example in that room after the drifter, the platform at the bottom is visually more left of the collider.
Ascend Again is a somewhat ethereal and cozy experience, and I think with some time in the oven to work out the kinks it could develop into something special :)
An engaging and challenging platformer, the hand-drawn-style art is charming and really well done. I also liked the feather gathering mechanic. It made me feel like I was getting more powerful as i traversed the level and also made the more perilous jumps worth going for. I would have really liked an in-game crosshair for the feather shooting however, and the dashing and jumping sound effects had some popping/clicking/distortion that was a bit distracting. Definitely solid work though!
altho I adore the animations, the controls are so horribles for me I cannot continue. And I reach the 2nd door I dont know how to proceed. You need to indicate how to proceed
Thanks for the feedback! A tutorial or some UI to teach the abilities and how interactions work is definitely something we will be putting in our next jam game.
To open the second door, you have to press "E" to throw a feather. If you throw a feather at the crank on the edge of the hatch, the door will open. You can also throw feathers at the cranks above chandeliers or cages to get them to fall down. You can also dash into cages! A short description of abilities and interactions is on the itch page since we didn't have time to get it into the game.
I really enjoyed the animations! I played through the whole thing, and died right at the end because I was confused on where to go but its fine. I feel like some of the hitboxes were a bit harsh and the skill curve was kinda weird but still good game
Nice and challenging little platformer. The animations are really nice! I would add more visual effects in the engine and fix the foot step sound. It's faster than the animation. Great work overall.
Damn that double jump animation is super clean!! Really cool mechanics, I can imagine the movement could get pretty sophisticated. When the guy told me that feathers could be thrown to glide a bit more, that was tight. Reminds me of some older flash games (like fancy pants adventures) in the best of ways.
Cool platformer, I really liked the player character design. Though I found some level to be very frustrating (the collisions of the player or the platforms were way to big so i would struggle to get on top). Also, I found this game s system of abilities very original (even though i didn t understanded it at first). Really fun game :)
