How does the game fit the theme?
We use people as a way to make a seemingly normal place strange. (Turns out to be pretty strange after all)

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Code was all manually done. Music was done and composed by us. Map was created by us too. Assets were used for the scene, including buildings and some props

Very well put together.  Late game it starts to lag pretty bad, and I had to cut it short, but you've got an interesting story and good characters.  gj

i was surprised by the size of the city and the scale of the game, congrats for such great work on only a week!!
very interesting game, i felt a little lost in some times but it was good that at least i could turn on the easy mode for some tips!!

Submitted(+1)

The story was pretty interesting. I liked how the plot unveiled itself as you progressed, with how it changes the environment. Nice game!

Developer

Thank you! It's really nice that people are getting the mechanic quite fast!

A whole city? Thats a big work here i see. I really enjoyed the mysterious vibe of this game. Exploring the town and slowly uncovering what’s wrong was very engaging. The atmosphere and music worked really well together and gave the whole experience a slightly unsettling tone. I do agree with some feedback about direction. At times I felt a little lost and wasnt sure what objective I was currently progressing. Maybe something like a small notebook system or clearer reminders after NPC conversations could help.

Developer

Thank you! It was a big work, big props to our map designer Ignacio, he is a beast!

Good game with an engaging story. The music added on to the vibe of the music greatly. The dialogues also were very well integrated with the gameplay. The girl was the most engaging for me. Would have loved a bit more of that quest.
I also really appreciate the amount of effort it must have taken to make the town. The attention to detail in the endgame level was also really good. I can see you put a lot of thought into this entry.
One issue from my side would be, as good and engaging the game was for me the camera movement was very laggy for me, might be a one on case and I hope so. It was really hard for me to play through it all.
Kudos for making it to the jam!!
Have great day.

Wow thanks for the amazing review!! In all honesty we learnt unity while making the game, so we had no idea about optimization, I think in that manner that's the worst part I think, as there is none whatsoever, I have seen in some pc's that it does lag quite a bit, should work better in the downloadable version

Submitted(+1)

Nice story and a cool twist! It’s honestly impressive to have such a complete narrative for just one week of work.

Maybe it’s just me, but I would have appreciated a bit more feedback on the objectives after talking to the different NPCs. A clearer visualization of collectible items, and better feedback on what you’re carrying, would also help. I missed a few items or picked some up without even noticing, which left me a bit confused about what to do next.

But overall, great job!

Developer

Thank you!! Yeah, I feel like making a game of such a scale didn't leave us much time for the needed polish that a "detective" game needs, I really liked a suggestion from another user about a notepad of done objectives and next clues. We will definetly polish this and get this actually released, it's our first game ever, but we are really happy with the experience

Submitted(+1)

Honestly, it’s really impressive for a first game. You can be proud of yourselves. We learned the same lesson ourselves (it’s our first game jam too): sometimes it’s better to scope smaller and have time to polish everything, rather than add lots of features and end up with something long but unclear.

That said, those features could always be added in a post-jam version if you decide to keep working on it 🙂

Nice graphics, at some point I got distracted from the plot, so I started looking for all the aliens and hoped it would give me something. But after completing the game, the game menu appeared again. It's a very enjoyable game.

Developer

Hahhaahha, it's really fun to look for them. It's just a small easter egg, which actually spoils the story, a really big hint! Thanks for the review!!

Submitted(+1)

It's nice to see some other 3d games!

Really good job in story, characters, puzzles... I liked the moment and how a so big place can be traveled across fast

I had to follow the guide to get all the aliens  but really interesting game, If I can recommend you something I'd say to try making smaller games for jams, as not everyone will do the entire playthrough but you got me hooked there!

Well done!

Developer

It makes me really happy that you were able to complete everything!!! Yeah I do believe the game itself its a bit niche in some ways, and won't be interesting to a lot, and won't be completed by a lot more, but seeing some people like it so much feels amazing! Really makes us want to make more. Thank you.

Submitted

nice environment, but the player is pretty large. I only found 3 plushies. But i really like the story.

Developer

Thanks!! Hints on the story and the easter egg for the plushies are on the game page !

I really enjoyed this game! The story was very well written and kept me curious the whole time. The mysterious atmosphere was strong, and I loved how the town slowly revealed its secrets as I progressed.

I managed to find 3 of the 5 easter eggs, which was really fun, but I couldn’t find the ones related to the girl and the executive. I’ll definitely replay it to try and discover the rest!

Also, some optimization would be great because the game was a bit laggy for me, especially the web version.

Great job — this was a really cool narrative experience 👏

Developer

Hey man, thanks for the review! We will upload a small gameplay to showcase the easter eggs and story completely, so you can check them in case you still miss something, feel free to reach me out too!

Review: Nothing Strange in Mentira Town

Score: 10/10

"Nothing Strange in Mentira Town" Its an amazing story of mystery and psychological tension. From the very first moment, the atmosphere is suffocatingly strange. The characters give off incredibly weird vibes—acting just detached enough from reality to make your skin crawl—while the music perfectly underscores the dread with melodies that feel "wrong" in the best way possible.

The game is packed with brilliant Easter eggs that actually matter to the lore, rewarding you for digging deeper. But the absolute peak is the ending: it is completely unexpected and lands with such impact that it redefines the entire experience. This is a perfect example of storytelling and atmosphere working in unison. A must-play.

Developer

Thank you for the amazing review my friend, I am really glad you liked the story, there are a lot of flaws and things to improve, but as a first game, it has been awesome and we are extremely happy with the result!

Submitted

Nice game. It’s especially cool to explore the city.
My advice for your next game — or if you improve this one — would be to work on proper proportions. For example, making the character about half the height of a house. Although I guess that could also fit the “strange places” theme, lol.
I’d also recommend using post-processing if you haven’t already, and maybe making the map smaller or reducing the number of models, because it lagged a lot in the web version. These are just recommendations for the web build.
Overall, you still did a great job — I really liked it.
You can check out my game too and leave some feedback; I’d really appreciate it

Developer

I appreciate the feedback! The proportions are done like that on purpose, I should have maybe made them more exaggerated to avoid confusion. We sadly did not have time for postprocessing as we sadly make the map a bit too big. We will check out your game now!!

I got stuck at 3 plushies. I couldn't manage to find more or talk to more people I haven't talked to before

I think some more direction to the player would be nice to have, maybe some more hints on where the items are

I also felt the scale was a bit small but hey that only makes the place even stranger 😂

I think the game has good potential

Good Job!

Developer

Hey, that's pretty weird, using easy mode, what does it say you need to do? THere is a game guide on the game page if you want to come back to it! The plushies are not the main story, just an easter egg

Submitted

Managed to find only 3 plushies. Alas...
Personally, I feel like the game doesn't direct you enough. With Easy mode turned off you mostly have to brute force your way through the story. Would be nice to have more signs or something like a notebook with the main points written down.
Another problem is the scale of city buildings. I felt like a Gulliver in the land of lilliput sometimes
Also, I think, your town hall lost its collider somewhere xD
The music was relaxing, though! Liked it

Developer

Hahhhah, yeah the colliders were a bit messy trying to work on them at the same time with the second scene. I agree that I should have left more hints, it can be really tricky to complete in hard mode. You have the guide to complete on the game page if you'd like to revisit. Thanks for the feedback!!!

Submitted

This is a good game, I liked it. The sound design and game style are awesome!

Submitted(+1)

You definitely nailed the theme. Unfortunately i was only able to find 4/5 dolls before triggering what i would think the ending state is. The final one i missed out on i assume had something to do with the runner since i was hinted that i needed someone to move to reveal where the doll was. I also got quite lost somewhere in the middle and had to turn on easy mode. I think it would be good if the NPCs repeated the important bits of info (what to do, who to look for) after you go through their dialogue once, so that players can get steered back on track if they missed out on stuff in the dialogue. The sound cues were cool. I think it would be good if they were spatial as well (ie directional audio, gets louder as you walk closer to where it came from), and they can be used as a tool to direct players on where to go as well.

Developer

What a nice review! The locations of the 5 dolls are: behind factory, in a lamplight in the runner's street, top of the wooden planks at the cabin, where the girl is after she dissapears, where the guy looking for the phone is after he leaves. The 5 dolls is just an easter egg, you need to interact with the characters and follow the story to get to the actual ending. If you ever revisit the game, let me know!

Developer

Did you find the phone for the guy in the suit? I think this is the place where most people miss it, it's in the stadium after the punk couple moves!

Submitted

Ah, i wasnt able to find the phone. I think i clicked through his dialogue too quickly (was the first NPC i talked to in the town) and i missed out on what to actually look for.

Developer

He has random lines, some of which are pretty funny, specially after you give him the phone and he goes to the alley. I think I should have mentioned in all of them that he needs the phone hahhahha. Thanks to you I added a small guide in the game's page, since it can be a bit hard to follow the story if you don't read everything really carefully and check everything. I really recommend playing it until the end, it's really short!

Submitted(+1)

Love the vibe of the game, exploring a town and try to find whats wrong was fun.

I just think giving the player a little bit more direction would be cool, but im also bad at such games so mabey its a me problem :)
I was often aimless running around. but when I made progress and some location changed after I visit them was quite fun :) Keep up the good work!

Developer

Hey! Thank you for the review!! I love that you got the vibe. Quick question, did you use easy mode? It should give a bit more direction. The idea was to make the player a bit lost at the start so they are forced to interact with people and investigate, so you feel like a detective. I think one of the issues was that with so many characters and such a big map, I did not have enough time to add enough dialogues to each NPC to better guide the player.

Submitted(+1)

Ah I totally forgot about it :D Yes that helped me to get unstucked, but like you said take away the investigation part.
Making a good detective game is really really hard because you have to balance this, the player should not find the solution to fast so he get bored or to slow so he get frustrated. Then you have different player some that are good in such games and some are bad. There is a good video about the topic from GMTK (What makes a good detective game).

Definalty a tough challenge :D

Developer

Awesome! I'll check it out, I'm sure it will help us adjust it for the future!

Nice first entry ! Would love to see what will come next 🦾

Developer

Thank you!!!

I think creating map of your size in a week is: no enough time.

Rule up for jam is: keep scope small

Bugs:

1 ... Camera glitches into walls (x-ray wall hack)

Sound:

I just love this sound -> blends in well.

Visual:

1 ... No dynamics: Characters standing on the spot & waving -> this feels (after some time) same as static non moving object.

2 ... Elements doesn't fit: PX arrows & more detailed style font.

3 ... Early scene looks very-very good, when I enter the game -> overtime game becomes empty (well that is kinda strange)

4 ... I love this E talk button

5 ... Adding animations to <chat box> (currently is instant pop-out -> now dialog feels statics)

5.1 . Try <free commercial="" google="" fonts="">: https://fonts.google.com</free>

5.2 . Try multiple different options & select which looks the best for your specified case.

PS: Why are all characters (including you) 2.5m tall?

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!!!

Developer (1 edit)

The height was to give a sense of them not fitting in inside the town. But then it does make sense that the main character should not be that tall hahahaha

Submitted(+1)

Pretty amazing for a first game. You just need more experience. Keep doing more games :)

Developer

Thank you for the kind words!! We will definetly do more
