Highly unsettling atmosphere, especially when this scene is all too familiar. The artwork is so unique, I haven't seen anything like it before. It's very tense, not knowing if your next move could be your last, but it also balances the darkness with weirdly funny moments in between the unsettling ones. I would love to see an update where the game doesn't close but I also see why you did it and it does add more tension to be honest. Even though I kept losing I was so intrigued by the world that I just kept wanting to come back and explore, although ultimately I did end up giving up after you turn on the bed with the dollar after losing again. I did want to add it was oddly cathartic to play as someone with a not so great childhood, the description on the page really hit. Loved it a lot.

Thank you for your reply! I think I'll try and get the reset function working since multiple people have asked. Hint: there are some coins on the floor after the bed vibrates :p

Game has been updated! No more auto close , restart works, minor rng added, and the ending can now be reached :)

Aw, that's great! Thanks for letting me know, I've been excited to play the update!

Wow, this reminds me a lot of Dark Seed, which you should definitely give a shot if you haven't played it. I have to try the downloadable version before giving a full critique, but this was a unique twist on the jam theme and dripping with style. Nice work!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! <3

Pretty good when putting the time to check everything out, definitely reminiscent of SCUMM games, some items were hard to spot with the bit crunch but nothing that was too distracting, though the game over crashes made it a bit hard to trial and error.

Developer

Totally agree about the crashes, thank you for powering through!

Cool idea, I love your art style, I did run into a few bugs related to event triggers though

Developer

Thank you <3 Sorry about the bugs!

Really interesting game with a really cool art style! Not sure if it has a name but I really dig the dithering-type aesthetic, and I think it works especially great for a point and click game like this. Also really inspired choice to have your “look-around” control be a TV knob. I was having some issues with the UI in the web build, with some text persisting after moving to a new object, but nothing serious enough to make the game unplayable. Overall, really solid game that tackles its heavy subject matter in a unique and effecting way!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! Those persistent UI glitches were giving me trouble, glad it didn't stop you from playing, Cheers :)

Not a fan of the game closing when you game over, I feel like the easy difficulty should also warn you about more things that can make you game over so players don't interact with them and lose.

Love the wonderfully weird art, great atmosphere!

I totally agree, I was struggling on time and I could only get the quit function working. I know there is a way to reload the scene, but I use a visual scripting plugin, so sometimes I have less options/resources.

I'm not sure if I would do the hints...The point is to make the player uneasy about what will anger the Dad, but it probably feels unfair with the game quitting each time. I'm leaving thing mostly untouched in the spirit of the Jam, but if there is interest afterwards I'll try to make an update.

Thanks so much for the feedback and for playing!!

I tried playing the game but the UI seems to break for me in the web version.

Fullscreen doesn’t work and the interface gets pushed off screen. When I highlight something, a menu appears at the top but most of it is outside the visible area, so I can’t click anything.

Because of that I wasn’t able to get into the actual gameplay, but the atmosphere and idea look interesting from what I could see. I’ll try again after the jam in case a fix comes out.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Im having internet issues so I'll have a working web build in a few days, sorry for the delay! The downloads should be working !

Developer

Game is fixed if you're still interested in playing! Thanks for your patience either way :)

There's a great amount of depth here for only having a week. Really wild story telling. It's nice to see something more serious after all of the silly stuff that's submitted (not that that's a bad thing)

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! I realized halfway through that it had some potential so I worked pretty hard on it. Glad the serious nature didn't put you off. Thanks again!

Hope you enjoy it folks! I had a to cut short some of the puzzles so there are a few loose ends...

+ EDIT: Added the Mac and Web builds, no changes to the game were made.

++Edit 2: Had to modify a canvas scaler in the Mac build to get it to load correctly.

++Edit 3: Should have a web build working in a few days! Internet is down and Im having issues testing...

+++Edit 4: FIIXXXEDDDD the WEB VERSION just needed to move a layer down -_-

++++FINAL UPDATE: Restart function is working properly. Added RNG to the starting dollar. Fixed non-working buttons!
