Message from the artist
🌙 One Summer Night
Every thirty years, on a single summer night, the God of Darkness stirs from its slumber. To keep the world safe, the faithful perform a sacred pilgrimage: the Solar Priests and their guardians travel across the land, gathering primordial energy from ancient shrines. When the god awakens, the offering is made, and peace is restored. It is said that if this ritual is not performed, the world will forever be engulfed in darkness, ending life as we know it.
But for the people, a few days before, it is a night of celebration, as it's The Festival of Nightfall. Lanterns are lit, prayers are sung, and the chosen priests are sent off as saviors who will return in glory.
This cycle has endured for centuries.
On this cycle’s eve, an outsider named Ren is mysteriously pulled into the world. Lost and confused, he is swept into the pilgrimage of Selia, one of many Solar Priests, and her loyal guardians, Kaelen and Mira looking to harvest primordial energy from temples all around the world. Against all tradition, Ren vows to protect Selia and see her safely through her fate.
Shadowing their journey is Eryndor, a brilliant and beloved high priest. To the crowds he is inspiring, larger-than-life, adored as a chosen leader. But in secret, he seeks to shatter the cycle not with sacrifice, but by claiming the power of the God of Darkness, which to him is the only way to end the cycle and protect the world forever if he's able to control that power. He hunts down other pilgrim groups, harvesting their primordial energy, and dreams of absorbing the God of Darkness itself to become the “true savior.”
When the pilgrimage nears its end, the truth of the sacrifice that is the cost to pay to finish the ritual is revealed to the group. Selia and her friends, once faithful, are shaken to their core. On the following fated night, Eryndor unleashes his ambition, fusing with the god and twisting into a monstrous demigod bent on remaking the world in his image.
In this moment of despair, love becomes the light. Ren, bound to Selia by their shared love, awakens Helios, the long-dormant God of Light, shaped by the love for Selia and the world he got to know. By embracing the primordial energy through love rather than ambition, he becomes Selia's conduit for primordial energy and a weapon capable of ending the cycle of darkness once and for all.
The final battle is fought between Light and Darkness, between Ren-Helios and the twisted Eryndor. At dawn, the cycle is broken. The God of Darkness is destroyed. Selia and her guardians live.
But on that faithful one summer night, Ren is gone, fading with the sunrise, his sacrifice ensuring that the world and his beloved will never again fear the endless night.

Postmortem:
So coming in here I had a vague idea that I really wanted to do a JRPG, and I wanted to go from Studio One into learning to actually write music in Dorico. I am a SUCKER for most of them, as well as Souls Games. So I guess I wanted to do a mix in a way. I already had the main motif in my head while in total silence in the car. This is what you mainly can hear on the title theme. What I tried to do is make that track barebones so I could later do a track that's missing here unfortunately, but I also wanted to make sure I'd use it as a leitmotiv, but trying hard no to make it TOO obvious.
After the title theme I started to work on the battle theme.
This was easy enough to start off, as what's currently at the end of the track was the first section I wrote. I did have a bit of a harder time getting into the middle sections but stumbled upon some things I liked and developed both ideas as I went. And one thing I tried to do was to make sure was that it wasn't too overly serious, feel like it could work on most environments, and also add a bit of whimsical.
The track is supposed to just loop, but with time lacking and Dorico seemingly crashing every 5 minutes as well as NotePerformer, I just ended it abruptly but you get the gist.
Now the 3rd track is where the headaches began....
I had an idea that I wanted the earlier battle theme but with choirs, organ and other epic instruments, but one try wasn't conclusive, it just didn't work for some reason. So I decided to start from scratch and I had the start of the track kind of formed. Even though I say that, there were MANY iterations that didn't look or sound like much. I wanted somethiong very regal and dramatic for the first parts of the track, it took A LOT of time to figure out where I was headed, until at some point everything started fitting more seemlessly.
At first I wanted to have multiple phases for that final showdown against Eryndor, but I had so many issues that week that it seemed like it would not be feasible, so somewhere along the line, I just started considering the track more and more like a Meydley, each section being kind of their own team and moment in battle, the hard thing was to fit them seemlessly.
There are some notable passages for me, so here's a breakdown:
Section A
The initial section is the God of Darkness awakening, plain and simple. Organ is really loud, choir is omnipresent, it has all the marks of an omen coming to pass. I wanted the very slow ending to the section as a way to really hammer what the group has in front of them. And that's also the section where Eryndor attempts to control the God of Darkness, being just a little bit early to the party.
Section B (0:31)
It feels regal and godlike, Eryndor is starting to ascend after having absorbed the God of Darkness power, but in the end ends up being the one losing himself to madness. I think it works especially with the super dissonant organ finish with the Tenor singing alone, it felt like it was Eryndor lost his soul to the God of Darkness. Of course the Organ will the main characteristic of Eryndor in his ascension, but slowly something else will take its place when he's lost to the darkness.
Section C (0:49)
This is a long drawn out couple of sections, stretching pretty much 3 sections. It's the start of the combat with Eryndor as a twisted godform. It's dramatic, you face casualties. We hear a solo Viola, which is pretty much the instrument of Eryndor's darkness.
Section C BIS(1:16)
Some more tension and building up for section D. Here the Solo violin joins which is Ren, seeing how many of the people he's loved being lost into the darkness. It's pure despair for him, until he starts finding the resolve with Selias alone.
Section D (1:41)
This section made me shiver literally when I was making it, not as much the end but the start of it was haunting me for days and I'm so happy with it. Now Ren is trying is best to defeat Eryndor but to no avail, Selias is hurt in the process as well as his companions while Eryndor lays waste to the world. We hear the choir, organ, brass, strings and winds swell up as the pressure mounts.
Section E (1:41)
Ren decides to give his all and the real fight really begins as he's able to awaken the primordial energy as the vessel for Selias, until...
Section F(2:08)
We have some parts of the battle theme here with Eryndor's low growl in the background. The choirs are here to make it feel more powerful too.
Section G (2:40)
Ren awakens Helios godform as Selias holds him, and Eryndor cowers in disgust to the blinding light.
Section H (2:52)
Now both are at the same power level starts dishing out proper damage now to Eryndor, we now hear the proper battle theme in a lower darker key and it works beautifully (for me).
Section F BIS (3:16)
Now this is extended here because it's where the end of the fight would loop pretty much.
Section G (3:50)
The end pretty much spells the end of Eryndor and the God of Darkness.
Addendum
Now there would be so much more I'd like to do, the kissing scene, the post final fight, some additional tracks, maybe I'll get to do it soon. This was insanely complex for me to do and at some point Dorico just completely refused to export the third track and had to record my audio output with OBS from Dorico and extract that audio to have the final file...
This is pretty much the third musical project I created since I started music from scratch last year for OST Jam 07. I don't know if people will like it, but it's not often that I am proud of something I've done, but here I am. This jam was incredibly exciting, I went WAY above my skill level and I'm happy as it pushed me to try new things.
I hope you guys will enjoy this as much as I enjoyed making it.
Thank you LoneRabbit for awakening such a deep passion for me <3

The third song was so insane I started getting PTSD flashbacks from when I fought Bloodborne bosses for the first time 10 years ago. You can feel the effort in this one, really awesome to listen to just like your submission from last year :)
Thank you for the comment, I keep saying that FFX and the souls series are some of my favourite games of all time (FFX first xD) but when I talk about the souls series, even if I love and have all the discography in vinyl and listen to it all the damn time, Bloodborne is my favourite OST of them all to listen to. Its too bad the vinyl is badly pressed but I also bought a very high quality version as flac and it just might be my most listened album every year, I love it to bits and I’m super happy you can hear the reference to it clearly.
Thanks again for the very nice comment and I’m so glad I was able to re-awaken that sweet bloodborne PTSD!!
Amazing work! It's really cool how you melded together so many aspects from various classics to form this awesome OST! It was super fun to listen to as a JRPG fan, it made me remember so many memories from back when I was playing the classics.
The main theme's melody reminded me of Ghibli music, it's great. I personally think adding a touch more reverb and delay so that the melody really echoes and fills up the space could do wonders for the atmosphere here, and help make an even deeper impression on listeners from the very beginning.
For the combat theme, I could clearly hear the inspiration from FF7's "Those Who Fight", which is great. I think you did an awesome job of capturing the feel of that masterpiece! The way you dove into a brighter, Zelda-esque section around 0:47, then explored a lighter texture before diving back into the heavier music was a great touch.
The boss theme threw me back to my Dark Souls days haha, awesome job! Great arrangement on the combat theme, it really captures the boss bgm vibe. I think the drums already sound great here, but maybe you could experiment with making the percussion rhythm actually a bit less hectic, but place an emphasis on fewer, but deeper and bigger hits. I've found that spaced out, huge, low drum hits can really help with creating a sense of grandeur that can be helpful with some boss themes.
Great job with this OST! Listening to this awesome adventure was so much fun, thanks for sharing!
Bodooooooo how are you?!!!
Thank you for the very very nice comment and detailed feedback it’s very precious to me.
One thing I keep repeating like a broken record though: I haven’t played FF7 ahahaha
But I’m pretty sure I’ve heard like most people the track somewhere and I guess it just lived in my head rent free for years.
I think it’s also a testament at how »simplistic and unrefined » the ideas that come to me are. I’m not a good musician or composer by any means, but I do have 2 decades of listening to video game music pretty much exclusively and I think it will be hard for me to kinda do crazy creative stuff. I’m aware this might become a problem for future jams too, as in running out of naturally occurring ideas in the car in silence like what happened for this jam (and brilliantly recorded as humming on my phone lol), and just finding out FF13 has their combat theme starting pretty much exactly like it to my biggest despair.
I’m trying to overcome the technical hurdles first, but I’m pretty sure most of the big work ahead for me is finding something that might not be unconsciously ripping other stuff existing and finding a voice for myself!
Thanks again for the great feedback, and sorry for the big wall of text xD
Hey Kev, I'm doing great, thanks! I hope you're doing well too.
I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts. Honestly, I think it's completely normal for our music to sometimes echo existing pieces. I remember while making one of my earlier compositions, I thought I'd come up with a genius melody, and even though I had no idea what I was doing, I stuck it through and made a whole piece out of it. I proudly shared it with my family, who then just commented, "Yeah, isn't that the exact melody from Totoro's Path of Wind?"
Sure, it feels a bit bad at first, but I've come to see it as kind of a good thing, since it means our ears have developed enough to be able to absorb and recreate the effect of great music we've listened to in the past.
The track you made here is genuinely impressive and I think you're already starting to develop your own voice. I’m excited to hear what you come up with next!
First song had a really nice gentle elegance to it, that I‘d really have liked to see further explored.
Second song must have been heavily been inspired by the combat music of FF7, though it feels like it is a times still a bit to melodically and harmonically uplifting to really convey the „I‘m in danger“ feeling. Maybe having song string staccato playing some chord clusters would help conveying the looming threat a bit more.
Third song started really grand and the tempo change and change of pulse were a really cool touch. Thou this might be just a limitation of samples, but I‘d really love to hear the the solo Viola a bit more breathy/shouty to convey that Dark Souls esque darc Beaty a bit more, like a soar voice. Having it play more Ponte Cello could do the trick.
Also Dorico has a new Placement function, to create a better room sound and pan the instruments more according to their placement. I think this could enhance you otherwise very cool songs and give them that bigger than life feeling to swallow the listener even more into your music.
Hey thank you so much for the great detailed response and I think I got some answers!
First song was really only supposed to be the leitmotiv I would use for the love song and the other tracks that I’m sure you heard with just slight enough modifications so that it wouldn’t feel just like copy paste.
Everyone is telling me about FF7 indeed and someone shared it here and it blew my mind because that’s the one big FF I haven’t played but I’m sure I’ve heard the music somewhere years ago and it stayed, but even funnier is my brother made me listen to the battle theme for 13 (haven’t played any but 8 9 and X, dropped at X-2 because it destroyed everything for me) and actually it’s insane that the melody starts EXACTLY LIKE FF13 it’s not even funny ahaha.
For the « I’m in danger » feeling you’re right, but to me it felt actually too intense actually when I was making it as I kinda showed the progress in the devlog channel, I felt it needed to be combat but still kinda lighthearted in a way because I KNEW I wanted to have Eryndor’s Madness more than everything else in the ost, and I wanted it to be epic and I needed to have enough gap in tension between both since in the middle of the week with every issues of internet I had, I figured that I might not be able to make the love song and I definitely wanted to work on Eryndors track for sure. But I’ll definitely try your recommendation, I look very much up to you as some others in these jams and am pretty sure you’d have made the better call!
For the third song thank you SO MUCH for the pointers!!! For the limitations of the VST I don’t think that’s it for the solo violin and viola, it’s just that they had no processing, as for Ponte Cello, I’m not yet really using the actual techniques in Dorico most of the time because I’m still a big noob but I’ll definitely check it out tomorrow and will try to learn more about that part! So super thanks for those hints!
As for the placement feature there’s a hiccup though as I used NotePerformer 4.5 with their NPPE engine for all the CSS libraries which is most of what you can hear in all tracks and unfortunately I did try to see if I could place stuff but it seems that NotePerformer disables fully the feature which was confirmed I think either on VI-Control or Reddit can’t remember now x_x
But since the new NotePerformer 5 ditches external libraries for good, I’m thinking of creating all the expression maps by hand for CSS and all the other VST I can think that I’ll need for the next jam, because that placement features looked like such a game changer!!
Anyway this is a long-winded way of saying thank you so much for all the detail, I really appreciate it you helping me out with these pointers and will take them to heart for next time. I’m taking a course on mixing as it’s also a big problem I’ve had since OST Jam 07 and hope to improve there too for next time.
love the feedback and I hope we see each other for the next jam, I’ll definitely listen to you tomorrow ❤️
Any luck on experimenting with the different articulations? I'm quite curious about how the Noteperformer engine would work. There seem to be an extention for VSL like VSL prime. But sadly the only info I can find is, that this is supposetly discontinues ☹
Yeah I’m super sad about that, technically you could map it to VSTs and it would seemlessly blend their own engine sounds whenever an articulation didn’t exist. It’s such a shame they are discontinuing it now, and to use the 4.5 version and not upgrade to the 5th because of that!
This is... I just don't know what to say. Bro made some real elden ring OST and this is his THIRD PROJECT EVER. I don't think rating's really needed there, it's just perfect. Perfectly represents the events, perfect quality, perfect composition. You're an absolute winner man
WAY TOO MUCH BRO IM ALL RED!!!!
Thank you so much it means so much to see people enjoying the tracks!! I'll be coming to yours pretty soon can't wait and thank you so much for such a kind comment, I'm really happy with the growth since OST Jam 07 and will definitely use Dorico as I found it to be the perfect app for me with this kind of orchestral music I strive to be doing. Cheers!!
I feel like next time I should stream my absolute messy process lol
oh also I messed up it’s my fourth project as I got into Alternative soundtrack jam where we need to do a track for an existing game lol
oh damn... For me tho it's my second project by now, since I didn't have time to participate in any other jam after the OST Comp Jam 7, so yeah
The passion you have for composing shines through in every section, idk how to describe it but it really feels like you had a blast coming up with those tracks (as much as one could with the time constraints and all :')). Especially for someone relatively new (from what I understand? lmk if I'm mistaken :D) to orchestral composing this soundtrack SLAPS absolutely, it's clearly deeply thought through and deliberate irt the story it's portraying and the emotions it's supposed to invoke. Incredible work, keep it up!
I was so mad I barely had internet for 2 weeks and was so bored, this jam came in at the perfect time ahahah
Yeah I really had a blast! Especially Eryndor's Madness where I went WAY over my head but by some miracle it ended up developing to something I really loved, especially at 1:40 I got shivers when I got the sound coming out ahahah, I was experimenting because it wasn't satisfying enough and playing with spreading every instrument a bit more evenly gave it so much body I was like WOW xD
Yeah I started music really and composition and learning a bit of piano on OST Jam 07, and I keep trying to push myself every time, this time it was learning Dorico for this jam and transitioning from Studio One, which surprisingly went really nicely and I don't see myself really returning into studio one unless I do it for mixing.
Thanks for the very nice and warm message it made my day!
wow.. Damb this is really good. The story , the isntrumantation , the compsition and the ambiance all give a Jrpg vibe witch fits the description you have provided. props for you for dicecting all of the tracks . Overall a REALLY GOOD SUBMITION , good job.
I'm super happy you liked it!! I'm going over everyone who commented because I'm a bit late commenting back, I'll be looking into yours soon :) Thank again for the very nice comment!
My goodness, these are some insanely well done compositions. I think you've really captured the spirit of JRPG music with this soundtrack. The third track was a stand out for sure, very epic and fitting for a final boss. I remember listening to your submission for last year's jam and dare I say you've managed to one-up yourself here. Awesome work as always and I'm excited to hear more of your music in the future!
Heeeey!!! I remember pond tales it was such a good chiptune ost!
Thank you very much for the kind words, yes between learning Dorico and trying something way more complex, I did try to upskill a bit and I'm happy with the result even though I got so many technical issues during the week, I'm happy with what came out!
Can't wait to hear yours!
Very strong, powerful sounds! I think your battle theme is a real highlight and it's neat hearing it echoed in the third song as well. If i could suggest anything, I would say that it's important to include more variety in a JRPG soundtrack. While fights and epic moments are a staple, so are the quiet, character moments, as well as the field themes. Just something to keep in mind for the future when planning the project!
hey thank for the nice comment!
I fully agree with you, if it was not for the internet issues, I still had the love song that I wanted to use the title theme for initially as a leitmotiv in.
Hopefully I can get better too at working faster next time!! Cheers :)
Yeah I figured you were pretty limited because of your unfortunate internet issues. I kept that in mind when rating so no worries there :)
Yup but I'm thinking of doing it as soon as the jam is over if I can get to it before a small project I have in mind start! I technically could list 7 tracks that I think I can make!
Great job Kev!
Man... for a second I thought you were going to play the melody to mine on the piano! Haha. That's a funny coincidence how similar our musical communication was in that way. I think we were vibing the picture.
Dude was that throat singing on track 2? That's usually my job lmao I didn't do any this jam.
That last track kicks ass. Really nicely composed.
I want to add, that you've clearly gotten better since I last listened to your work. You're doing a great job at improving. This is excellent quality man.
Hey Kale thank you for the compliment on the growth, that's all it's about for me with these jams, and next time I need your throat singing ;)
Idk how you manage to do it but these songs are all super impressive, I'm rooting for ya to make the top 20! Excellent job on this Kev!!
hey again it’s been a while!!
I managed I guess because I was bored to death since I had very limited slow internet and was bored out of my mind with nothing better to do xDDD
Thank you for the super kind words it makes me super happy to know you liked it. Track 3 was hell to get out and was very much a big step in difficulty for myself, didn’t even know if I would manage to get it out at first, had the ideas but starting to work now on Dorico from Studio was kind of a big leap of faith. But it actually I think helped me more than it was a « hindrance ».
I’ll be coming to your submission soon, I specifically remember your crunch time tracks so I’m looking forward to hearing what new!
And thanks for the encouragements and the vote of confidence, but I’ve heard so many OST out of this world I’ll be happy in the top 100 already ahahah
Nice job on tying everything together, and bringing those themes from the first two tracks back around for the finale. Every track feels good and serves it's intended purpose well. No hate here, but I have to admit - my first thoughts on the battle theme was "tell me you love Final Fantasy VII without telling me you love Final Fantasy VII" lmao.
I feel for your struggles on Eryndor's Madness, I've definitely been there (in a battle to the death with a piece of music) and I'm glad you came out on top! It turned out to be a jam-packed little ride through hell and back. Nice work on your story and soundtrack all around!
I keep having that and THE one of the big FF I haven't played ahahahah
I barely played 8, got to third CD of 9 BUT X??? X is the best game ever made for me! But you're right Final Fantasy and Dark Souls are the very big inspirations here!
Thanks for the nice comment and the kind words I really appreciate it!
lovely orchestration throughout especially on the last track!! funny enough i was playing a game while listening and the track fits perfectly well with how intense it was LOL huge fan of the choirs used! fantastic work!!!!
Coming from you, I'm printing this and putting it on the wall lol. Thanks carrot I really appreciate it, what game was it? Might as well try to put it over for a video ahahaha
This was such a fun project to listen to! I can imagine how fun it was to make as well and it definitely shows that you sunk a lot into it.
The story was a great read and the songs really brought it to life! I'd love to hear it alongside an RPG. It would fit perfectly.
For a third musical piece, this was wild. Smashing stuff :)
Thank you so much for listening and commenting! I indeed had a freaking metric ton of fun, especially with the last track where I put everything I could lol. Looking forward to listening to your submission!
Ooh I've been looking forward to getting to your entry.
Title Theme: Very well composed intro theme. Definitely setting the JRPG feel.
Battle Theme: Final Fantasy feel, love it! Ooh I really enjoyed the switch to that pretty section. Nice percussion.
Eryndor's Madness: Ooh that choir. Love the deeper choir later in too. Some more good percussion, catchy feel while still sounding. The sections fit together really well.
Brilliant composition! You're extremely good considering being relatively new.
Any good comment from you I take to heart thank you so much for the encouragement and I'm really happy yhou liked it!!!
This is already game ready amazing and impactful music here! Truly an epic for the ages! Your instrument voicings are done really well. Nice and powerful basses without taking up the entire frequency spectrum. Great job maintaining the energy throughout! this was a very inspiring experience!
WOW too many compliments ahahah
Thank you so much for the kind feedback, I'm looking forward to get to your submission!!
Very impressed that this is your third ever music project! Very exciting and high energy tracks. Nice use of bohemian violin (if I'm hearing that correctly). Really nice textures at the start of Eryndor's Madness. One minor thing: some of the reverb tails at the end seem to get a bit cut off, it's worth adding a few extra seconds to let them fade out. Good job!
Virharmonics is the love of my life xD
Thanks for the great feedback, to be honest I don't even know where that happens since I can't hear my work at that level yet but I'll research a bit if it's a case of Raum settings that needed to be changed a bit other than my "MOVE BIG KNOB" workflow!
I was basically meaning at the very end of tracks, there is still some reverb that hasn't completely died away when the track ends. If you add 3 seconds or so of silence at the very end of each track, it will allow the volume to completely fade out before the track is over. A minor thing as I say!
oooooh Dorico exports at 1 second tail by default so i definitely know what needs to be changed thank you, track 1 and 2 were like that. Couldn't export track 3 so I had to screen record with OBS and then go into Davinci Resolve to kinda manually put the start end and I can see me being way too aggressive with it! Thanks I'll definitely update the tracks after the jam.
PS: any suggestion or compliment from you is like candy to me, your submission is sublime!
Great work! I can see you dedicated a lot of time to this, and since you mentioned you haven’t been making music for very long, what you achieved here is even more remarkable. As for your work itself, I think it’s really impresive. The main theme sounds quite intimate and beautiful. In the second track, I liked the reference to "For Those Who Fight," but I also appreciated how you brought it into your own style and added your own magic to it. Overall it has a very epic sound, very well mixed and nicely orchestrated! Fantastic job!
My brother just said hey listen to this song in FF13, I was like there's no way xD
I guess I might have heard it in a video or something and it stuck with me for a while ahahaha
Thank you so much for the kind words, really happy you liked it, this was a lot of "new" with working on Dorico instead of Studio One so I learned a lot and hoping I keep learning more for the next Jam :)
Oh wow, I thought the reference had been intentional! Either way, it’s really cool. Congrats on getting started with Dorico, it’s such a comfortable software and I find it convenient to integrate with a DAW workflow. Cheers!
yeah Dorico was surprisingly way easier to get into than I first thought, and it actually was easier to compose on there than on studio one, and yeah no the reference is not intentional at all, I’ve been told about ff7 too which is funny as it’s the one big FF in from « my era » that I haven’t played. FFX is my forever game though so there was intentionality in having it sounding like an ff track kind of like the rhythm that’s in a ton of jrpgs, and the last track is definitely the Souls series blended with that FF aesthetic! Thanks again for the very nice comment!!
All right you went full Final Fantasy on this one, very nice orchestration and arrangement, georgous work on pretty much everything, the rythmic sections, the changes, the pacing you went all in, well done !
Hey fox thank you so much for the kind words, it was really exciting trying to learn new things on this jam!!
Absolutely delightful mixing work on these tracks, holy moly dude! We went for a similar idea in concept ( JRPG game ) but accomplished it in totally different ways. The instrumentation is ridiculously good, great work!
Thank you so much NOVA, you got me intrigued I can't wait to listen to yours!!
Eryndor's Madness is an epic conclusion to an epic soundtrack. Wow it's your third music project and you're killing it. You inspire me to try and improve as quickly as you have. Great soundtrack :)
Thank you so much for the kind words! Next challenge is to do something that isn't loud lol
