How does the game fit the theme?
You are preparing yourself in VR for the incoming HONEY MAID mission to recover the best graham biscuit! With the risk raking of a Tactical Espionage Action game! I think the risk come from trying to clear the 15 levels in a row, after the ninth, it starts to be quite a risky choice to go or not to go on account to losing everything.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
I made everything myself. some stuff were made in the past, but the "Tactical Bakery Espionage" is new from this jam.

How many people worked on the game?

The game seems like a pretty solid concept, however the box is kind of just overpowered. If you're in the box you just stop moving when looked at then walk around them. Overall, well made

Developer(+1)

Hello thanks for your kind comment. I did not intended that the box op and did not think much of it... I guess it's okay because it can be a tool to modulate the challenge you give yourself during a playthrough.

Solid game, the spinning butter gif is what drew me in lmao

Developer

Yeah, it's quite mesmerizing! ah ah ah ah, thanks!

Submitted(+1)

i quite like the concept and the mechanics, but i think you have to work on information you give to the player, because i think it's quite a important part of a stealth game, firstly, ithinkyou should implement some kind of indicator of the sight line / cone of a enemy and also very important : there is an issue where enemies see you when you don't see them which feels very frustrating, to fix that i think the simples approach is to make an indicator at the edge of the screen like exclamation marks in the direction of the enemy when it sees you, also it it a little bit frustrating to go waay back at the start, also from the comments i get that it'S set in a bakery, and i aquite frankly didn't get that at all, but great game otherwise with cool visuals

Developer

Yeah, The idea was to make a radar in a corner but the feature seemed pretty big when added to the sneaking mechanic so it was cut with the scope down... it's among the list of extra stuff for my post jam update!

I'm not much of an artist, so I used the same premise of metal gear solid virtual mission, being in a virtual environment, I could simply create few generic blocks, hence making an easier time for my level design.

There is a level select  in the bottom right, it not the best but it give easily access to continue your progress. always starting from scratch to clear all the levels is for the hardcore players.

ahh i see

I played it like 9-10 times and got stuck on the 4th level XD many times

but really nice and addictive game. Nice work, dev.

Developer

Thanks, Glad you enjoyed it!

Not bad mechanics for stealth action, but i'd like to see more camera angles/variation. And I just despise last level's laser segment in the start, maybe I've not understood some mechanic in game, but I cannot even imagine what i must to do (except very precise timing) to beat it. I've enjoyed!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your comment, the camera is my bad, with respect to fairness to other jammer, I'll only fix it in a post-jam updater after the voting period.
If you press Q you can hide in a box to hide from detection from everything but lasers, it helps to have all the time in the world to progress.

glad you enjoyed it nonetheless!

Your game was one of the first games i played here! You did an awesome work with the gameplay and the music and really created a sense of stress in the game! Good work mate :)

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! The alarm always jump scare me after getting getting in the flow of clearing many levels in a row.

Also thanks for noticing the mechanics, long story short, all type of surveillance works differently and was what took the most time from my jamming time :
- the security camera you see the object but not the line of sight
- the searchlight you see the line of sight and cannot detect through crawlspace
- the lasers are the only item that still trigger while the player is in the box
- and the guards patrol the levels instead of being on a fixed point and should not see through wall (I tested it a lot and in some case it's not perfect)

At the start I thought I would copy paste my code on every vision cone, while some part of my code made it true, the others made sure I was wrong on that and pulling through is what made the game and I'm quite happy to have done it!

its a pretty good game, had fun, i do wish the camera wasn't that zoomed in cuz i couldn't see what the monsters were doin properly,. ovaraal a great game 9/10 :D

Developer(+1)

Wow, thanks I'm glad you liked it! I should have put more thought on the camera, I was too much focused on the original MGS camera style that made the experience of my own game less good, Playing in full screen help a tho

Submitted(+1)

A very solid game but I definitely saw a few creases, for example it's difficult to tell what the cameras can see and some of the levels seemed straight up impossible (for example one of them had a spotlight that hovered over the entire lone path that lead to the exit) other than that this was a very cool game

Developer

The camera were intended to fit the original inspiration, I should have put more attention on that

All the levels should be possible, I went "mario maker" on them and I did not release a level that I could not clear without debug vision.

Thanks for you comment! glad you liked the game in it's prototype form! :)

Submitted(+1)

The game was entertaining, however very merciless with the restarts. I had a good time, so good job! :)

I would love it, if you wanted to give my game a try also :D

Developer

I got the mouse, in the end the cookies were all in me! aha!

While the pun is amazing, and the gameplay is quite addicting. There were a couple major issues:

I don’t really think the relation to the theme is obvious It was hard to understand what the monsters could see It wasn’t obvious we were going through a bakery

But, a lot of that was made up for in really solid level design! Good job for making this as a solo project

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the good comment and the criticism, it does help me get better!

I don't think the relation to the theme is obvious as well. When I get too close of a theme, it limit my creativity, I'm still doing my best to incorporate it but it won't stop me if I'm inspired to do something that seem fun to me.

Yeah I was looking at MGS delta, and I kinda liked MGS (ps1), but scoping that kind of hard... I justified scoping down by saying i'm only doing the virtual mission to prepare to a future infiltration in the bakery, helping me reduce time in assets creation

I never implemented a radar before, and the stealth mecanic were already much for me. You are right, a better enemy vision readability would be good for this game.

Submitted (1 edit)

Ok I'm gonna be very honest here. The thing that threw me off the most is the camera. Since it's fixed with the character on the bottom side, it's almost impossible to see if an enemy or a camera is down there looking up. And I think giving enemies a vision cone, and/or a reaction time would make the experience much better. I'm not a big fan of stealth game so my suggestions might be biased. Other than what I've said, the game is pretty solid, level design in particular.

Fun game, the new mechanics that appear little by little work well.

Maybe the camera is a bit too focused on the player, you can’t really see where the enemies are and sometimes you just have to go in blind, but in a way that’s part of the risk haha.

(A bit too punishing for me to have to restart from the very beginning when you die)

edit : j just saw the world selection menu, I didn't think it was clickable lol

Developer

Yeah the level select should have been clearer, sorry!

Doing a "1 life full clear run" is quite a challenge, but having fun is more important, no judgment to anyone that want to see all the levels!

The camera originate from my original inspiration and I tried to make the player go upward in most level. I tried for every surveillance area being observable from another spot of the level (for example, last level :the 2 last patrols can be spied upon beforehand).

Submitted(+1)

Really fun, but did not expect to get sent back all they way to the begging when I got caught.

Developer

The bottom right number are clickable to choose your level! :)

The game loop challenge is to clears all the levels in a row, but fun is more important, the last levels are pretty intricate.

Submitted(+1)

Flashback from 100%-ing MGS substance VR missions. Last level was quite challenging, but once I figured out to quick crawl on and off to bypass the lasers, I managed it. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Nice, you felt the vibe! The missions are based on the VR mission game! The game is deterministic, so if you figured it out, You could also challenge yourself a highscore over 15, kinda in the same fashion of the "european extreme" difficulty found in the MGS serie.

Submitted(+1)

I really liked the concept. Although it was a little frustrating having to restart each time, I still enjoyed it. And also I do feel like the game would have a little bit more vibe to it if it had a custom background. Everything aside, great job!

Developer(+1)

The custom background, I wrote that down and I still forgot! you are very right!
I wanted to make the game feel "european difficulty" (you are detected you are game over). none the less I added a world select option to continue the playthrough were you were last spotted, or play any level you which to discover!

thanks for your kind word!

Nice job for seven days and the game was very engaging, but the points

One: The game would be better from a top-down perspective, like Robbery Bob

Two: The sounds were a bit annoying if you played it with headphones for a long time like me

Overall, the game had good stealth.

Developer(+1)

Thanks, the perspective is, my attempts to get the vibe of metal Gear solid, but It would need more work, I admit, maybe in a post jam patch! and the sound, well it far from being my forte, I'm getting better with baby steps, I would have like to redo a snake eater song but I don't have Cynthia Harrell contact! ahaha

Submitted(+1)

I like it, it’s a nice game. At the start it’s tough having to restart everything from scratch, but at least it makes it super challenging haha. Nice work! :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks! There is a world select menu to help with the progression, I did have to roll with some design choices that made the level progression quite difficult for me to implement.

Submitted(+1)

I like the fact that you still allowed us to select different levels. But hey, in 7 days you can’t really work miracles hahaha , we also had to do some tricks here and there xD

Submitted(+1)

Really cool game! It was a bit frustrating to restart from the start each time I got caught but it was fun either way!

Developer

Thanks for playing! there is a world select menu to reduce the frustration, still, glad you had fun!
