10/10 ART!!! Bit tough tho really cool take on mana!!!

Developer

Thanks a lot!! Super happy you liked the art <3

This was a really charming game.
Although I did feel at times the design was at odds with itself as the enemies kept giving themselves shields and I had to take sanity damage to survive/get rid of the shield only for them to put up the shield again next turn. So cards/attacks that felt like they should have been stalling tactics were effectively doing "damage" to me when enemies used them, and when I used them they also did "damage" to me.
When I was writing this comment I thought maybe I had misinterpreted the shield mechanic and it only lasted for one turn (which would have been more synergistic), but I played again and I don't think that's the case.
All that being said, I did play this for longer than the average submission I've tried, and did quite enjoy my time with it.

Developer

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! Really glad you found the game charming and that you spent more time on it than most jam submissions, that means a lot <3 again really thank you

So.... I REALLLLLLYYYYYY liked this game.

  • The art is absolutely beautiful. The visual aesthetic from the story book to the enemies and in-game elements all fit really well.
  • The story-telling and narration are amazing. You becoming the new Mad Hatter is crazy cool (I don't know if that's a thing in other Alice in Wonderland lore).
  • The Cheshire cat in the corner was extremely creative.

The gameplay was so much fun so I would love to provide some feedback. I only write this because I enjoyed it so much and rated it very highly, so these are solely for possible improvements that you may already be considering.

Sanity > Health + Shield

I typically found myself more worried about Sanity meter than Health Defense stats. It seems that once you're out of sanity, there's not many options left.

I wonder if you can add a mechanic to replenish Sanity at the cost of health, defense, or nerfing yourself.

Example: (Since a cursed biscuit probably can't give you sanity)
Sips Tea : +5 Sanity. Take 10% more damage

OR you can just the current Sanity cost, lol.

Edit Heal Descriptions

Keep "Heal 2" and remove the words "Damage", which can be confusing when compared to other biscuits (Digestive Biscuit vs Macaroon

Wow, thank you so much for the amazing feedback! We’re really happy you enjoyed the art, story, and the whole Mad Hatter twist (we put 4 endings and this is the insanity ending). The Cheshire cat was kind of a last-minute idea, so it’s great to hear you liked it! And honestly, we really appreciate the suggestions, it means a lot since you enjoyed the game so much. And thanks also for the feedback on the cards! Basically, we redid their look at the very last minute to make them easier to read and understand. What you mentioned is definitely an oversight, and I’ll fix it ^^
p.s. for the sanity mecanics we had a some idea to balance, Also thanks to some of the feedback you guys gave us.
again really thank you <3

Of course! It was super fun, and easily one of the best game jam games I played. So great work! Hope you guys continue with it, or create something similar in the future.

And if you or anyone on your team gets a chance, please feel free to check out our game 🫶🏼 We'd love some honest feedback, and we're just a few reviews shy of 20.

Anyway, best of luck on the jam! And if you continue with the game in the future, let me know and I'd love to playtest more.

Pretty, charming, and relaxing. The sound reminds me of games from the 90s; that was a great time for gamers. I would also appreciate an additional aspect, like a dice roll for a chance of a buff or something similar. I don't know if that was intentional, but the cookies to the right were not fully visible (outside the picture).

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the kind words! that’s such a cool compliment. The dice roll idea actually sounds really fun, definitely something we could explore if we expand the game (you guys give us some cool ideas). And yep, the cookie visibility issue was not intentional hahaha, thanks for pointing it out, I’ll fix that after the voting. Really appreciate your feedback! again thank you <3

Artwork is amazing, very intruing the biscuits idea instead of cards, the rng component is well balanced and challenging.
Good work guys!!

Developer

thanks a lot <3

Really liked it! Cool artstyle, really clever sanity mechanic. PS I think one of the cards is mislabeled.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much <3 Yeah, we noticed, but thanks for pointing it out. I’ll fix everything after the voting is over ^^

Submitted(+1)

Let me know when you do, I'll happily play it again after the fix :)

Great game! Such a unique idea of using biscuits as cards...against actual cards lol. Loved that. Im not a card game person myself, but this had me hooked.

Developer

You know what they say, fight fire with fire, right? Or cards with cookies? hahaha We’re really happy you enjoyed it, even with the lack of balance and the fact that card games aren’t really your thing. Thanks again!

Awesome game, love the art and audio. The idea to make all the attacks biscuits was fantastic (props to whoever came up with that). Only thing i wish was a way to pass the turn to regain sanity which could add some depth

Developer

first of all super thank you <3, second UUH this is a cool idea! thank you very much <3

The art style is absolutely incredible! I love roguelike deck builders and this was great. The insanity mechanic is actually really interesting and works really well with the theme and just the game overall. Amazing game!

Developer

Thank you so much! I’m really glad you enjoyed it, and happy to hear that the insanity mechanic worked well for you we had a lot of fun designing it. Your feedback means a lot, really appreciate it, again thank you <3

Loved the visuals of the game! The concept was interesting, I liked the double edged sword of dealing damage. The UI was a tad confusing, if the life was attached to the enemy and the "next" bigger I think it would have been more intuitive. Overall I loved the concept and the game has a lot of potential!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for enjoying it :) We’ll take all your feedback to heart <3, thanks again :)

Fits fully with the theme ! The Art is impressive ! Card game are not my favourite but really GG.

Developer

Thanks a lot <3

BEAUTIFUL art. Straight forward mechanic, I afraid it's too straight forward that's player choices doesn't really matter.

Developer

"Thank you so much! The cards you choose are added to your deck. The game isn’t balanced, so to avoid making it impossible, the player has many low-cost attack cards. We preferred an easier experience over an impossible one, so at least you can see the concept of the game all the way to the final boss. Thanks again <3

Awesome art.

This is my first game jam. It would be cool if you rated and commented. :D https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-14/rate/3851809

Thank you very much <3

The deck and sanity system is something that I really like about this game. Gives you the choice between should I spend the sanity on giving me both defense and offensive attack for a higher amount of sanity, or should I just do a 10 defense and wait for the next turn for better cards. Overall great game

Developer

Thank you so much <3, I’m glad you had fun! Unfortunately, it’s not balanced, and we didn’t have time to properly balance the cards or add many cards that we decided not to include at the last minute, with special effects and all

Submitted(+1)

The game's illustrations are so wonderful. I really like it.

Developer

Thanks a lot, happy you liked it! Our artist really went all out

Submitted(+1)

Excellent art! Always love a good card game!

Not sure if it just on my browser, but the cards in hand are too far to the left of screen that I can only ever see 1 card.

Developer

Thank you so much, I’m glad you liked it (even if it’s not balanced), and yes, I noticed that small issue on big monitors. I know what the problem is and I’ll fix it after the voting :) Thanks again!

Amazing art! And great idea, great job!
