How does your game fit the theme?
In Ouroboros, you'll take the role of a snake attempting to bite the end of its tail, by doing so you are creating a loop with your own body in the level. It is also a reference to the Ouroboros snake that represents infinity.

Outstanding entry and puzzle action:

  • Art:  creative 8-bit styling
  • Programming/Game logic: love the classic looping implementation, game play functions well, minimal bugs
  • Level design: thoughtful, puzzling, good pacing with increasing complexity and introduction of new constructs
  • Bonus: a level designer! OMG, no way!!

Well done, good collab from Purplejump and team!

Nicely done! I've seen this idea a few times but this was executed really well. The increasing obstacles as the levels progressed were laid out perfectly to help the player ease into the game.

Nice game with some interesting puzzles! I did have a few issues with the background flickering sometimes and there being a transparent line between the body of the snake and the head, but I didn't put this against the game as I'm pretty sure this is an issue with my browser. I sadly can't give that high of a creativity score as I've seen a lot of Ouroboros related games but this one is still unique and a nice twist on the idea. I also loved the song, it was a bop for my entire playthrough.  Finally, the idea of a level editor is really great for replayability and I'm pretty amazed you were able to do that as well as all the content for the game in the jam time.

Terrific little puzzler! Only complaint was that there wasn't a way to adjust the volume on the music, etc.

Very cool, I managed to beat all 11 levels! Definitely a game worth hammering the bugs out of!

Very interesting mechanics, definitely stands out from "Snake game" category!

Nice little game! Snakes need to stop eating themselves tho.. haha!

I like the pixel aesthetics and it’s very well done.

Hey there fellow ouroboros puzzle game developper, don't you love to see how this sub-theme of the snake is twisted in interessting ways ?

Developer (1 edit)

Indeed, there have been quite a few unique twists despite the similar theming!

I really enjoyed the game and completed all 11 levels. An indicator of which level I was on would have been nice, as I got sucked in and lost count 😁 The level design is brilliant! I contemplated making a snake game inspired by the ouroboros, but I never considered turning it into a step-based puzzle game like this. Super creative idea and well executed. Thanks for a great game! 👏🐍

Thanks! If I remember correctly the last build we uploaded had 15 levels, but I never updated the description lol!

This was fun, I was going to complain that it was to easy but then my dumbass got stuck on the forth level for ages! After that the puzzles were really good, great design and some interest elements thrown it to really spice things up as the game went on. Although there was nothing truly mindblowing I enjoyed it nevertheless.

Edit: Oh and I had a few bugs where I suddenly couldn't move as well as the sound skipping (nothing major though!)

Developer

Thank you! Hope the bugs didn't effect the experience too much!

Love this game! You really had a similar idea to us — great approach! The level editor is a fantastic feature — I'll definitely come back and play the user-created levels! Here's some feedback: The direction of the shopping cart wasn't that easy to read in the first level that appeared. Also, it gets confusing easily when there are multiple portals that all look the same. The music and art fit together really well, giving it a great retro style.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! We hope to re-order a few of the levels after the jam in order to introduce the shopping cart a bit better, as well as improve the readability of the portals. I loved Cosmoroboros by the way!

Cool game! I liked it!

Thanks!

This was a good puzzle game! It would have been better if there was a way to differentiate the puzzle components if there a multiple copies in a level.

Developer

Thank you! That was a planned feature, but unfortunately something we didn't get to in the end. Maybe it'll come in a future update after the game jam...

great job on the level designer and making a way to share it with others in the comments!

I enjoyed the variety of puzzle blocks introduced in this one

Developer

Thank you! I'll be sure to pass on the kind words to our level designer!
