Description
Stride Zero is a (hypothetical) parkour-based gacha game set in a future where all the world's resources suddenly dried up. Nothing can grow, minerals have turned to dirt and stone, and animals stopped breeding. Coincidentally, strange, futuristic packages began to appear around the world.

One thing leads to another (read more on the main project page), and you find yourself leading a group of runners. Your quest? To solve the mystery of the packages, fix the resource shortage, and free the people from the rampant gangs who are abusing their new toys.

Genre: Lo-Fi, Electronic, Dance, Orchestral kinda?

Inspirations: Story/setting is inspired by Path to Nowhere and Mirror's Edge, and music is inspired by Stellar Blade and Blue Archive

Runtime: 5m 42s

Each track was composed in FL Studio using a lot of Kontakt libraries and Serum

- Song Descriptions -
Note: will make more sense lore-wise from reading the story overview (you can read this on the original project page)

A Short Rest:
This is a calm lo-fi song that plays when you first log in to the base to manage your runners and click around on stuff. You can't be running all the time, right? Kick back and rest your legs, you'll have time for action later.

Suspicions:
This song is versatile, and is usually used in the visual-novel-like story segments between levels. It's meant to evoke the feeling of being on the brink of a huge discovery. You're not safe though, as danger could show up at any moment to ruin your revelation. Do you hear the timer?

FIRST ENCOUNTER:
The main fight theme. While using parkour to get to your target, enemies could show up at any point. Your units can fight though, so get to it. This track is more lighthearted, as it's a general battle theme as opposed to a serious story or boss fight. Stakes are lower, but the action is high!

Message from the artist
This is my first time submitting my music to... Anywhere really! Music's been a long-time creative outlet for me and this event was super fun to participate in. Thought I'd have enough gas in the tank for one more, but unfortunately that's just not in the cards this time. Next time though!

:)

Theme

Freedom
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
Between the term "freedom," the cage-like window silhouette, the dove, and the baggy clothing everything screams "apocalyptic Mirror's Edge" to me, and that's what I tried to channel into the story and melodic theming.

Aaaallright...

A Short Rest - I think this is a great theme for some kind of rest, or something like that (the rising bass at the very beginning is chic)

Suspicions - Okay... SOUNDSIGN! Damn, I love this bitcrush rhythm part... Against the background of the overall rather light melody, I feel this albeit slightly restrained, but absolutely aggressively crazy "furious beat".

ENCOUNTER - WAH! TIME TO DANCE! YOOHOO!

Pretty Good Job! (PGJ)

P.S. Rawr!

Fun, bouncy, energetic, and super game-esque! I enjoyed all three (and think three is a great amount for just 2 days!). I'm always a sucker for lo-fi use in game settings, and this is no exception. Amazing job dude!

first encounter really caught me by surprise in a good way, i was not expecting that kinda energy after suspicions and short rest, and the chromaticism (at least i think it is) on the chords is a nice touch, very future core-esque. nicely varied compilation of tracks overall!

This whole thing feels vaguely like a commentary on how lootboxes are destroying the world, which is ironic to me considering you also described it as a gacha game lol

Love the story setting, probably my favorite submission so far in that regard. Three distinctly different tracks here, but each fits into the setting you described very well. The clock ticking in "Suspicions" is a nice touch. "FIRST ENCOUNTER" is a bop and has a really cool chord progression. Love the chaotic energy of this one! I have a feeling this is going to worm it's way into my head later on hehe

Awesome OST overall that is deceptively polished for a first submission. Keep up the good work!

Awesome soundtrack, very impressed !
All the tracks were very solid and diverse and fit very with yout storytelling (very interesting to read through).
The jazzy vibes mixed with the instrumentation makes this album very interesting to listen to and very unique too.
Also the main repeated motif in Suspicions reminded me of Play It Again from Hotel Dusk (one of my favourite games so it's always a huge plus).
Overall congrats for your awesome submission !

I really enjoyed the style and variety of these songs, probably my favorite was Suspicions!  One picky thing I would say in comparison to the guitar and piano, the percussion sounded a little more "fake". I'm actually impressed at how good the guitar sounded and wonder what you used for that XD. But maybe seek out another library for the percussion to match the quality of the other instruments you chose. I struggle finding instruments as well so I don't have any suggestions but that is the one thing that stuck out to me, especially in "A Short Rest".

Man this is some top tier stuff, like if you're not already writing for real games, you absolutely have the talent to do so. The production is so clean

Please tell me this isn't your first and last ost jam, I need more from you. I will sell my SOUL.
Every song had so much depth and was incredibly well composed, hit the genre itch I love so much. Fantastic work!

Well, this is definitely one of my favourite submissions so far.

Especially First Encounter - it sounds like from Sonic 3D Blast;  Richard Jacques in late 90s composed in similar vein, with jazzy piano with EDM. Very cool stuff.

You explore quite a few styles here, giving all of them their dues. And it's all very well mixed on top of that, every little detail is perfectly audible.

Great job!

Great work! The composition, sound design, and production are all very well done. The only critiques I have are really minor technical things, like: given the chill vibes of A Short Rest I think you could add a bit more reverb to the percussion, and First Encounter feels slightly out of place with the rest of the soundtrack given how much brighter and more forward it sounds, but those could just be personal preferences. This was a great submission!

I really like the depth of your worldbuilding - technically not necessary, but very much welcome!

The tracks here are incredibly well produced, and they all put you immediately in the right vibe.

Overall - very well done! I wish my first jam was this good haha!

Enjoyable and fun list, every track ware surprise me. I love the 3rd one that have aggressive rhythm section. It feels great to have all three pieces of work to my ear!

I like the universe you're describing and I think your music illustrates perfectly this mirror's edge inspiration. I was surprised though by the difference of tone between the second pretty serious and the third one very funky and fun. I understand the explanation from the description but still it feels like two different artistic direction a bit. I really like the OST anyway :)

This was really fun to listen to! I particularly loved the way Suspicions played with familiar and unfamiliar rhythms/sounds as the track progressed, kept me really invested. Great stuff!

This is really fantastic. Great pacing, great textural changes to keep things really interesting. Great harmonic choices. Bravo!

What a fantastic build up, very well mixed and procuded. Lots of subtle details, I like the chords you used  when I don't expected where you're going in your progression it feels refreshing and surprised in a good way. Well done :)

Each track really has it's own identity, and are all VERY cool !

A Short Rest was a very nice introduction, very chill lofi vibe

Suspicions I really loved, the ominous mood to it is neat. Love the strings tremolo, very mysterious

First Encounter is a real masterpiece for a fight theme, very epic and dynamic ! I love that your melodies are very singing, and supported by that groove it's so nice !

Production and mixing and all the tracks are well made too

This was  great journey for me, very well done !
