I want to inform you that we are running a special, closed jam, for those who had partecipated to the first edition of Wasteland Jam, with the scope to finish your game, polishing and improve it! https://itch.io/jam/wasteland-definitive-edition-01

Good concept, short but nicely done. I had some problems gameplayvise - same as the other comments, getting stuck on geometry, needing clearer signs of the sanity running out - but good job anyways!

Short and small, but very atmospheric. I like the idea of not having a visible sanity UI, although slightly clearer feedback would have helped. The final voice line absolutely cracked me up.

Communicating sanity through audio rather than a UI meter is a nice touch, though I'll echo other comments on not effectively knowing when I'm about to cross the sanity fail-threshold. This made it a little frustrating when the flashlight is such a scarce resource. That got pretty manageable after a few retries. I do appreciate the sigh letting me know I can turn off the flashlight.

I had to restart a couple times from getting stuck on the geometry, though I understand that a lot of it is godot doing godot things. Reducing the friction in the physics material on the character body might help!

*Spoiler Warning*

Radio at the end was hard to discern, made me wonder whether there was an actual person or my character had fully lost their sanity, it's nice for making the narrative tie into the sanity-management system.

Yeah, perhaps the audio combined with a visual when you almost reach the sanity-fail threshold might help.

For the collision problems, I'd definitely try out your advice!

Haha. The ending is just a meme. I didn't have enough time for a good ending or story since I started with 3 days left to the submissions.

Thank you for playing and giving an amazing feedback!

i was playing without sound and didnt understand what was going on, tried to speed run and farthest i got was to turn the radio on, died like 10 times lol. only until i read comments did i realize it was a sanity thing and there was audio feedback, tried again and still got to just the radio :) i found it really hard lol but seems interesting!

Developer

Haha! You just have to keep a balance between the sanity and torch battery thoughout the game. That's it!

Nice little microgame! I really liked how you scoped and placed everything in the game, it worked very well!

The only real issue that I had was some colliders where I would get stuck, especially at the top of the stairs I just had to restart once because of it.

Nice pacing and atmosphere!

Yeah, I faced the collision issues too while playtesting. I will fix it very soon.

Thank you!

nice game, great micro experience, I lol'd when i finally got the reply from the radio guy

I like the way the insanity increasing was communicated but it was hard to tell when it was reaching the limit. Also without any UI about how much battery was left it was hard to tell how much to use or not use the light.

Developer

Haha! Yeah, I challenged myself to communicate game variables without UI meters. It's still nowhere near perfect.

About the battery, you should see the battery levels on the torch itself. But yeah again, it might be kind of hard to tell how fast exactly the battery is draining.

Thank you for playing!

It seems like the torch doesn't have much of an effect on sanity. I got to the top of the staircase, but couldn't interact with the console. It's a really cool idea, I'd love a sanity meter or some sort of visual, it's really cool!

Developer

If you keep the torch on long enough, you should hear the sanity restore with a sigh. I tried to challenge myself to communicate sanity and battery variables without UI meters. It might still be a little rusty! 😅

Thank you for playing!
