Hell yes! It's a difficult platformer but I like games like this. Maybe the character is a bit fast and I wish I could have done micro jump for jumping the projectiles. But overall I had a lot of fun!
Amazing for a one-person entry.
I wanna dislike this game based on how frustrating some things were. But honestly, this fits right in to the retro theme, and how those games would have played. So I can’t even be mad about it.
Yeah. Good work. Loved the sound. Tried 2 levels. Got bulshitted by the boss. Ragequit. 10/10 Retro
Very cute entry that fits the theme excellently! The platforming was a bit too difficult for my taste, I think the player accelerates and decelerates more intensely than I expected when judging jumps, etc. Nevertheless I'm really impressed that you implemented plenty of content and a control bindings menu all by yourself in the 9 days! Great entry :)
The mage looks very cute but the difficulty isn't :) It's a solid platformer that I'd like to return too after the voting period is over.. I need to finish that fire level...
Very nice graphics and it has a very retro vibe to it, especially the difficulty.
A bit too brutal for me, and I tapped out pretty early on. It feels like the controls are a bit floaty and the character has too much inertia.
Good job! Love how you captured the retro style!
i had a lot of fun with this! personally not a fan of the old school mindset where you have to replay the whole level after dying to the stage boss but they were short enough where i learned how to run right through most of them. The earth stage boss' charge attack jumpscared me the first time i encountered it lol
i did manage to beat the game despite not being great at mega man-eque platformers! great job!
Thank you! I was really out of ideas for the earth boss, so I kinda just made so he deals 2 damage and made so he only had 2 attacks and walked around. Learned it from silksong XD. Thanks for playing!
I really like your art style! And that I could switch to "easy", because I needed all the health I can get =)
What about having each stage a different music? I think it would greatly improve it.
Had fun with your game!
Thanks for the feedback!
Three hitpoints and no checkpoints is pretty brutal, but nonetheless:
The amount of content here is impressive, but I think it came at the expense of refinement. The motion sickness that others have reported might be because the camera follows the player's Y position so rigidly, coupled with how quick the jump is. I've seen some games alleviate it by having the camera's Y position stick relative to the last point where the player was grounded, as long as the player stays within a certain boundary.
Nonetheless, I had fun with this! The music is nice and jaunty, and it was satisfying to beat each level given how exact you had to be.
Yeah, I ended up making almost all the stages on the last day I had, since my focus was on making sure the bosses worked properly. I should've been way more careful with the Camera movement. Thanks for playing, and for the feedback!
Right off the bat I found your page and your art style super charming. I enjoyed the difficulty too! I had to really be patient with some of my jumps and with avoiding enemies. Great job!
Thank you!
The platforming feels a bit slippery, maybe a little more friction/drag on accel would help.
Yeah, I made the game thinking more about the bosses than the platforming. I'll try to improve it after the jam ends. Thanks for playing!
Very cute graphics!
Thank you! This was the first Jam where I made all the sprites (except the explosion) so I really appreciate it.
Sure has the NES difficulty as well as the colour palette lol. Great work, it’s super impressive how much content there is to play!
Thank you!
Solid well rounded game, one of the most authentic takes on the retro aesthetic I’ve seen yet! Found the first level without double damage challenging, but found the difficulty afterward rewarding. Loved all the bosses too, though the earth one scared the living spook out of me the first time I took it on with 1 health haha
Thanks! I had plans to make the bosses scale with the order you play them in, but didn't had the time to implement it. Glad you liked it!
Hello my fellow spellcaster, great game concept to implement. I got a bit seasick too - I am not sure why. This is very unfortunate because your game is potentially a lot of fun.
Yeah, I really should've been more careful. The other comment mentioned the textures and camera movement, so maybe that's it. Thanks for trying it out, though!
very fun music! the combination of the textures and camera movement made me a bit seasick so i had to stop playing before i got very far.
I'm so sorry to hear that. I didn't even realise this could be an issue, since I had so little time to test it. Thanks for playing anyway! I really enjoyed making this and I will try to make it better next time.
it's okay! It was still pretty fun. Something about the brick texture combined with the camera y axis following the jumps was tough on my brain. I find that I'm a bit sensitive to this, so hopefully it wasn't a problem for too many others.
If you make a game like this again (and you should!), take a look at camera position smoothing in Godot. It's a built-in feature of Camera2D. It would make the motion much easier on the eyes.
