I love these types of games! Planting and harvesting are some of my favorite comfy things haha

Art and audio were super cute and polished, and overal very cozy. Getting to match the pumpkins was a bit hard tho, but still fun nonetheless

A really nice game! I played it for a while hehe <3

Really gorgeous art, and love the progressively uneasy atmosphere lol. I found the pumpkin mini game quite hard, I played through twice and could only ever get the eyes right consistently. Uncovering the plot was good fun.  As others have said the level of polish is crazy! Thanks for sharing your game!!

Great pixel art & a very nice cozy game, bang on theme, and with a good level of polish to boot! Great Job!

Really nice! Looks like there's some fun surprises in there if I keep playing as well.  (I'm struggling to get through all these games!)

very comfy, game was really polished and fleshed out ... game was pretty easy to get into; specially once you get into a groove, though i did feel like the game dragged on for too long. but for what it is, i found it quite charming and cozy 🎃

Wow this is easily one of the most polished entries. The details with audio, the little animations (the chop!!!),  the smoothness of the game itself....spectacular. The only thing I didn't love was the roulette - I would've liked something more skill based. The journal entries were an excellent detail (wish the game would've paused so I could get 0 angry customers). I loved the "lore" in the interacitons w customers too. WOW! Great work.

I absolutely love your style of pixel art- very smooth and quite a well put together Itch.io page! The music and FX were very atmospheric, and the building tension, along with attention to detail, made this a lot of fun. The only minor friction point I encountered was jumping into the gameplay loop but after about 30 seconds I figured it out lol.

Really nicely put together and a full polished experience! Definitely brings that Autumn vibe (the spooky elements were such a treat),, great work!!

Really well done! The little notes and comments/questions from the customers was a nice reason to keep playing. I did find it a little stressful, though, especially the pumpkin carving - I had a hard time getting people’s orders right.

My only real complaint is binding the Return key to the options menu. I feel like Space and Enter should’ve been the same thing. I keep interrupting my game cause I hit the Return key.

This is great feedback--thank you! One of these days I need to figure out how to make the keys in my games be rebindable

One of the most polished entries. The visuals, sfx, music, all come together well. The one thing that kind of got to me was the timer for customers. I was reading through the journal pages and I don't know if the time was still running or not, but it made me skim quickly through each page instead of actually taking the time to read through it. And I like the subtle creepy tone as you read more and more.

oh yeah, the pumpkin business

I understand why the game is so popular! It's pretty fun, though I'm ashamed to admit it took me way too long to understand how to actually select the pumpkin you wanted.

Also I didn't read that one note carefully and thought "wait is there a body in that hole over there?" and then read "body parts found: 0" in the recap lol so I'll have to give it another go later.

If I had to nitpick I'd say that the fact you're on a timer on multiple angles (pumpkins rotting and customers getting impatient) makes it feel like I'm getting rewarded for ignoring the notes, which is a shame because they're pretty good.

Anyways, great game, good job!

Developer

Ah, thanks for playing! The timers are all a bit of misdirection because you can't actually lose the game. I'd encourage you to seek out all of the notes that the crows leave behind (there's 7 of them in total—just follow the sound of their caws) and fully explore the play area after discovering each note if you want to find out what really happened the night before the game begins.

Submitted

I definitely will!

Submitted

Well, I'm glad I did! It's really well written, good job.
Oh yeah I did notice a visual glitch that sometimes happens when walking where all the pixels of the scarecrow kind of blend together weirdly?

Developer(+1)

Now you know 😉

I’m always aiming for pixel perfection and unfortunately what you saw was an artifact of Godot’s camera and the smoothing I’ve applied to it while following the player. I thought I’d gotten that resolved but in the build that shipped for the jam I noticed the vibrating pixels were back.

Submitted

Ah that sucks. I had the same thing haha, fixed a bug and then got told by someone they actually still saw it

Great game, very cohesive visuals, engaging gameplay, and I really liked all the different mechanics, the carving was the most challenging one for me but I got the hang of it eventually lol. Really enjoyed the game and definitely wanna play again, great job!

I cant believe i got kidnapped by the mud man from the hole. Could you please add dodge rolling next patch for the boss fight? Other than that great game though! 10/10!

Developer

Confirmed: dodge rolling will be included in version 1.1 scheduled to drop after the jam voting period is over. Thanks for playing!

This game played so smoothly. I really loved when the dirt man crawled out the hole and dragged me down after I messed up too many pumpkins.

Developer(+1)

Did you miss the shovel? You're supposed to pick that up so you can fight back/defend yourself when that happens.

Awesome game. The game does completely freeze my browser on the initial load for 5 secs. After that the game plays fine. Also, J to interact is new to me, I spammed E and every other button before I had to read instructions.  The audio was spot on, and I enjoyed the cutscenes. Great work.

Awesome game! Loved the visuals, I particularly want to call out the journal, I thought it looked really good! I would've loved a bit more agency on carving the pumpkins, it felt a bit too random. Other than that I had a blast!

Developer

Believe it or not, there isn't any RNG in the pumpkin minigame—it's all based on the timing of your button/input press and the carving shape that's closest to the center of the window represented by the indicator at the top.

Great visuals and theming! Audio was good and the gameplay loop was engaging, though I really do wish there was a more involved minigame than a roulette. Maybe something where you have to trace a shape? But besides that this was really good.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I thought about doing that exact style of mini game that you suggested, but it was too close in concept to a jam game I made earlier this year: https://tbleazy.itch.io/cut-it-out

I learned from that experience that those kinds of games are not easy to pull off well XD

This game was lovely-- beautiful pixel art, nice music, and gameplay that was both challenging and fun. Great submission overall!

Submitted(+1)

That's brilliant! Visuals and music/sound design are top notch! The game feels complete and holds the quality. As a player you kinda get the game loop pretty quick. But the pumpkin roulette is something dizzying. I think I got a small vertigo. Thank you for making this game, it felt inspiring!

Developer

Oh, thanks for sharing this feedback! I'm curious if you'd have any feedback for me on how I could make it less dizzying from your point of view. If the answer is "use a different kind of puzzle mechanic", then that's OK, too!

Submitted

I'm not sure how I would solve this. The only solution that comes to my mind is to make the pumpkin parts' images switching each other instead of spinning them, but I'm not sure if that would work. Maybe a compomise between these two would work, so you could see what part will be next. But predicting is not really a problem, since the parts always appear in the same order. Maybe the spinning effect is actually the right way to go, otherwise selecting the right one would be much easier. I hope this feedback is somewhat useful.
