I Went and Got My New Bike Today!

Got all my custom gear retrofitted over onto the new bike and now my old new bike looks and feels strange to ride with out it. While we were there, we found the perfect bike for cheapcarnival. I'd looked at this very bike on Trek's website and though she'd like it, but didn't think she'd like the color. You know, I was thinking Damn, too bad the butterfly paint job was on a Madone and cost $500,000. hahahaha. She'd love that thing. And I'm always looking at reds and oranges when picking colors for her. Never mind she likes muted colors too, like puce and olive. So why in the world wouldn't she like a soft olive bike? Well she DID like it and said several times that she liked it, so we got it out and had her take it for a ride with me while I tested out the positions of my handles. Thus, we came to the Village Cyclery with one bike (my old one for the removing of gear) and came back with three. Here's mine. I had cheapcarnival take pix of me, but I realize now that most people pose behind their bike. I was standing on the side I mount from though after walking it up from the car. You can of course click on any image to see the full size version. They're about 800x600.

Anyone looking for a good mid range bike to buy that they want to last forever (instead of a couple three years before they are worn out as a Wal-Mart or Kmart bike will be) I strongly recommend Trek Bikes. They make a wide variety to suit all sorts of riding habits. Not only are these bikes super solid and lightweight, well made and well designed. They are also made in the US by a US company. Yes. Trek does have some of it's frames made in the Giant factory in Taiwan, but they are mostly made in the US and the ones made at the Giant plant are made under very strict supervision by Trek. So all you "Buy American" people, I encourage you to buy Trek. If that doesn't convince you, then remember how many Tours de France Lance Armstrong has won riding bikes made by Trek, including his most recent win straight out of three years retirement when no one in the world though he could do it his first year back out. That $500,000 for the butterfly paint job? Donated to the Armstrong Foundation to fight cancer, along with proceeds from about 10 other custom painted Madone's.

And yes... As a matter of fact, I do have a dozen little braids in my hair held back with a big barrette. This is hardly anything unexpected for me. And I made that skirt too, specifically to wear over bike shorts and tights and things. Not bad for a first, but I think when I make the next one I'll make it a little shorter, and I don't really care for the pineapples. I want to make a square skirt.

In this one we can see that I almost immediately managed to get bike grease on myself. I have my bike tights on under my pink socks that evil_little_dog gave me and which I get great enjoyment out of owning, btw. I hope it will come out with a little hair spray. I wish cheapcarnival had told me to tug my shirt down before she took these pictures. It's all lumpy and slovenly looking, as if the bike grease weren't enough. *snort*

cheapcarnival's bike is a 2010 Trek Allant with front and rear racks, 21 speeds and the more upright riding position that cheapcarnival prefers. (i.e. she does not like to ride with her "ass up over her head" so that she "looks like she's taking a poo".) Her frame is a 20" frame which is a size up from my 17.5" frame. (Actually on my bike the next size is 19" but I have a different frame type, so the measurement is roughly equivalent because of the angle of the seat tube.) This is a sharp looking bike and I'm very pleased to have found a bike that we both like so much for her. We need to get baskets for it. There are some on the Trek website but they're kind of pricey. I think we can do better.

K, so I had to cut the picture down some before it was small enough to send from my phone, but I cut it too narrow for the standard 4:3 ratio. So I added a little logo to kind of um... balance it out. Also, cheapcarnival is artfully standing in front of her bike's proud logos in both pictures.

She's demanding that I take down this last one because her arm 'looks fat'. *rolls eyes* Whatever... I'm not, because she did not tell me to pull my shirt down and let me have photos where my whole torso is all lumpy and uneven looking.

So there it is.
