Momentum Like Never Before Over 480 mid-market GCCs now operate across India, employing more than 210,000 professionals and representing 27% of the country’s entire GCC ecosystem. The pace is staggering: 35% of these centers have been established in just the last two years, contributing 30% of all new GCC units in that period. Why Are Mid-Market GCCs So Impactful? Innovation at the Core: These centers are 1.3x more likely to be transformation hubs and mature 1.2x faster than larger peers. The Global Capability Center (GCC) "Identity Crisis" Why Resilience is More Than Just Scaling India’s GCC landscape is hitting a massive growth spurt, but it is facing a fundamental crisis of purpose. India hosts nearly 50% of the world’s GCCs, with roughly 1,800 centers operating in 2025. For years, the playbook was simple: cost and scale. But scale alone is no longer the differentiator. NASSCOM’s December 2025 analysis shows that 50% of these centers have already evolved into "transformation hubs" with ER&D capabilities growing 1.3x faster than overall GCC growth. We are also seeing the rise of next-generation, Nano-GCCs—lean, highly specialized units built for speed and proximity to decision-making rather than broad execution. The pattern suggests a decisive convergence. Boards expect GCCs to deliver innovation value beyond cost arbitrage, even as AI redefines which capabilities remain critical. The crisis emerges at this intersection: GCCs must evolve into centers of strategic judgment and algorithmic orchestration, even as the execution layer they were designed to scale is being absorbed by AI-driven workflows. Yet frameworks connecting capability definition to value measurement and strategic contribution remain underdeveloped. Organizations can quantify cost savings precisely, but articulating how capabilities create resilient innovation value as AI advances requires new thinking. Reflections on #IdentityShield26 I recently attended the #IdentityShield26 event organised by #miniOrange in Pune, while the sessions were incredibly insightful, what truly stayed with me was the powerful convergence of people, purpose, and the next generation of cyber defenders. The summit opened on a strong note with a call to action from a distinguished panel: ​Mr. Anirban Mukherjee (CEO, miniOrange): Who set a bold vision for identity-driven security. Hon’ble Shri Konda Vishweshwar Reddy: Who connected national digital policy with real-world innovation. ​Maj. Gen. Krishnendu Kumar Chakrabarty: Who brought a soldier’s perspective—highlighting resilience, discipline, and the mindset required to secure a digital nation. Deep Dives from Industry Leaders & Practitioners The momentum continued with sessions that were both technical and thought-provoking. Industry leaders and experts including #SubhashSinghPunjabi, #RahulTyagi, #AnantShrivastava, #VenkataSatishGuttula and #ShadabSiddiqui to name a few, explored how trust architectures and security postures must evolve in today’s threat landscape. More than 40 CXOs representing Indian subsidiaries of leading European industrial organizations recently convened for a focused CEO VDMA Round Table to examine the evolving architecture of global engineering. The quality of participation and depth of engagement reflected the seriousness of the issue under discussion. The central theme was Borderless & Distributed Engineering: Europe’s Path to Survive, Grow, and Thrive. For decades, Europe has defined global engineering standards through deep domain expertise, rigorous safety frameworks, precision manufacturing, and long-term industrial orientation. That legacy continues to anchor European competitiveness. The environment in which engineering operates, however, has shifted materially. Competitive intensity has increased. Product cycles are compressing. Capital requirements are rising. Digital technologies and artificial intelligence are reshaping development processes, validation mechanisms, and industrialization pathways. These forces expand the demand for engineering capacity, structured architecture, data integrity, regulatory discipline, and coordinated global execution. At the same time, Europe functions within structural conditions that include higher labor costs, demographic transitions, and stringent regulatory expectations. These conditions reflect deeply held commitments to safety, sustainability, workforce protection, and governance. They also require operating models capable of sustaining competitiveness within those parameters while preserving European values and control structures. Borderless and distributed engineering was examined as a structural response. This model extends Europe’s engineering system across geographies with a focus in India while maintaining strategic oversight, core architecture ownership, intellectual property control, and governance discipline within Europe. It enables responsible scaling of engineering capacity, structured use of digital platforms, and coordinated execution across regions. The workshop addressed practical questions: • How engineering responsibilities can be allocated across geographies • Governance mechanisms required to ensure quality and compliance • Risk mitigation frameworks aligned with European regulatory and quality standards The level of inquiry and participation indicated that many institutions are actively reassessing their engineering operating models. The conversation has matured into structural evaluation rather than conceptual exploration. Grateful to VDMA India for convening this timely and substantive dialogue.
