Not a PhD, but still taught at NIT: Akanksha’s unconventional path Meet Akanksha Gaur, an educator, mentor, and computer science expert who’s taught thousands how to code, solve, and succeed. -- The Unexpected Beginning -- As a child, Akanksha was drawn to computers early on, starting as early as when she was 10 years old. From Logo to Pascal to Java, she explored it all. But if you had asked her then, she would’ve said she wanted to be a fashion designer. That changed when coding gave her the kind of joy that nothing else did. So she pursued both her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Computer Science, topping her class with a silver medal and 94% score. -- The Leap into Teaching -- After her Master’s, Akanksha was expected to step into the corporate world or continue with a PhD. But life had other plans. She took a chance on teaching. And within no time, she became one of the rare professors at NIT Allahabad and NIT Jalandhar without a PhD, purely based on merit. In her very first year, students from all departments, CS to Civil, insisted she teach them. Her superpower? Making complex concepts feel easy and relatable. -- The Classroom Hero -- In the 5+ years since, Akanksha has taught late-night batches full of working professionals. She teaches DSA, Java, and Python, but more than anything, she teaches with empathy. She’s the kind of instructor whose students say: "We didn’t even realise 2.5 hours just flew by!" She’s had students listen to her recorded sessions during commutes. That’s the kind of bond she builds with every single learner. -- The Mentors Who Shaped Her -- Throughout her journey, Akanksha found guidance in three key mentors: 🧭 Ms. @Alka Singh: Her colleague from her first job, who showed her that teaching is about human connection, not just content. 🧭 Dr. Dharmender Singh Kushwaha: The Head of Department at NIT Allahabad, who pushed her to keep growing and eventually nudged her toward Scaler. 🧭 Kshitij Mishra: The Head of Instructors at Scaler, who continues to inspire her every day at work. -- Today at Scaler -- Akanksha is now a key instructor and mentor at Scaler School of Technology. At the recent 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺, 𝗔𝘀𝗵𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗶 𝗩𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗻𝗮𝘄 articulated a compelling framework for the AI ecosystem, outlining five critical layers of 𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲:  1. Application Layer  2. Model Layer  3. Chip Layer  4. Infrastructure Layer  5. Energy Layer Historically, India has excelled at the application layer, leveraging decades of leadership in the 𝗜𝗧 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆. Once again, we are seeing strong momentum, with India emerging as a major force in 𝗔𝗜-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀. This layer is already generating significant revenue for startups and remains one of the most in-demand skill domains globally. However, to achieve long-term strategic dominance in AI, it is imperative that we move deeper into the stack, particularly into the 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿. While India currently trails leaders like the United States, and with China as its primary competitor, this gap represents both a challenge and an opportunity. Given the current geopolitical landscape, nations will be compelled to build capabilities across all layers of the AI stack, rather than concentrating solely on application-level innovation. Mastery of the model layer, where foundational models are designed, trained, and optimized, will be essential for true leadership in the AI ecosystem. At IIT Bombay this weekend, one team proved that powerful AI does not have to mean reckless AI. We are extremely proud to announce that team Claudius Maximum, Oditi Rathi, Kiara Thapar and Denver Zuzarte, won Intent Intelligence Weekend, hosted at IIT Bombay by ArmorIQ in collaboration with WNCC and the AIC community. Their project stood out for one reason: architecture with discipline. They built a policy-enforced travel booking system where AI can suggest flights and hotels but cannot execute anything without passing strict backend rules. What impressed us: • A 5-stage pipeline turning “book me a flight” into a validated transaction • Live pricing APIs with real-time budget and compliance checks • A two-agent setup separating reasoning from execution The philosophy was simple: Let AI think freely. Never let it act freely. Huge congratulations to the team for raising the bar at IIT Bombay. Special thanks to Lokit Kumar Paras for judging and supporting the event.
