slang Primarily heard in US.
1. noun A knife or similar stabbing implement, especially one that is homemade or crudely fashioned. The prisoner was stabbed with a shiv made from the sharpened handle of a broken broom.
2. verb To cut or stab (someone) with such a weapon. Be careful if you mean to arrest him. Scum like him won't hesitate to shiv you with a blade hidden in the folds of their coats.
