fossil
slang
1. Someone whose views are outdated or old-fashioned. Please tell me you're not one of those fossils who expects women to get married as soon as they graduate college. I know I sound like a fossil, but I just don't get all the fanfare around electric cars. Please, I can guarantee that a fossil like Uncle Ned won't be voting for a progressive candidate.
2. One's parent. In this usage, the word is usually plural. No, I won't be at the party—the fossils won't let me go out tonight. I told the fossils not to come to the matinee—I don't need them embarrassing me at every performance. Ugh, the fossils found out about my C average in Geometry, and they grounded me.
