empty house

A venue, such as a stadium or theater, that does not have many or any spectators in attendance. It was weird seeing the band play to an empty house. Usually they're shows are always packed. I'm only here because my wife wanted to see this play. Judging by the empty house, though, it seems like she was the only one who did. Not too many people braved the snow to come to the game, so it was basically an empty house.
