This review is for the 650 Platinum power supply.

After the original bronze level EVGA power supply went out after about 4.5 years of continuous 24/7 use in a security camera server, I decide to get something a little more heavy-duty component wise and purchased this platinum level power supply. This power supply is definitely a step up from the previous bronze power supply, which provided 500 watts of continuous power. This one is not only capable of 650 watts but has a much better warranty at 10 years versus 3 for the bronze one.

This is a really good quality power supply that feels very solid. Best of all this is a modular power supply making it easier to customize as my previous power supply was not. Included are tons of different cables for most applications as well as a power supply tester. To confirm my paper clip test on my previous power supply, the tester confirmed my previous PS had gone out. The power supply was easy to put into the case and connected easily. It didn’t like some of my cables from another PS that I was using as a temporary unit until I got this one installed and I had to switch to the new ones that came with the PS, but otherwise I had no major issue with the installation. When the PS is powered up the fan is silent and works efficiently. The eco mode (enabled by a switch on the PS) seems to work fine on my camera server and I like the fact that it saves some wear and tear on the PS.

So far, no problems with the PS. I think it is a bit expensive, but as long as it lasts through its 10-year warranty, I will be satisfied with it. I will update my review with any long-term durability issues as this will be running continuously for the camera computer server.

If you are looking for an extremely efficient, well-constructed mid-output power supply, look no further.

The EVGA SuperNOVA 650 P2 is an incredibly efficient and quiet power supply for the price. Among other 80+ Platinum rated power supplies near the same output, it trades blows very well with its competitors from Seasonic and other companies.

I have this PSU mounted in a Norco 470 4U Rack server, with dual E5-2670s, 128GB of DDR3, and 8 3TB HDDs. It easily handles this hardware, and is virtually silent under load - certainly not audible over the 470's included 80mm fans.

The only complaint that I could possibly field is that the two EPS 12v connectors (8 pin CPU connectors) are on the same cable, and the distance between them is quite short. I was forced to buy an extension to reach the second CPU power connector on my GA-7PESH2 server motherboard. That being said, very few use-cases include a second CPU power connector, and fewer still include one so far away. I cannot remove a star simply due to my unique use case.

Overall, this is a fantastic choice for an 80+ Platinum PSU.

EVGA manufactures some of the best power supplies on the market. They are so confident in their P2 lineup that they offer a 10 year warranty on these power supplies. In addition, EVGA PSUs are significantly cheaper than their competitors.

The EVGA 650W P2 came well-packaged and with all the accessories I expected from a power supply. It comes with: a PSU “bag”, a cable bag, a plethora of cables, a power supply tester (paper clip test), screws, and Velcro. The cables are sleeved so the individual wires are hidden, but they don’t look anywhere as good as cables that are sleeved with paracord or teleois.

The PSU itself has a textured matte finish that I would have minded if it wasn’t installed in a NZXT H440, where the PSU is not visible. The PSU gives you the option to turn on ECO mode (it arrives with ECO mode set off). With ECO mode enabled, the power supply fan will not spin until a specific temperature (40 C) is reached.

The EVGA SuperNOVA P2 is a fantastic power supply for its price. It is never a good idea to skimp out on a power supply and risk permanently damaging other components.

Holy moly. This is almost as quiet than some dude telling a very poor joke.

This is my first EVGA product I have bought, and the name doesn't let me down. The stuff in the box was great too, little bags for everything (power supply came wtih a cover, and there was a wire bag for everything else). Eco Mode is a beast as it doesn't run the fan until it needs to consume more power. Now, I encountered some problems with this during my installation. I wanted to use an old modular cable from my old Corsair since I thought a long SATA cable would be better than using two of the EVGA cables provided. My computer wouldn't start - perhaps due to the power needed for the SATA cable? Bad cable? But then once I took it out, the power supply worked. The power supply tester was a great addition as well. How this tester works is that it basically powers the specific 2 pins in the 24 pin cable which starts up the power supply to see if it works. I checked if the EVGA was DOA, which clearly it wasn't.

So, my gripe is that do not mix and match cables. It wasn't until I had to rewire everything a couple times to figure this out.

Other than that, a solid 5/5 for this guy.

Bought this to upgrade an HP Pavillion 1298-cb purchased from Costco. Added a GTX 1060 to upgrade the integrated graphics and wanted to be sure it had adequate power.

Admittedly this is probably overkill for my needs, but I wanted a quiet power supply with a good/long warranty and this fit the bill. I have exclusively used it with ECO mode on and have had no issues. It is completely silent as far as I can tell.

It is definitely bigger than the original 300 watt power supply with the computer so it took a bit of work getting it installed. Luckily the included modular cables were flexible enough to allow a pretty sharp turn right off the power supply connections and bend down past the optical drives in the standard ATX configuration.

Shipped well packed in the manufacturer box with nice bags for the power supply and cables included. It is pricey but not out of line for the quality you are getting.

EVGA 650w P2 is based on Super Flower's Leadex Platinum platform, considered by many to be one of the best currently available. A few reasons I chose this particular PSU. (1) No to low noise. I currently have ECO mode "on" but have tested it in both modes. My conclusion is that you don't want ECO mode 'off' and the fan constantly spinning. (Why have any fan noise at all when its totally unnecessary). I assumed having the fan run constantly would provide better cooling but it just isn't necessary. The unit is so efficient that it runs cool until you're really hammering it- drawing over 450W. Gaming with an RTX 2080ti max settings, I draw 350-385w and still can't hear the fan from this unit because it hasn't turned on- the PSU doesn't need cooling yet! Your case temps really have to get to a high level before the 650W P2 fan kicks in. This puppy can easily compete with passive units. (2) HIgh efficiency- especially when using under low load. If you're not gaming or doing anything intensive but browsing the internet or emailing or just daily tasks this PSU isn't wasting energy like cheaper ones do. I draw about 50w in this scenario and this unit has approx 85% efficiency at this level. Cheap PSU's are 60-70% efficient at these low wattages. But even better it has 90-95% efficiency over its entire range! It also has great load regulation, outstanding ripple and overall temps run cool. If there is anything to nitpick over; the Mobo cable is shorter than what would be typical. I have a mATX case so I'm fine but if you have a full tower you'll probably need something longer. Since the unit is fully modular, you can customize your cables if need be. Some have complained over the stiffness of the "sleeved" type of cables that this unit comes with but I definitely prefer these over the "ribbon" style cables that bend and kink too easily. Just use a hair dryer for a bit on them to loosen up before install. Not all of the EVGA P2's are equal. IMO the 650W model is the champ of this P series. If you need a higher wattage check out their other lines or go another brand. Just do your due diligence! There are plenty of thorough technical reviews available online.

EDIT: Purchased the 750w EVGA P2 for another computer build since I was so satisfied with the 650w version. Returned it immediately because the fan curve and noise level is nothing like the 650w version. The 750w gets warm to hot at low loads (under 100w) and the fan turns on and off constantly. Noisy and annoying! Nothing like the 650w version which stays cool and no fans until over 300+ watts! At higher loads fan noise is comparable. Sticking with the much more efficient and cooler 650w version.

This price is very good, it hasn't been a long sample size but I can't hear it. And my case from 2011 is pretty close to my ear so I would be annoyed if it did make any noise.

And installation was easy. I am not very good at managing cables, but making the modular connections and using the hook and loop straps make it simple. It's easy to cleared out all of the case for air flow and relegate cables to the back. And reaching the CPU power connection is easy, plenty of length.

I did have six years with Corsair, battling with Fermi's draw for years, but XFX and EVGA have stepped up. I chose Super Flower's Leadex platform. And I don't see it but their fan grill is great.

Bought this to replace a 12 year old, failing 650W power supply.

The symptoms that gave it away were:

- Random shutdowns when launching graphically (or computationally) intensive games

- Required shutting off power switch on back of power supply to reset it

PROS:

- 80+ Platinum

- Fully modular (Mobo, CPU, 2x VGA, 3x SATA, 1 Peripheral)

- All cables are labeled at the terminals

- Includes bag for storing unused parts

- Includes self-tester (closed motherboard jumper)

CONS:

- ECO mode not designed for gaming (where you have sharp increases and decreases in power need repeatedly) -- see below!

- Included Mobo cable is a bit shorter than I would like to have seen

I had noticed a decent amount of heat coming from my computer for the last 2 years and I attributed that to the powerful graphics card installed around then. I now believe it was due to the ineffiency of my old power supply. As the poor thing aged, it just became horribly ineffective turning electricty into heat rather than power... because...

This new, 80+ Platinum supply simply runs my computer A LOT COOLER (and it's the only recently thing changed). In fact, my computer fans are blowing out cold air (instead of warm) which is cooling the whole room down.

It's a hard call, but I feel it's worth the $20 cost increase over the very comparable EVGA G3 Gold 650W (which is an outstanding power supply in it's own right -- If you can't afford this one, get the G3).

The only drawback is the Eco mode... in theory this should mean less overall power use and a quieter build. In reality, it works great until you need the extra juice. This power supply just can't make the switches fast enough all the time. So on Eco mode, you are going to get occasional shutdowns... This is a one-star deduction only because YOU DON'T NEED ECO MODE! This supply is so efficient and the fan profile so well done that it's still very quiet in regular mode. There is maybe a few decible difference. So just leave that OFF and you'll be fine.

Great PSU, I've been using it to power a GTX 1070 and a Ryzen 7, and no power issues so far (had it for almost a year).

Based on other reviews, I've turned OFF the ECO mode from day one because they're stating that this specific PSU model overheats and fails when in ECO mode.

The fans are really quiet so it doesnt bother me at all.

My only wish is for the PSU to be more compact (its 165mm VS 140mm of some other brands). Make sure you got sufficient space, because it barely fits in my fractal design meshify c.

Works as expected, super silent with great packaging/aesthetics.

Cambié a ésta fuente despúes de adaptar una AcBel de un servidor de Sun Microsystems (550W) pero parecía que ésta fuente, a pesar de ser nivel empresarial, no soportaba la carga de mi rig ~400W a pesar de tener una eficiencia de fábrica anunciada de 80%. Después de instalar ésta fuente mi rig se estabilizó y me permitió subir el rendimiento del procesador en 20% (conservador), 10% en RAM y 30% en mi GPU, la fuente cuenta con modo Eco para cuándo no se planea un uso extensivo o trabajará en operaciones intermitentes.

Efficient, quiet, and modular. Perfect for tighter cases in small spaces.
