[Drabbles] The third batch of ten!

Drabbles: Batch #3
| 3a. | Prompt: Future!fic. Kris and Katy at the park with their kids, a little girl and a baby boy. Author(s): Rating: G Notes: All three were too much for one drabble, so I just stuck to the park. Hope that's okay, prompter! Joshua giggled as Kris bounced him on his lap. He could tell he was tired, and he hoped the bouncing would keep him from getting fussy. Emily was having too much fun on the slide with Katy at the moment, and, to be honest, Kris was having too much fun watching them. "Look at Mama, Joshua!" he said, pointing at Katy as she slid down the twirly slide with their daughter. When they reached the bottom, Emily immediately insisted they go again. Katy looked over at Kris and shrugged. He smiled back at her and nodded. He didn't notice some of the other moms staring as he bounced Joshua on his lap some more. He pointed at the slide again. "There they go!" Joshua giggled and giggled. Kris hoped Emily would want to go again. |
| 3b. | Prompt: Future!fic. Kris and Katy at the park with their kids, a little girl and a baby boy. Later, Kris sings the girl to sleep. Perhaps ending with Kraty goodness in bed? Author(s): Rating: G Notes: The prompt is too much for one fic and I really wanted to write a lullaby. Putting baby Jake down for the night is difficult for Kris. Standing aside the crib, he holds Jake in one arm and watches the little hand that is tugging on his finger. It makes Kris smile, but the feelings are bittersweet. Reluctantly, he tucks the baby into the crib. Kris lingers, watching Jake slip off into sleep, and turns on the baby monitor. When he quietly leaves the room, he’s confronted by the sad and confused expression on his daughter’s face. “I don’t want you to go,” Andrea huffs before tears are shining in her eyes. Kris grimaces and lifts her into his arms. He leans slightly sideways so she can sit on his hip. Andrea screws up her face like she’s fighting off the waterworks. Kris bounces her up higher on his hip. He presses his lips to her forehead. “I know, baby,” he says quietly. “But I have to go. They need me in New York.” Andrea scowls. Tears slip down her cheeks. It cuts Kris in two. He bounces her again as he hugs her to his chest. Gently squeezing the ram-rod straight, brown hair at the back of her head, he coos to shush her. “I’ll be back before you know it,” he whispers as he locks gazes with Katy when she enters the hallway. She tries to hide it, but Kris can see the sadness in her eyes, too. “And I’ll call every night before you go to bed,” he adds. Kris closes his eyes when his daughter throws her spindly arms around his neck and squeezes. “No, you can’t go,” Andrea whines. “Mommy can’t sing. I won’t sleep.” He chuckles and feels a pang in his chest. “Yeah. Wouldn’t want to subject anyone to that,” he says. Katy responds with an eye roll that makes Kris grin. “I’ll sing to you when I call, Andie. How’s that sound?” “Will you sing to me, now?,” Andrea says in a tiny voice, against his shoulder. Kris clears his throat, which makes Andrea loosen her grip. He trades another smile with Katy before turning to walk them into Andrea’s room. “You’re my sunshine after the rain,” Kris sings softly, slowing down the melody. Andrea calms and stop sniffling into his shirt. “You’re the cure against my fear and my pain.” “’Cause I’m losing my mind,” Kris drawls out as reaches down to throw back the blankets on the bed. “When you’re not around,” he adds, in a softer, deeper tone. He pauses to lay his little girl down in the green sheets. “It’s all…” He pulls the blankets over and tucks her in. “It’s all…” Andrea still has a sleepy, sad look on her face. Kris leans over her to kiss her forehead and nose. He pulls back and cups her cheek, wiping at the track of tears with his thumb. Kris blinks wildly to hold back his overwhelming feelings of guilt and sadness. “It’s all because of you… |
| 14a. | Prompt: Kris & Katy on his tourbus Author(s): Rating: NC-17 Katy lounges on the queen-sized bed at the back of the bus. It's a ridiculous hour of the night and she's near-dozing in the darkness, but Kris has his head propped on her chest and he's babbling, berating and critiquing himself over a mistake he made on stage earlier that night. "I still can't believe it," Kris grumbles. "Kris--" Katy attempts to cut in. "We've been touring for over a month, how could I forget the words?" "Kristopher." Kris tips his head back, straining to get a look at her face in the dim light provided by a crack in the window drapes. His jaw is slack and he drops a hand onto her bare knee to give it a squeeze. "What?" Katy slowly smirks. "Just so you know, I'm not wearing any panties." She clicks her tongue. "You kind of ruined them tonight during 'I Need to Know.'" Kris's mouth upturns with a cocky grin. He immediately flips his body and buries a kiss against her breastbone. Katy flexes her toes, delighting in the sensation and warmth of his mouth. She moans softly as his calloused fingertips walk their way up the inside of her thigh. Katy has to bite down on the inside of her cheek to hold in a louder moan as Kris massages her. "Still mad about the song?," she gasps when Kris's mouth moves to her throat. He swallows Katy's whine in a kiss as he presses two wet fingers inside of her. "What song?," Kris mumbles against the side of her mouth. |
| 14b. | Prompt: Kris & Katy on his tourbus Author(s): Rating: NC-17 Notes: Only 125 words! I'm so proud of myself. She bit down on his shoulder, and it hurt, but not enough to stop him from continuing to thrust into her. If anything, it made him increase his pace and force. He felt her start to come, and knew that she was biting him to keep from screaming. Katy was always worried that the guys on the bus would hear them having sex. Kris had told her that it didn't matter; that the guys in the band knew that the two of them had sex--they were married, after all. But, it embarrassed Katy, so he humored her. Besides, he had to admit that he liked the biting. Otherwise, he would have told her that he gave all the guys earplugs weeks ago. |
| 17. | Prompt: Katy tells Kris she's pregnant Author(s): Rating: PG Kris kissed her temple, her ear, her cheek, her jaw. He was moving his way to her mouth, when Katy suddenly blocked him with her hand, jumped out of bed, and ran to the bathroom. Kris laid there, stunned and perplexed for a moment, before getting out of bed and knocking on the bathroom door. "Katy? Are you okay in there?" There was almost half a minute of silence before finally, "Mmmm, yeah, just give me a minute." When Katy opened the door, Kris was seated on the edge of the bed. "So, my kisses are making you throw up now?" Kris asked, raising an eyebrow. Katy stared down at her feet, and fidgeted with her ring. Her eyes started to well up, and she tried to hold back the tears, but once one slipped out, there was no stopping the rest from coming. Kris was on his feet and holding her in his arms before she could look up. "Katy, how long have you known? Why didn't you tell me?" She lifted her head and let him wipe the tears away. "I only took the test yesterday. I have an appointment at the doctor today to make sure. I didn't want to worry you if there was nothing to worry about." "Can I come with you?" His hand almost absentmindedly moved to her belly. Katy covered his hands with hers, and nodded. "A baby?" he said, a smile spreading across his face. "You're not upset?" He picked her up and spun her around. "A baby!" |
| 20. | Prompt: Kris and Katy argue over which breed of dog to buy. Author(s): Rating: PG Notes: An argument about a dog is never really about a dog. "No, Kris. I already told you that the book says they chew on everything." "But, they're good guard dogs. And, can't you imagine how fun it'd be to play with one at the park?" "Kris, I said, 'No.'" "Wow, somebody's stubborn," he said with a tone Katy didn't appreciate. "Well, somebody is the one who will actually be here, having to," Katy stopped herself. She had promised she wouldn't do this--wouldn't make Kris feel bad about leaving her to go on tour. And now, she had slipped up during a stupid argument over a stupid dog. "Hey," Kris said, concern in his voice. She wouldn't look at him. "Katy, sweetie, is that what this is about?" "No, I'm sorry. Never mind," Katy responded, worried she would start crying if this continued any further. "Come 'ere," Kris said, stretching his arm out to her. Katy slid over on the bed to snuggle up to him, resting her head on his chest. He stroked her back reassuringly. "You know, it's okay for you to be upset about me leaving." After almost a minute of silence, Katy finally spoke. "I'm so happy for you, Kris. So happy. And I know how excited you are about the tour, and I'm excited about it, too, and I just, I want you to love it without having to worry about me." "And I love you for that, Katy. I do. But, you're crazy if you think I can ever be gone and not worry about you." Katy looked up at him in surprise. "Really?" Kris leaned forward and kissed her. "Really," he said as he pressed his forehead to hers. "Why do you think I wanted a good guard dog?" Katy smiled at him. "We're still not getting a dog that's gonna chew up the apartment." "Darn, woman--you are stubborn!" "You love it," she said with a wink. And he did. |
| 23. | Prompt: During a writing session, Kris recalls a break-up. Author(s): Rating: G Notes: Lyrics from Wipe It Away, as interpreted HERE. The ones in italics are the past; hope no one gets (too) confused :) What he writes is what he knows. And what he knows is this: A freeway, an evening. “I’m just sayin’—,“ she told him. “I’m just sayin’ to my mind.” “So,” he prompted. “Can I still see you next time?” She looked down then; blonde strands falling and tickling her eyelid. He took a step closer and stopped midway when she brushed them off. She tucked them behind her right ear listlessly. There was a time when she let him— She scoffed. “I don’t know, Kris.” And it used to be Kristopher. “We’re supposed to be friends.” He chuckled at that. “And what? Friends are not allowed to meet over a cup of coffee?” “No,” she whispered, shaking her head. She said nothing else, biting her lip before she shrugged. There was a sigh too. “Friends don’t look at friends like that.” He let out another laugh. “Like what?” She was quick this time, staring back at him as she cried out, “Like that.” He didn’t say anything to that. “Just friends this time.” |
| 26a. | Prompt: Kris serenades Katy Author(s): Rating: PG When Kris finally detaches himself from his friends, it's nearing two in the morning. He told Katy that he would be home by ten, but he lost track of time after Cale suggested a ski-ball tournament. There was six guys and they played best-of-three for each round. Kris finished in second place and his prize was handful of rubber, super-bounce balls. It was an awesome night. But then... As he sneaks into the house, Kris discovers the place settings on the kitchen counter. He winces. Katy must have been planning some sort of surprise dinner or dessert or something. Slipping off his shoes, Kris pads down a hall toward their bedroom. He stops short when he notices that Katy is dozing on the couch. Guilt overtakes him and he lumbers over to her. She should be in bed, not waiting for idiot husband. "Mmm, what time is it?," Katy murmurs when Kris places a kiss on her forehead. "I'm not gonna say because you'll get mad." Kris brushes Katy's soft hair with his fingers as he pushes some locks out of her face. "Why would I be mad?," Katy asks. Her eyelashes flutter as she rouses. She frowns. "What time is it, Kristopher?" Kris murmurs uneasily. "It's almost two. You should be in bed." It takes a moment for the time to register with Katy, the she gives him the stern look that he always gets when he does something stupid like this. "Maybe you should be the one on the couch," Katy deadpans. She ducks away from Kris's hands as she rises. "I'll get you a pillow." Katy makes it two steps toward the bedroom before Kris is grabbing her hand. "Oh, darling!," he suddenly belts in a slightly hoarse voice. Katy is still frowning, but allows Kris to pull her back to his chest. Kris pushes away some the hair covering her ear. He hugs her tightly. "Oh, darling!," he croons while nuzzling his cheek against hers. "Please, believe me. I'll never do you no harm." |
| 26b. | Prompt: Kris serenades Katy Author(s): Rating: PG "So, you're really going?," Katy asks from the bedroom doorway. Kris pauses his hurried packing to glance back over his shoulder. "Yep." "Seriously?" Katy's doe eyes are wide and she's hiding a grin behind her hands. Kris shrugs. "You can come, too," he offers. She laughs. "Heck no! I'd probably jinx it." Kris drops the bag to the bed and gives Katy a roll of his eyes. "You wouldn't jinx it. I can make their ears bleed on my own." It's Katy's turn to roll her eyes. "Shush," she huffs. When Katy approaches him, Kris catches her in his arms for a tight squeeze. He hates goodbyes. "Are you ready for it?," Katy asks as she stares up into his eyes. 'Cause they're just going to snap their fingers and say 'SING!' There's not going to be a second chance." Kris presses a kiss on her cheek, which makes them both smile. His nerves are going to be shot to all hell by the time the guys make it to the audition. "I'll be fine," Kris whispers into her hair. Katy reels back in his arms and narrows an incisive look at him. "So, sing me something." "Right now?" Katy nods. "Now." "I can't sing, now. I'm not warmed up and Cale's waiting--" Kris nearly jumps out of his skin when she snaps, "Sing!" "What a beautiful mess this is," Kris abruptly croons. "It's like picking up trash in dresses." Katy sighs and throws her arms around his neck. "You're gonna knock 'em dead, baby." |
| 26c. | Prompt: Kris serenades Katy Author(s): Rating: PG Katy is already in tears when she hears Kris warble, "Oh, oh, oh..." She twists toward the sound of his voice. He's walking toward her, guitar in-hand, and singing. There's already goofy grin on her face, but seeing Kris for the first time in weeks makes her want to jump right off the park bench and squeeze. "She makes me crazy, makes me lose my mind. And even in our lows, I'm lovin' her all the time." Katy has to put a hand to her face to stifle her gasping. She wants to hear every word of this. She relieved that this is finally happening, and it couldn't possibly be more perfect. "Oh, and when we met," he croons to the bluesy melody. "I think she already knew. Everything in my life was meant to include her, too." Kris comes to a halt in front of her. Katy has to talk herself down from the want to pounce him. Instead, he eyes flick up to meet his gaze and they trade smiles as Kris comes to the bridge of the song. "Wanna ask her, right now, if she'll have me. Wonder what she'll say and if she'll believe." Kris slings off the guitar and sets it to the ground to rest against the bench. He sings over each of his movements. "'Cause all I'm hopin' for is a "yes", to hear her gasp the one word I need." Kris reaches into a pocket to fish something out."When I sing out to my baby." He pauses and Katy can see the happy tears in his eyes as well. "'Darlin', will you marry me?'" As soon as he finishes the song, Kris drops to the ground on one knee. He doesn't open the ring box, but keeps in enclosed in his hand as he stares up at Katy. "Katherine O'Connell," Kris says in a calm voice, "will you marry me?" |
