Quickstart: Launch your first campaign

A quickstart guide to creating, launching, and monitoring your first campaign in OpenAI Ads Manager Beta.

Updated: 6 days ago

Getting started with ChatGPT Ads is simple. In this quick start video, we walk through the three core steps to launch your first campaign in OpenAI Ads Manager Beta: creating your account, building your campaigns, and monitoring early performance signals after launch.

Step 1: Create your Ads Manager Beta account

All campaign creation and management for ChatGPT Ads takes place in OpenAI Ads Manager Beta, available at ads.openai.com. Get started by creating your Ads Manager Beta account.

To get started:

  • Sign in with an existing OpenAI account tied to your work email, or create a new account

  • Complete the onboarding and account verification flow

  • Finish account setup in Ads Manager Beta

Before campaigns can launch, make sure you:

  • Add your advertiser name and favicon (brand logo), which will appear in your ads

  • Set up your billing profile and payment method

  • Invite additional team members who need access to Ads Manager Beta

For more detail, review our Ads Manager Beta Account Setup guide.

Step 2: Create your campaigns

Once your account is set up, you can create your first campaign. Ads Manager Beta currently supports two campaign creation workflows:

  • Guided campaign creation: Build campaigns directly in Ads Manager Beta using the step-by-step creation flow

  • Bulk upload: Create and manage campaigns at scale by uploading a completed campaign schema template

All campaigns in Ads Manager Beta follow the same structure:

  • Campaign: defines your objective, budget, dates, and targeting

  • Ad Group: a collection of ads organized around a specific theme or intent area. Context hints can be added to describe relevant conversation types for that ad group

  • Ad: the creative shown in ChatGPT, including your title, copy, image, and landing page

As part of campaign setup, you will:

  • Create campaigns and choose objectives

  • Create ad groups and define context hints

  • Create ads with titles, descriptions, images, and landing pages

  • Submit campaigns for review

Step 3: Launch and monitor signals

After your campaigns are submitted and approved, monitor your campaign status in Ads Manager Beta to confirm your ads are serving.

If an ad is marked as “Not serving,” hover over the status to view the reason. Many issues can be resolved by editing and resubmitting the ad or campaign, though some ads may be rejected for policy reasons.

Once campaigns are serving, you can begin monitoring performance metrics in Ads Manager Beta, including:

  • Impressions

  • Clicks

  • Spend

  • CTR

  • Avg CPC

  • Avg CPM

  • Conversions (if conversion measurement is set up)

These metrics can be viewed in three different formats:

  • Review performance in the campaign/ad group/ad table view

  • Analyze performance trends over time with charts

  • Download CSV reports for daily or cumulative values across your selected date range

As you learn from results, you can make updates to your campaigns, ad groups, or ads:

  • Use in-line edits for quick updates

  • Use bulk edit workflows for larger changes at scale

As you gather performance data, continue testing and refining your campaigns over time. If you run into issues, review our Troubleshooting Common Issues guide and Frequently Asked Questions article for additional support.
