Oath Breaker
Oath Breaker by

Summary: At the start of seventh year, the Malfoys perform a dramatic double-cross and Draco educates Harry about what exactly dark magic is.
Rating: R
Warnings: AU 6th year

Other information: This is what's missing from Rowling's world: meaningful demarcation between "Light" and "Dark" magic. As opposed to 15 y.o. kids defeating the big bad Death Eaters (who have the Unforgivables in their arsenal) with jelly-legs jinx.
A lot of times in canon, magic is relegated to cheap parlor tricks. Other than DADA and Potions, we're never shown the practical application of magic. This story addressed that and so much more, explaining the contempt that Slytherins hold against the rest of the school.
Also, this is the only story I've read where Draco plotted (and succeeded!) to free Lucius from Azkaban.
