Team members will declare their desired provident fund contributions (up to salary ceiling or actual compensation) during onboarding.
Reducing PF Contributions
Team members select their Provident Fund election when they join GitLab. If you initially elected to cap your PF contribution, you cannot request to increase it later. If you elected 12% PF contributions, you may request to reduce to the capped amount during the April enrollment period, however please note: this will reduce both employer matching contributions and your overall CTC. Your ‘fixed compensation’ component will remain unchanged and will not be adjusted to offset the reduction.
To request a reduction, submit a formal written request via HelpLab acknowledging the impact to your CTC and employer contributions prior to April 6th to reflect the change in the next Tax year.
Voluntary Provident Fund Elections
Team members can opt to make additional voluntary provident fund contributions at the start of employment, with the ability to update their elections each April. Payroll will communicate with team members during this annual election period.
Provident fund (PF) process
- New team members will advise on their provident fund election at the employment agreement stage (12% or capped)
- Payroll will collect team members UAN (Universal Account Number) during onboarding.
- If this is the team members’ first provident fund, and they do not have a UAN, payroll can generate one, after the team member completes their Workday and Papaya onboarding tasks.
- Monthly contributions are automatically deducted from salary.
- Annual PF statements can be found on the EPFO website using your UAN and password.
- PF Withdrawals require proper documentation. For more details please refer to the EPFO portal.
Note, team members may be eligible to opt out of the Provident fund if they meet all these conditions:
