(fic) Window of Opportunity ~ Epilogue ~

“Jensen!” Jared hollered across the beach, over the whistle of the breeze and rumble of the waves, “Come here! Come here!” He was sitting on a splayed out blanket, staring wide eyed at the small battery operated radio, waving for Jensen desperately.

Jensen strode from the water, swimming trunks dripping and water beading from the tips of his hair. “What’s goi--” Jared’s hand clapped over his mouth and Jensen was dragged onto the blanket, ending up in Jared’s lap with an excited husband shushing him.

Jared stared at the radio, arms wrapped around Jensen tightly and grinning while Jensen looked between the radio and Jared. A ‘My Little Pony’ commercial ended in a ridiculously happy tune, and the news report music cued up.

"In tonight’s breaking news story, Richard Speight Jr., former Pittsburgh police sergeant, has been arrested under Internal Affairs jurisdiction. The investigation was launched after evidence was found missing pertaining the murder case of Katie Cassidy.  Previously, local police officer Jensen Ackles had been the only suspect. Boxes of copied information related to the unsolved murders were found in Speight’s basement after local police received an anonymous tip. In a recorded session earlier today, Speight confessed to the murders and to using his position to frame Ackles. When interviewed, he insisted ‘Jared loves me, but he wouldn’t do anything as long as his husband was around. I was tired of waiting and knew something had to be done.’ While authorities have dropped the murder charges against Ackles, they are clear that Ackles is still wanted for the prison escape, and life-partner Padalecki for aiding and abetting.”

Jared’s grin only got wider, but Jensen was frozen, staring, slack-jawed at the radio. Jared’s arms tightened around his husband, and he shushed Jensen again to hear the reporter, even though the quiet squeaks were coming from Jared.

“--a collection of photos of a person’s...posterior, all labeled with the former surgeon’s name. A court date is schedul---”

“No!” Jensen gasped, turning to look at Jared, eyes still wide but a hint of a smile in his face. “Richard had a shrine to your ass!”

Jared pursed his lips and tilted his head as if he was posing on a runway. “Of course he did, my ass is amazing.” He returned to his model posing, but Jensen grinned and grabbed Jared by the neck to kiss him, his damp hair framing his face. Jared shifted to pin Jensen on the blanket under him. He tangled their fingers together and kissed back, matching his grin.
