Nazareth
In the New Testament, Nazareth is depicted as the childhood home of Jesus Christ, where he resided with Mary and Joseph after their return from Egypt and the site of the Annunciation.[4] Archaeological findings, including rock-cut tombs, houses, and artifacts, confirm the presence of a small Jewish settlement in Nazareth during the early first century CE, aligning with the Gospel narratives.[5][6] Today, the city serves as a key pilgrimage destination for Christians, featuring major sites like the Basilica of the Annunciation and the Synagogue Church, while its demographic composition reflects a historical shift from a Christian majority in the mid-20th century to the current Muslim predominance.[3]
