like the rest of america i hate my job
I need a new job away from my new job.
Today was my second time hosting all by myself. I did it yesterday morning as well but for some reason today just seemed a lot harder. I had four servers on the floor. When a nine top came in I put it outside of a servers section and got one of the servers, Jaime, to pick it up. They were running her around like crazy so I kept skipping her in the rotation in order to make sure she was okay before I sat her again.
The rotation at Landry's is really screwy. You circle a table in the servers section and put a number by it. Number 1 is the first person to be sat and it goes down the line. Because I didn't want to screw Jamie out of any tables I kept moving her to Number 2 when she came up as Number 1 and I kept seeing her still running around dealing with the nine top. Finally after an hour she seemed okay so I sat her again.
As soon as I sat her, I come back to the host stand and another server, Neil, is standing there waiting for me.
Our conversation went something like this:
Neil: Did I get skipped?
Me: No. I've been skipping Jaime like twice because she's been dealing with that nine top.
Neil: How is it Lisa got sat and then Jaime got sat?
Me: ...Because I skipped her twice...
Neil: So not only did I get skipped the first time because Lisa took my table but I just got skipped a second time too.
Me: Oh did Lisa not give you that table? I'm sorry.
Neil: *storms off*
Now granted I can see why he was upset about the first table. I had sat a table in his section but Lisa had picked it up by accident. I had thought that she had given it to him because I saw him drop off salads there. The funny thing is Lisa was the one who set up the board. She should have known that wasn't her section and secondly it's not my fault if the wrong person greets a table. Pay the fuck attention to where your section is. And granded maybe he got confused by the switch in rotation but if he had looked at the seating times (which I believe people should go by rather than the amount of tables a server has because you never know when people are camping or one server just might have a higher turn over rate) he would have seen it had been AN HOUR between Jaime's tables. I know for a fact he got at least two if not three tables in that hour. The rotation did change because I had been moving Jaime to number 2 instead of number 4, and in retrospect I should have done that but I didn't think it mattered because I know how to run a freaking board.
But what really puts the icing on the fucking cake?
Neil goes and TELLS ON ME to a manager. A 35-40 year old man runs off like a ten year old boy and tells on me to the school ground counselor.
It would be one thing if I was rude or told him to fuck off but I was completely polite. When I tried to explain it to him he didn't listen to a word I said or even try to understand. He didn't approach me in an adult like or mature manner but instead came at me like a pissed off cat that had just gotten pissed on. Just because I'm the "new girl" doesn't mean you can treat me like a doormat.
It's no wonder this place has such a high turn over rate for employees.
The only good thing is when the manager to come up to me and asked to see the board he saw that Neil had three tables. When he inquired about me skipping Neil I explained I hadn't and then asked him why in God's name would I have a reason to skip him. I don't have some personal vendetta against him, I just met the damn guy. The manager kind of just shrugged and went on his merry way.
The situation still pisses me off despite the fact I didn't get in trouble. It just astounds me that a grown man would go and tell on me at the drop of a hat instead of try and talk to me about it like an adult.
I stopped by Applebees and took out an application. It's a lot closer to my house than Landry's so much less driving.
The people from my group project finally called me at 8am this morning. I stopped by the school today and picked up the equipment we need tomorrow as well as made some different powerpoint slides about the cost of restoration projects and the different variables for different types of restoration. Unfortunately we have to get EVERYTHING done in the next two days.
On top of all that I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow at 1 for a vaginal exam. My blood work came back all normal so now I have to go on to get an exam and then possibly an ultra sound.
Boyfriend left angry after he asked me about our relationship and I responded that that was the last thing on my mind at this point in time. In hindsight that was a really bad response but Jesus give me a break. I thought the girl was supposed to pick the worst moment in time to inquire about the stability of the relationship, not the guy. Ask me again in a week or two.
It's going to be a shitty next few days.
