I really didn't like it. There were plenty of good individual moments, and yet, so much just felt off about it. In general, the storyline was plain weak, and I just really got the impression that the writer was new and didn't yet have the right feel for the characters or something similar. The little flashbacks we got with characters' narration over them actually made me grimace, because it felt such an overused technique and a lot of what was said seemed pretty out of character anyway. As well as it being completely Not Right for the show. I can appreciate they were probably trying to break the usual mold, but, I don't know. Yergh.
Also, the father - Peter or Simon, I'm pretty sure his name is, but my memory is shite - was an appalling actor. I felt no empathy with him whatsoever, which is why the twist left me sort of meh and unsurprised. (Oh and couldn't they have got it right for once, sans Sam?) Also also; Roxy Music? Double meh. I did used to like Sam/Annie, but apparently not any more. And that whole part with Sam watching the whole sequence of events on the TV didn't work for me either.
Oh, and SERIOUSLY. I liked the idea of Sam going a bit nuts from a wrong dosage and such, but aside from the god-being-in-the-details idea, it seemed to have NO POINT WHATSOEVER. Which was irritating.
I don't know, perhaps I'll just have to watch it again. But I would say this is my least favourite LOM ep so far. Previously it had been the Season 1 finale - but well, at least I liked that one, even if I found it a little disappointing.
But hey, there was some yaye to be had, as I said, so, positives:
- Chris and the schoolgirls. Ahaha.
- The whole opening sequence, actually! Gloriously trippy. Camberwick Green, and 'OH SHIT!' and ooh, manhandling even before the credits rolled.
- "I've come at this from more angles than Linda Lovelace."
- GAAAYYYY. As ever.
That's really not normal, right? I can assure you I am the slobbiest slob to ever slob, and that my college folders/room/dorm/everything - it's all one hell of an unstructured, utterly hopeless mess. And yet for some reason one day I looked at the mass amount of icons I have saved from all over the place (with credit, nevar fear) and thought, HEY, THERE'S AN ENTERTAINING WASTE OF TIME THAT I COULD SPEND WORKING. Hence there tis, in all it's terrifying beauty. How is it so tidy, how? There are also sub-categories, but don't even get me started.
