Opening: Peter Fischli

Friday, May 22, 2026, 7 pm – 11 pm

The Fridericianum cordially invites you and your friends to the opening of the exhibition by Peter Fischli.

Children’s vernissage, 5.30–7 pm

Flashing light signals, mirrors, and loose power cords: Peter Fischli’s kinetic sculptures are reminiscent of urban traffic lights or stage elements. Fashioned out of simple materials and coated in layers of gray paint, they reference systems of order, perception, and transcendence yet defy any clear interpretation. Within the exhibition space, they reveal an enigmatic rhythm of light and sound.

Born in Zurich in 1952, Fischli has been shaping international contemporary art for more than four decades. In particular, he rose to fame through his long-standing collaboration with David Weiss, which ended with Weiss’s death in 2012. Today, Fischli critically explores the aesthetics of the everyday and playfully blurs the boundaries between art and life.

The Fridericianum is hosting the artist’s first institutional solo exhibition in Germany.

The show is held under the patronage of Her Excellency Livia Leu, Ambassador of Switzerland to Germany.
With the generous support of Pro Helvetia.
