Our company began in 1952 in Spearfish, SD as Brady Engineering, a partnership between two brothers. The firm included services in engineering, architecture, land surveying and planning. In 1980, Brady Engineering became a corporation and formed the Alliance of Architects and Engineers (AAE), and the main office was moved to Rapid City, SD.

AAE continued its growth and impact throughout the Black Hills of South Dakota, with projects that shaped the region. In 2006, a merger with Thurston Design Group, LLP of Rapid City, SD created an opportunity for FourFront Design, Inc, and a focus on new design opportunities.

Still a South Dakota based corporation, our clients and projects expand beyond the Black Hills to federal and commercial projects throughout the country. Our most recent merger with Dawes Engineering of Helena, MT, was completed in 2020, creating an even stronger mechanical and electrical engineering design program that complements our architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and planning design.

Our services have also expanded beyond designing and include professional level project management, as well as Building Information Modeling (BIM). Since 2006, FourFront Design Inc has been a leading Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), and in 2023, also became a Woman Owned Small Business (WOSB).
