Genelec monitors for desktop / near field listening...

I've minimised my home office; bought a new desk and the office is getting decorated on Monday & Tuesday next week; so I'd like to treat myself to a set of small monitors that will sit happily on my new desk (with proper isolation pads obviously)

Music is via my MBA / Apple Music / Spotify etc and I'll probably use something like the Focusrite Scarlet Solo as the USB/XLR interface

But which Genelec's to go for?

I'm in the UK, so my max budget is £500; I'd rather buy 2nd hand/used/well looked after around the £300-£400 mark though if I can

Reason for the Genelecs - small footprint etc - but also I've had active monitors now for years and much prefer their true, direct sound over hifi speakers which are coloured and made to make music sound better than it actually is - but also they're nowhere near as good for near-field listening

But open to other suggestions too - more so ones that I could just connect straight to my MBA (USB C or 3.5mm out etc)

I don't want the speakers to be too big; hence the idea of Genelecs

Depends on the room and listening environment but I'd go for the 8020/8030 variants. The G-series (AFAIK) have the same components inside but with RCA connectors added, so easy to connect to 3.5mm TRS, so if you find G2/G3 for less then go for that!

Im running a pair of 4030C (practically the same as 8030C) off my Focusrite Scarlett Solo gen 3. It works really well and I couldn't be happier.

Thanks for the replies folks...

I'd seen the iLoud speakers and their reviews; but to me they just look cheap and if I'm going to have the speakers on my desktop, I want them to look at least half decent

I've decided to go for a pair of ADAM Audio D3Vs in white - they land with me tomorrow, looking forward to connecting them up

A simple USB C connection is ideal as no interface needed them and less cables...

The Genelecs still really appeal to me, so may look at them further down the line and I may get a set just to see what they're all about

So I've gone for the Adam Audio D3Vs and I'm really glad I did; they sound absolutely superb straight out of the box, so you just know they're going to get better with more time through them

For their size they kick some weighty bass that's very well controlled; those passive radiators on their sides work superbly and no chuffing at all like you can get from bass ports





A quick video of how they sound (via my 16 Pro Max) with some bassy music; just listening to The Hu through them now
