I have messages set to “Save Forever” on my computer and iPhone … I don’t need the forever on my phone, can I set that for one year but keep forever on my computer?

Mods: If htis belongs in another forum, pelase move.

My personal sentimentality always leads me to choose to keep everything.

I have not experienced the granularity you desire (nor have I actually done the full science of the direct reciprocity between iOS and Mac OS).

Do you find yourself storage-constrained?

Just really some housekeeping.

If I am not mistaken, the setting is universal.
Correct - having found this out the hard way - it is universal.

Note to OP - it backs up to the cloud so when you get a new device it only downloads a few gigs to your device... Even my 1TB iPhone only has 9.77GB (local stored) of 70.6GB iCloud Messages.

My 4TB MBP - only has 47.46GB iMessages locally of 70.6GB iCloud Messages.
