Summary: Inuyasha is the incompetent new employee at a small café.

Kagome flitted from table to table cheerfully taking orders when she heard a loud clattering followed immediately by the sound of shattering glass in rapid succession from the area of the kitchen.

Not again, she groaned inwardly. She realized it was the guy’s first day on the job, but was seriously beginning to doubt his culinary abilities if he had difficulty cooking water. Excusing herself as politely as she could to the patron she was waiting on, Kagome hurried to the back of the café, pushing open the swinging door marked ‘Employees Only’.

“What happened in…?!” Kagome began, trailing off when she noticed the fire that was still going on the stove, and the huge pot of bubbling water Inuyasha was hefting in an attempt to pour the hot liquid into tiny, delicate teacups. “Are you alright?” she gasped, alarmed, making her way across the broken shards of glass littering the floor. Several fragile dishes had been knocked over by the clumsy new employee, and as she rushed toward him, Inuyasha spilled some of the steaming liquid which slopped all over his arm.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” he shrugged, setting the pot down.

His arm should be burned, but he’s acting like he doesn’t feel a thing! Concerned, Kagome quickly tugged back the sleeve of Inuyasha’s shirt to see the damage, and discovered…

“Looking for somethin’?” he asked, as Kagome stared in wonder at the unmarked flesh of his arm.

“Y-your arm, it’s…” she stammered, raising her bewildered eyes to meet his even, violet gaze. For an instant, she could have sworn she saw them flash gold. “N-nothing. Er, I mean...” Kagome released her grasp on his arm and turned away, reaching for a rag to mop up the mess with. “You wait tables; I’ll make the tea.”
