    A Path Forward

Through some strange twist of fate, we find ourselves capturing Garreg Mach for the second time. Our first victory signaled the start of the war, and today's victory will be a giant step toward ending it. Today--together--we usher in a new era. And at the end of this path lies our future. The time is now! All Imperial forces...advance!Edelgard, before the final confrontation with Rhea and Thales

A Path Forward is the final chapter of the Scarlet Blaze route in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. This consists only of a main quest, "The Defense of Garreg Mach", with no side quests or paralogues. This is the last opportunity for the player to give the Merc Whistle to one of their companions.

    Story

The Adrestian Empire emerges victorious over the armies of the Church of Seiros and the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus at Ailell, forcing most of their remaining forces, including Dimitri, to retreat to Fhirdiad. Rhea, undeterred, charges forward to reclaim Garreg Mach Monastery. Matters are complicated further when Thales makes his own bid for Garreg Mach and the remnants of Those Who Slither in the Dark begin attacking Imperial and Church troops as well as civilians indiscriminately. With both of her greatest enemies in one place, Edelgard sends her army back to Garreg Mach to bring a decisive end to both the Church army and Those Who Slither by defeating both of their leaders simultaneously. Count Varley and Baron Barnabas struggle to hold Garreg Mach with two enemy armies attacking them, so the Imperial army hurries to rescue the bishop, citing the difficulty of finding a suitable replacement for him.

"Just a minute! The following section contains spoilers. Viewing it will cost a lot. Are you prepared to pay for it?"

Myson, one of Thales' last surviving generals, conjures a large Wall of Darkness to split up the Imperial army. Killing him and his soldiers allows Shez and their allies to regroup. Catherine and Cyril attempt to defend the monastery from the Empire's attack, but both are slain in battle.

With no one else to oppose them, Edelgard and friends breach the monastery's reception hall to fight off Thales and his soldiers, and then charge into the cathedral for a final confrontation with Rhea, who transforms into the Immaculate One but is unable to hold this form for long as the Imperial army wears down her defenses. After sustaining significant damage, she reverts to her humanoid form and continues fighting, only for Thales to sneak in and attack both sides.

When Rhea and Thales are defeated at last, both leaders make defiant last stands, with Shez and Edelgard caught in the middle. Thales expends the last of his magic to strike a killing blow against Rhea, but Shez throws one of their swords at Thales' foot to ensure he cannot escape from Rhea's attack. As his magic and Rhea's sword collide, the section of the bridge Thales is standing on collapses, and the resulting explosion of magic seemingly kills both enemy leaders. Edelgard and Shez celebrate their ultimate victory with a high-five and return to the cathedral to plan their next move.

"End of spoilers. It's a pleasure doing business with you!"
