Duty Support(コンテンツサポーター, Kontentsu Sapōtā?, lit. Contents Suporter) is a gameplay feature in Final Fantasy XIV that allows players to run select main scenario duties with a party of allied NPCs, with the ability to revisit these dungeons and level up NPC avatars in the Trust(フェイス, Feisu?, lit. Faith) system.
Original interface for the Trust system when swapping party members.
The Duty Support system functions similarly to adventurer squadrons, sharing various elements. Players can enter dungeons with their NPC allies as an alternative to using the Duty Finder, useful for bypassing queue times, fighting alongside main scenario allies, and leveling up jobs in a solo player setting. Support NPCs will follow the player, teleporting close to them if separated, and the party will automatically return to the entrance if the player is KO'd. Otherwise, healers will Swiftcast raise spells in battle and hardcast outside of battle. Unlike adventurer squadrons, there are no player-given orders, and allied NPCs will acknowledge boss mechanics. They are also capable of reviving healers with tufts of phoenix down outside of battle, while DPS NPCs can use limit breaks. As when running a dungeon solo, treasure coffers have fewer rewards that are automatically given to the player, and some enemies won't drop items. Clear rewards are unaffected, and running a duty in this mode will count towards the challenge log, Wondrous Tales, and other such criteria, though roulettes are inaccessible.
Support NPCs do not use MP and are immune to many enfeeblements that player characters are afflicted with, including the standard Vulnerability Up debuff often given by failing mechanics in boss fights, as well as Weakness and Brink of Death debuffs that results as of being KO'd and subsequently revived. Duty Support NPCs often have access to unique abilities not available to the player; those using base class disciplines will often use renamed versions of abilities available to the promoted job. The AI may also solve mechanics before they are properly communicated to the player. When confronting enemies, support NPCs will refrain from disengaging until they are all dispatched, though the player may pull additional enemies themselves at the risk of being overwhelmed.
While the AI is able to compensate for any perceived loss of DPS, they are balanced around the expectation that a run will take around 25 minutes, with more time potentially added depending on player KOs and idle time, in comparison to the more standard 15 to 20 minutes a run with a party of other players would take.
For trials, the rules for running as a Duty Support are tweaked slightly. The fight is not significantly slower than it would be with a party of players, and the player gets three lives before the fight is reset, reviving automatically without penalty. The amount of times that a player may die before resetting is increased after every reset. These fights are not allowed to be played in Avatar mode.
The Duty Support system becomes available upon unlocking Sastasha, while the Trust system becomes available upon completing the main scenario quest Shadowbringers. Players can enter dungeons using the Duty Support menu, by interacting with the entrance of a Duty Support-compatible dungeon, or (in Shadowbringers content or later) by speaking to NPCs that accompanied them to the entrance. These NPCs will cover all necessary roles for the party composition of one tank, one healer, and two DPS. The NPCs will always be at the minimum level requirement for the dungeon. Upon completing the quest a dungeon is introduced in, it can be run afterwards with a party of NPC avatars using the Trust system.
Note that in all cases, Duty Support is strictly a solo player alternative. It is not possible to form parties with a mix of other players and support NPCs at the same time.
Overall, support NPCs can be split into 3 groups:
Adventurers: more generic characters created for the new system and older duties. The first four generics introduced by the system are recurring characters throughout all A Realm Reborn duties and some Heavensward dungeons, who, as the story progresses, join the Grand Companies, and eventually the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. Some Heavensward and Stormblood dungeons use a mixture of story characters and generics that more specifically suit that part of the story.
Avatars: the main focus of the original system. Available for main story duties in Shadowbringers onwards in either Duty Support (formerly scenario mode), including running it for the main story if desired, with restrictions based on the main story, or the Trust system (formerly avatar mode).
Story characters: Other important characters, typically only available for a single duty. As such they are not included in the Trust system and are only available for the initial run, or replaying the respective duty in Duty Support (formerly scenario mode), remaining at the same level. This is similar to guests in previous Final Fantasy iterations.
Trust
The Trust system is unlocked by completing the "Shadowbringers" quest, unlocking all the dungeons from patch 5.0's main scenario, with later dungeons being added after completing the quest that unlocks them. This system allows the player to revisit supported duties with avatars of support NPCs. Avatars can be used in all Trust-compatible dungeons regardless of their absence in the main scenario, with the exceptions of Ryne, Estinien, and Zero, who respectively: is exclusive to Shadowbringers dungeons, is available in dungeons introduced in Endwalker and onwards, and is only available in post-Endwalker dungeons. While support NPCs are normally at the required level of a duty, the initially available Trust avatars start at level 71 and must be leveled up to participate in further duties, though avatars acquired later start at higher levels. Avatars earn a fixed amount of experience for completing a duty, with more EXP awarded if they are below level 80. Upon reaching levels 80, 90, and 100, avatars can have glamours applied to them depicting previous and unique outfits.
Avatars have unique lines of dialogue in available dungeons at specific points and also respond to certain boss mechanics in different ways befitting their characters, though they are typically less expressive in dungeons that they weren't available for in the initial main story run. They also have some unique interactions between themselves, depending on the party setup.
Leveling all avatars to 80 rewards the achievementBound by Faith and the title "Trusted Friend", leveling all avatars to 90 rewards the achievement Bound by Hope and the title "The Seventh Dawn", and levelling all avatars to 100 rewards the achievement Bound by Amity and the title "Goldheart".
All-rounders
Certain characters can perform in multiple roles, granting the player some flexibility in how they arrange their party. Some such characters functionally have multiple classes or jobs for this purpose; for example, G'raha Tia and Venat's "all-rounder" discipline allows them to fill the role of tank (paladin), healer (white mage), or DPS (black mage for G'raha Tia, dancer for Venat). Other characters instead use a single discipline in multiple roles; for example, Haurchefant's chivalric knight and Aymeric's lord commander disciplines allow them to perform as a tank or a melee DPS, though they use the same pool of gladiator actions regardless of role.
When adding a character with multiple roles to the party, they will occupy the highest listed party slot they are allowed to; the order is the same as the player's party list sorting. All-rounders will be automatically barred from a role if having them join as that role would make party composition impossible (e.g. if G'raha is the only available tank, and the player themselves is not a tank, then the game will force G'raha to join the party as a paladin), in this event the barred role icons will disappear from that character's portrait in party selection and the boxes they appeared in will dim.
Some characters available as Trust avatars have access to alternate roles when using the Duty Support option in select duties, either using a different discipline or merely serving a different role with their usual discipline. For example, Urianger Augurelt can perform as either a healer (astrologian) or a DPS (lithomancer), but only during the trial The Mothercrystal. These alternate roles cannot be used in Trust mode.
Supported duties
Duty Support for A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood features pre-set party members that cannot be switched out. Certain characters are only in the party if the player has a specific role.
Duty Support for Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and Dawntrail features the ability to change party members and roles for characters who are all-rounders. Dungeons in these expansions are also playable with Trust avatars.

As she develops, she will learn new spells capable of doing high burst damage.
During the Porta Decumana, she will use Meteor in the last phase of the fight against Ultima Weapon if the player is not a DPS.
The thaumaturge's first outfit as the eager thaumaturge appears in Sastasha, the Tam-Tara Deepcroft, and Copperbell Mines.

Alphinaud's job is fixed based on the expansion the duty is from; he will always be an academician prior to Endwalker, and a sage from Endwalker onwards.
In Heavensward and Stormblood dungeons, Alphinaud's academician discipline is listed with the arcanist icon, and acts as an all-rounder discipline capable of serving as a healer or magical DPS. In Shadowbringers dungeons, academician is listed with the scholar icon, and Alphinaud can only serve the healer role.
For Ihuykatumu, Alphinaud will serve as a magical ranged DPS if the player is a healer.
As an academician, Alphinaud summons a carbuncle as his pet, regardless of role. While it lacks periodic healing, it will cast weak attack magic and can provide Damage Up buffs to party members. Alphinaud summons a normal carbuncle in Sohm Al, ruby carbuncle in the Vault, obsidian carbuncle from the Great Gubal Library to Castrum Abania, and moonstone carbuncle for Ala Mhigo and all Shadowbringers dungeons.
As an academician DPS, his skills are based on arcanist skills before the Endwalker rework.
As a sage, he does not use Kardia, however his healing spells have a higher potency to compensate.
Alphinaud will prioritize Alisaie's safety if they are grouped up. If she is not in the party, Alphinaud will instead prioritize the player.
Very strong at healing critical HP.
During the Funambulist's Fantasia mechanic in Dohn Mheg, Alphinaud will slowly walk through before nervously ("I'm not afraid... I'm not afraid...") running the rest of the way at the halfway point and takes a sigh of relief when finishing, preventing him from reaching the boss's barrier in time.
During the Frostbite and Seek mechanic in Ktisis Hyperboreia, Alphinaud will note the tracks left by Lyssa and figure out where to go ("Footprints?"), making it just in time to the dodge. During the second usage he will again note Lyssa's disappearance and follow the tracks to safety more quickly ("Vanished again... But again, it's left footprints.")
Alphinaud's default Trust avatar glamour is his Shadowbringers attire, which he wears in all Shadowbringers dungeons that take place in the First. In Duty Support chronology, this is his second outfit.
His level 80 Trust avatar glamour is his Heavensward attire which he wears in the Source until he obtains a new outfit in Endwalker. He wears this outfit in all of his Heavensward and Stormblood appearances, and Matoya's Relict and Paglth'an which take place in the Source. In Duty Support chronology, this is his first outfit.
His level 90 Trust avatar glamour is his Endwalker attire, which he wears in all duties from Endwalker onwards. In Duty Support chronology, this is his third outfit.
His level 100 Trust avatar glamour is an original attire designed for the theme of a summer vacation in Dawntrail.
Unlocked as a Trust avatar in the In the Dark of the Tower quest. Estinien's avatar starts at level 81 and cannot be used in Shadowbringers dungeons.
Estinien was retroactively added as a Duty Support party member in Heavensward dungeons, where he had yet to receive the power from Nidhogg's possession.
As a dragoon, has high HP and defense.
Many of his attacks are AoEs, making him very effective against a large number of enemies.
Estinien will immediately use limit breaks when possible if safe to do so. However if the tank dies, he will use his limit break immediately, regardless of his own safety.
During the Frostbite and Seek mechanic in Ktisis Hyperboreia, Estinien will use Elusive Jump to avoid the first cast. During the second usage, he will attempt to the flush out the boss using Stardiver, before walking casually to the safe side to wait.
Estinien's default Trust avatar glamour is his armor after the end of the Dragonsong War, which he wears in all duties from Endwalker onwards. In Duty Support chronology, this is his second outfit.
His level 80 Trust avatar glamour is his armor as the Azure Dragoon, used in his Heavensward Duty Support appearances. This outfit is unlocked by default for his Trust avatar. In Duty Support chronology, this is his first outfit.
His level 90 Trust avatar glamour is his adventuring attire that debuted in Shadowbringers.
His level 100 Trust avatar glamour is an original attire designed for the theme of a summer vacation in Dawntrail.
The oracle of frost discipline shares animations and functions with gladiator or thaumaturge depending on the required role.
As a gladiator, she will use abilities used by Shiva through her rotation. If overwhelmed, she will use Icebrand, a potent AoE, signalled by ("Shiva, aid me!"). Uses Excellence, a renamed Hallowed Ground, when near death.
As a thaumaturge, Ysayle exclusively uses Blizzard spells and AoEs often, but does not build up Astral Ice.
Has a unique level 2 limit break as a thaumaturge, reminiscent of Shiva's Diamond Dust.
Ysayle has only one outfit for her single appearance in Sohm Al.
An unnamed Elezen whose knight discipline shares animations and functions as a gladiator and serves as the party's tank in the Aery if the player is not a tank.
Will use Excellence, a renamed Hallowed Ground, when near death, but otherwise nothing noteworthy.
Has only one outfit for his single appearance in the Aery.
An unnamed Elezen whose chirurgeon discipline shares animations and functions as a conjurer and serves as the party's healer in the Aery if the player is not a healer.
Will use Aero II for high burst damage, signalled by ("I call upon the wind!").
Despite being equipped with a shield, she cannot block with it.
Has only one outfit for her single appearance in the Aery.
An unnamed Hyur whose banneret discipline shares animations and functions as a lancer and serves as the party's second DPS in the Aery (if the player is not a DPS), the Vault, and Sohr Khai.
Rarely uses limit breaks, deferring to the other DPS party members (Estinien, Haurchefant, Alphinaud, Aymeric, or the player).
Has only one outfit, used in the Aery, the Vault and Sohr Khai.
The chivalric knight discipline shares icon and animations with gladiator, but can serve as either a tank or melee DPS. Haurchefant will not use Iron Will as a DPS, and thus generates less enmity; he also uses melee DPS limit breaks. Both roles use the same weaponskills and animations.
As a tank, he will cast Cure when he or the party are at low HP.
As a DPS, his HP and defense are reduced to that of a lancer; to compensate, he is more aggressive against bosses and his Shield Bash is now used for burst damage but without stun. He will not cast Cure as a DPS.
Uses some paladin abilities regardless of role.
Haurchefant has only one outfit for his single appearance in the Vault.
For duties prior to Shadowbringers, Y'shtola uses the archon discipline which shares animations with conjurer and serves as a DPS in Heavensward and a healer in Stormblood. From Shadowbringers onward, Y'shtola uses the sorceress job, shares animations and functions with black mage.
For the Fell Court of Troia, the Lunar Subterrane, Everkeep, the Meso Terminal, and the Ageless Necropolis, Y'shtola can switch to a unique variant of sorceress, that acts closer to conjurer, if the player's job is not a healer. Outside of those duties, Y'shtola can only act as a DPS while using the sorceress job.
Y'shtola will cast offensive magic in set sequences, using visuals from both thaumaturge/black mage and conjurer/white mage spells. Periodically in Shadowbringers onward, she will instead use Foul and then cast multiple Fire IV spells.
Has some minor AoE splash damage through her spell rotation.
Uses Cure of the Seventh Dawn to heal any party member at critical HP, albeit at a low frequency. If the entire party is at critical HP or that the healer is dead, she will heal more often. She cannot raise.
If a party member dies or if she is at critical HP, she will use Manaward to shield herself, exclaiming ("Don't be so reckless.").
If her Manaward shield is broken and she is outside of healing range while at critical HP, she will use Aetherial Manipulation to position herself next to the healer.
As a healer, she attempts to strike a balance between healing and damage with high reaction times. If the party is healthy, she will switch to a rotation similar to her DPS behavior and is capable of using Flare for high AoE damage.
As a result of her aetheric sight, Y'shtola is regularly able to dodge avoidable mechanics that would hit other party members at least once.
During the Funambulist's Fantasia mechanic in Dohn Mheg, Y'shtola will simply briskly walk through as if there were no illusion ("An asinine trick.").
During the Frostbite and Seek mechanic in Ktisis Hyperboreia, Y'shtola will be able to see the aether of the boss in hiding and walks to the safe spot immediately.
Y'shtola's default Trust avatar glamour is her attire from Shadowbringers onwards, which she wears in all duties. In Duty Support chronology, this is her second outfit.
Her level 80 Trust avatar glamour is her attire from Heavensward and Stormblood. In her Heavensward and Stormblood Duty Support appearances, Y'shtola uses a different portrait. In Duty Support chronology, this is her first outfit.
Her level 90 Trust avatar glamour is her Garlemald attire from Endwalker.
Her level 100 Trust avatar glamour is an original attire designed for the theme of a summer vacation in Dawntrail.
For duties prior to Shadowbringers, Thancred uses the archon discipline, an all-rounder discipline shareing animations and functions with gladiator or rogue depending on the required role. From Shadowbringers onward, Thancred uses the gunbreaker job and can only serve the tank role.
As a gladiator, Thancred does not carry a shield, and thus does not use Shield Bash or Shield Lob in his rotation.
As a gunbreaker, Thancred will not use cartridge-based skills in Shadowbringers dungeons unless Ryne (and later, Y'shtola or Urianger) is in the party, owing to his inability to charge cartridges on his own. This does not affect his performance significantly, as he uses alternate, but functionally identical, abilities in their place. In Endwalker he can use cartridge-based skills regardless of party setup.
Very strong against bosses as he is able to sustain himself with self-healing and shields.
Will conserve mitigation buffs, using them against tank busters and when at low HP, however if the player pulls enemies ahead of him, he will use his buffs more frequently and attempt to blind the mobs using Quick Slash, an AoE attack, signaled by ("Are you alright?!").
If a party member is injured, Thancred will refrain from using Aurora on himself and instead use it on the party member on low HP, prioritizing the player and then healers.
Frequently uses Heart of Light to increase the party's magic defense when an unavoidable enemy AoE is incoming.
Focuses more on single target through his rotation, with higher self-sustain and utility compared to G'raha as a paladin.
During the Funambulist's Fantasia mechanic in Dohn Mheg, Thancred expresses mild annoyance ("This wouldn't fool a child.") before running part of the way and leaping across to the boss using Shukuchi ("Good thing I'm light on my feet.").
During the Frostbite and Seek mechanic in Ktisis Hyperboreia, Thancred will be unimpressed by Lyssa's ability to use stealth, and quickly notes the footprints in the snow giving away its location before moving to safety. During the second usage, he is mildly impressed that Lyssa tries to confuse the party by wandering in stealth more, but notes that the same problem as before persists.
During the Mothercrystal, Thancred acts as main tank while G'raha becomes off-tank. If the player is a tank, Thancred will be the off-tank, supporting the player with stack mechanics and buffs.
Thancred's default Trust avatar glamour is his attire from Shadowbringers onwards, which he wears in all duties. In Duty Support chronology, this is his second outfit.
His level 80 Trust avatar glamour is his attire from Heavensward and Stormblood. This outfit is unlocked for his Trust avatar by leveling him up to 80. In his Duty Support appearance for the Antitower, Thancred uses a different portrait depending on whether he is a tank or DPS. In Duty Support chronology, this is his first outfit.
His level 90 Trust avatar glamour is his Garlemald attire from Endwalker.
His level 100 Trust avatar glamour is an original attire designed for the theme of a summer vacation in Dawntrail.
The lord commander discipline shares icon and animations with gladiator, but can serve as either a tank or melee DPS. Aymeric will not use Iron Will as a DPS, and thus generates less enmity; he also uses melee DPS limit breaks. Both roles use the same weaponskills and animations.
An unnamed Elezen whose knight discipline shares animations and functions as gladiator and serves as the party's tank in Xelphatol if the player is not a tank.
Uses some paladin abilities.
Has only one outfit for his single appearance in Xelphatol.
An unnamed Elezen whose banneret discipline shares animations and functions as lancer and serves as a melee DPS for the party in Xelphatol regardless of the player's chosen role.
Defers limit breaks to the player or Alphinaud.
Has only one outfit for his single appearance in Xelphatol.
For Worqor Zormor and Worqor Lar Dor, Alisaie will serve as a healer if the player is not a healer. She gains access to unique actions to help fulfill the role, such as Vermedica.
Alisaie will immediately use limit breaks when possible, including level 1, though she does tend to wait for level 2 on the final boss. In Endwalker onwards, she receives a unique level 2 limit break called Vermilion Pledge, based on the Resolution spell with higher potency.
Will heal and raise in emergencies, making her well balanced and reliable, but does not truly excel in any specific playstyle.
Tends to slightly prioritize Alphinaud's safety if he is in the party, though not to the extent that he looks after her.
If Alphinaud or the player are struggling with healing the party back up to full HP, she will attempt to heal more frequently until the party is back to healthy levels, signalled by ("I'll handle the healing!").
During the Funambulist's Fantasia mechanic in Dohn Mheg, Alisaie will sprint the entire way ("Oh, come now. We know this is an illusion.").
During the Frostbite and Seek mechanic in Ktisis Hyperboreia, Alisaie will become frustrated and attempt to reveal the boss's hiding place with several uses of Contre Sixte before running to the safe spot.
Alisaie's default Trust avatar glamour is her Shadowbringers attire, which she wears in all Shadowbringers dungeons that take place in the First. In Duty Support chronology, this is her second outfit.
Her level 80 Trust avatar glamour is her Heavensward attire which she wears in the Source until she obtains a new outfit in Endwalker. She wears this outfit in all of her Heavensward and Stormblood appearances, and Matoya's Relict and Paglth'an which take place in the Source. In Duty Support chronology, this is her first outfit.
Her level 90 Trust avatar glamour is her Endwalker attire, which she wears in all duties from Endwalker onwards. In Duty Support chronology, this is her third outfit.
Her level 100 Trust avatar glamour is an original attire designed for the theme of a summer vacation in Dawntrail.
Normally uses limit breaks immediately against bosses once the gauge fills, though she will wait for level 2 on the last boss of a dungeon. During Ala Mhigo, however, she will not use the level 2 limit break until Zenos' add phase ends.
Her first outfit is her appearance from the start of Stormblood, which she wears in Sirensong Sea and Bardam's Mettle.
Her second outfit is her appearance from the end of Stormblood onwards, which she wears in Ala Mhigo.
An unnamed Au Ra whose shaman discipline shares animations and functions with conjurer and serves as the party's healer in Bardam's Mettle if the player is not a healer.
Very quick to react when healing.
As of patch 6.4, she has no lines of dialogue throughout the dungeon.
Has only one outfit for her single appearance in Bardam's Mettle.
Hien's version of the samurai job serves as an all-rounder capable of acting as a tank or DPS depending on the duty.
Only uses iaijutsu after accumulating enough Sen for Midare Setsugekka.
Against bosses (with the exception of Bardam), he will use limit breaks when available as soon as it is safe to do so.
Has only one outfit, used in Bardam's Mettle, the Burn, and Ghimlyt Dark.
As a tank, he shares Engetsu with Gosetsu, using it to draw enmity from enemies at the start of an encounter. Uses Honed Eye, a unique defense-boosting ability.
An unnamed Hyur whose shaman discipline shares animations and functions with conjurer and serves as the party's healer in Doma Castle if the player is not a healer.
During normal encounters, he stays away from the fight and focuses on avoiding AoE attacks. This may result in being late to heal.
As of patch 6.4, he has no lines of dialogue throughout the dungeon.
Has only one outfit, used in Doma Castle and Ghimlyt Dark.
As of patch 6.4, they have no lines of dialogue throughout the dungeon.
Has only one outfit for their single appearance in Castrum Abania, which they share with the Resistance pikedancer, though their portraits are different.
An unnamed Hyur whose pikedancer discipline shares animations and functions with lancer and serves as the party's second DPS in Castrum Abania in the event the player chooses to play as a tank.
Defers limit breaks to Alisaie.
As of patch 6.4, they have no lines of dialogue throughout the dungeon.
Has only one outfit for their single appearance in Castrum Abania, which they share with the Resistance fighter, although their portraits are different.
During the battle with Zenos, as the add phase ends, he will use Divine Veil (which functions as it did prior to Endwalker) and then Clemency on himself to grant the barrier effect to the party.
Has only one outfit, used in Ala Mhigo and the Drowned City of Skalla.
Raubahn's champion gladiator discipline allows him to serve as a DPS using gladiator abilities.
Uses the Bull of Ala Mhigo, a renamed Intervene, for burst damage. Against bosses, also uses a unique burst attack, Flaming Tizona.
Uses limit breaks immediately against bosses when the gauge fills, though he will not use it during Zenos' add phase. Has a unique level 2 limit break, Immortal Flame.
Has only one outfit for his single appearance in Ala Mhigo.
Lyna's guard captain discipline shares animations and functions with dancer, however she does not use Closed Position to select a Dance Partner. As a soldier, her efforts are more focused on offense, prioritizing the use of Technical Finish to increase the party's damage.
As an all-rounder, he changes abilities completely, sharing animations and functions with paladin/gladitor, white mage/conjurer, or black mage/thaumaturge depending on the desired role.
Uses abilities available to the job he is using despite not being at the required level for them.
As the Crystal Exarch, he is only playable in Duty Support, formerly scenario mode. After completing the quest Reflections in Crystal, G'raha Tia joins as Trust avatar and starts at level 80.
As a paladin he is all-around good, effective against any type of encounter and AoE's often through his rotation. Will use Clemency on himself and others at low HP and uses Hallowed Ground in emergencies but otherwise relies on his high defense.
Aggressive as a white mage, AoEs frequently and runs into groups to use Holy and stun them, making him very effective against a large number of enemies but can struggle healing critical HP.
As a black mage he functions similar to Y'shtola, although G'raha sacrifices AoE damage for high single target damage and will not heal in emergencies. He will rarely use a limit break, as most other Scions are more likely to do it first and he defers to the player if they are a DPS.
During the Funambulist's Fantasia mechanic in Dohn Mheg, G'raha Tia will run to the start of the rope and stop briefly to unsheathe his weapon ("I regret to disappoint, but I'm more than comfortable with heights!"), then sprint the entire way.
During the Frostbite and Seek mechanic in Ktisis Hyperboreia, G'raha will first be shocked by Lyssa's disappearance and confuse it for the Vanish spell, but realizes the truth in time to get out of the way ("Is this...Vanish?...No, it couldn't be."). During the second usage, he will identify the safe spot quickly and run over, stretching while waiting for Lyssa to reappear ("If you would conceal yourself...You must really learn to cover your tracks.").
During the Mothercrystal, G'raha will act as the off-tank to Thancred if the player is not a tank. If the player is a tank, G'raha will stay as a black mage with Thancred acting as the off-tank instead.
G'raha Tia's first outfit is his initial appearance as the Crystal Exarch, which he wears in Holminster Switch. This outfit is unlocked by default for his Trust avatar.
G'raha Tia's second outfit is his second appearance as the Crystal Exarch with his hood down, which he wears in the Grand Cosmos. This outfit is not available for his Trust avatar.
His third outfit is his appearance as G'raha Tia from patch 5.3 onwards, and is used for all duties from Matoya's Relict onwards. This outfit is the default outfit for his Trust avatar.
His fourth outfit is his Garlemald attire from Endwalker.
His level 100 Trust avatar glamour is an original attire designed for the theme of a summer vacation in Dawntrail.
Known as Minfilia in Dohn Mheg and the Qitana Ravel in the main scenario.
Her oracle of light discipline shares animations and functions with rogue.
Ryne is the only Trust avatar whose discipline appears as a class instead of a job, though this does not make her any less effective in combat than the rest.
Has a low priority to use limit breaks and prioritizes fight mechanics and her own wellbeing, making her unlikely to use it in time or attempt it again. If the player is a DPS, she will not use limit breaks at all.
For most encounters Ryne will initially use Vanish, approach the enemy, and use Trick Attack to lower her target's defense.
Frequently uses Artful Edge to lower her target's attack.
Ryne has access to the unique spell Banish to attack enemies out of her range.
During the Funambulist's Fantasia mechanic in Dohn Mheg, Ryne will nervously pause at the start ("W-We're supposed to cross this?") before tip-toeing through while pausing at certain points ("One step at a time...") and is unable to reach the boss's barrier in time.
Ryne's avatar can be used in Matoya's Relict and Paglth'an despite these duties occurring in the Source.
Her avatar is capped at level 80 and she cannot be used in Endwalker or Dawntrail duties.
Ryne's default Trust avatar glamour is her appearance after taking the name Ryne, and is used in all duties from Malikah's Well onwards. In Duty Support chronology, this is her second outfit.
Her level 80 Trust avatar glamour is her appearance as Minfilia, which she uses in Dohn Mheg and the Qitana Ravel. In Duty Support chronology, this is her first outfit. Minfilia's Duty Support appearances use a different portrait.
For the Mothercrystal, Urianger can switch to the lithomancer discipline if the player's job is a healer. This is the only duty where he can change discipline.
Lithomancer acts similarly to how arcanists and summoners behaved prior to their rework in Endwalker, with a persistent topaz Carbuncle pet supplementing Urianger's own damage. Urianger is still capable of raising as a lithomancer and will do so immediately if needed.
Will occasionally use Gravity, an AoE damaging spell that also inflicts slow and heavy on enemies, making him effective against a large number of enemies. In Endwalker, Gravity has received a large damage buff and is used more frequently if the party is healthy, making him an effective damage dealer against all encounters.
In Shadowbringers duties, Urianger will on occasion cast Death on enemies to instantly defeat them. This does not extend to bosses, and will always target the enemy with the lowest HP.
Provides damage up buffs to the DPS in the party, generally favoring the player.
During the Funambulist's Fantasia mechanic in Dohn Mheg, Urianger expresses mild amusement before teleporting across ("This shan't trouble us.").
During the Frostbite and Seek mechanic in Ktisis Hyperboreia, Urianger will immediately realize what is happening and makes no hurry to get to safety, gliding away at the last second knowing he will dodge in time. During the second time he will be unimpressed the boss would repeat its tactics, which causes Urianger to repeat his own method to dodge.
Urianger's default Trust avatar glamour is his attire from Shadowbringers onwards, which he wears in all duties. In Duty Support chronology, this is his only outfit.
His level 80 Trust avatar glamour is his attire from A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood.
His level 90 Trust avatar glamour is the unmasked version of his outfit from when he was assisting the Warriors of Darkness in Heavensward, which he also wore as his Garlemald attire in Endwalker.
His level 100 Trust avatar glamour is an original attire designed for the theme of a summer vacation in Dawntrail.
The soulseer discipline shares animations and functions with bard.
Will use True Benediction to fully restore the target's HP if it is dangerously low.
Will use True Raise to instantly raise Emet-Selch and Venat if they are defeated in battle.
If the Limit Gauge is full when encountering a boss, Hythlodaeus will immediately use limit break once the boss is engaged. If the gauge fills during battle, he will wait for a safe opening. He will not use limit break if the player is a DPS.
During the Frostbite and Seek mechanic in Ktisis Hyperboreia, he will express amusement over the strategy and will simply teleport to the safe spot at the last second.
Hythlodaeus has only one outfit for his single appearance in Ktisis Hyperboreia.
The third seat discipline acts like a dark knight or black mage depending on the desired role.
As a dark knight, his tank stance is Klymenos, literally "The Famous One". At low HP he will begin casting high damaging spells on his target, when near death he will use Katabasis, functioning identical to Living Dead.
As a black mage, like Y'sthola, he can use more elemental spells than the usual Fire/Blizzard/Thunder.
Will use Anabasis to instantly raise Hythlodaeus and Venat if they are defeated in battle, regardless of role.
Incorporates his signature fingersnap when spell-casting.
As a DPS, he will immediately use limit breaks against bosses, though he is slower on the draw than Hythlodaeus if the Limit Gauge is full at the start of the encounter.
During the Frostbite and Seek mechanic in Ktisis Hyperboreia, he will express annoyance over the strategy and will simply teleport to the safe spot at the last second.
Emet-Selch has only one outfit for his single appearance in Ktisis Hyperboreia.
As an all-rounder, she shares animations and functions with paladin, white mage, or dancer depending on the desired role.
Extremely aggressive, will provide frequent buffs to the party and reacts very fast to mechanics.
Has access to True Renew, a healing spell that fully recovers the party's HP and MP. She will use it if the player or the party are on dangerously low HP, or if Emet-Selch as a dark knight uses Katabasis.
Will use True Arise to instantly raise Emet-Selch and Hythlodaeus if they are defeated in battle, regardless of role.
As a paladin she has a unique battle stance and will keep casting Clemency on herself when on low HP. When near death she will use True Hallowed Ground and heals herself to full using True Renew.
As a white mage she will cast True Stoneskin regularly, granting a potent shield to the party.
As a dancer, though she will not use Closed Position, she will cast True Bravery on the player frequently, buffing their damage, while also using True Finish to further buff the party's damage.
Has a unique level 2 limit break as a dancer called Thelema.
During the Frostbite and Seek mechanic in Ktisis Hyperboreia, Venat will immediately get to the safe spot and casually waits for the Warrior of Light, Emet-Selch and Hythlodaeus to join her.
Venat has only one outfit for her single appearance in Ktisis Hyperboreia.
The sartrap discipline shares animations and functions with gladiator or dragoon, depending on the desired role.
Regardless of role, he will use The Scarlet Whisper, an AoE attack with high burst damage, signalled by ("I am of the first brood!").
As a gladiator, he uses Hailed Radiance, a single target attack that absorbs HP, and Young Star, an AoE attack that absorbs HP from every enemy he hits, allowing him very high sustainability. When near death he will use Warding Scales, a renamed Hallowed Ground.
As a dragoon he does not use jumps and has less abilities overall than Estinien, but attempts to compensate by using The Scarlet Whisper.
Has a unique level 2 limit break, Ashen Thread, which has an extremely short recovery animation, and will attempt to use it immediately when it becomes available. At level 1, he tends to defer to the player or Estinien.
Has only one outfit for his appearances in the Fell Court of Troia, Lapis Manalis, the Aetherfont, and the Lunar Subterrane.
Unlocked as Trust avatar in the King of the Mountain quest. Zero's avatar is capped at level 90 and can only be used in dungeons in which she was available in Duty Support. This means she cannot be used in Shadowbringers or Dawntrail duties.
Utilises the memoriate discipline, which shares animations and functions with reaper, without avatar and Enshroud related skills.
Has her own version of Communio utilized for AOE damage.
Has only one outfit for her appearances in Lapis Manalis, the Aetherfont, and the Lunar Subterrane.
Unlocked as Trust avatar in the For All Turali quest. Krile's avatar starts at level 91 and can only be used in Dawntrail dungeons.
If limit break is available at the start of a boss fight, Krile will use it immediately. Otherwise, she will wait for a safe opportunity to do so, and will likely interrupt herself if the enemy requires it.
Krile has only one outfit as a Duty Support party member, which is her pictomancer attire from the last patch of Endwalker onwards. It also serves as her default Trust avatar glamour.
Her level 100 Trust avatar glamour is an original attire designed for the theme of a summer vacation in Dawntrail.
Uses the intrepid discipline which shares icon and animations with warrior, but can serve as either a tank or melee DPS. Wuk Lamat will not use Defiance as a DPS, and thus generates less enmity; she also uses melee DPS limit breaks. Both roles use the same weaponskills and animations.
As a DPS, her HP and defense are lowered to that of a lancer; to compensate, she is more aggressive against bosses.
As a DPS, Wuk Lamat will use limit breaks as soon as they are available. During trials, she has a unique level 3 limit break, Dawnlit Conviction.
Has only one outfit, which she uses in all Dawntrail duties she is available in.
Sphene uses the zoemancer discipline, which shares animations and functions with summoner, however she does not summon a familiar to aid her in battle.
For Mistwake, her zoemancer discipline is an all-rounder that functions similarly to scholar and can fill the healer role if the player is not one. Like her role as a caster DPS, she does not summon a familiar to aid her in healing.
She will immediately use limit breaks when possible.
During the Ageless Necropolis, she uses a caster level 3 limit break unique to her called Mercy's Justice.
Has only one outfit for her appearances in the Meso Terminal, Mistwake, and the Ageless Necropolis.
Behind the scenes
Duty Support was first announced alongside Shadowbringers in the North American Fan Festival 2018, and was originally known as Trust when released in patch 5.0. At the time, Trust featured a "scenario" mode for doing duties as part of the quests that introduced them—including through New Game+—and an "avatar" mode for revisiting duties with NPC avatars. The overarching system and its scenario mode was renamed to Duty Support in patch 6.1, with the Trust name now applying solely to the former avatar mode, which became its own system.
While originally only covering duties introduced from Shadowbringers onwards, the system was gradually expanded to include all main scenario dungeons and reworked 4-player trials during Endwalker's patch cycle. Support for a first batch of duties from the initial release of A Realm Reborn was added in patch 6.1, with the remaining A Realm Reborn duties and the first three Heavenward duties added in patch 6.2. Support for the remaining Heavensward duties was added in patch 6.3, while support for base Stormblood duties was added in patch 6.4 and post-Stormblood duties were added in patch 6.5. Starting with patch 7.1, levelling dungeons not part of the main scenario were gradually added, finishing with patch 7.5.
