An expedition is a recurring gameplay feature in the Final Fantasy series, mainly appearing in mobile, free-to-play titles. Expeditions are an idle method of item farming and level grinding, with players often deploying otherwise idle units or characters to collect items over time and increase their levels. Those characters "sent away" are often unavailable during the time of the expedition. Expeditions can have multiple locations or targets that can be chosen, with different rewards depending on the expedition target.

Expeditions are the idle item farming mechanism. Active behind the scenes at all times, the player needs only to set up and configure each expedition mission to start collecting items. Expeditions are accessed via their eponymous menu option on the Home screen.

Within 
Island Sanctuary, after building a granary, players can send mammets on expeditions to various location, allowing them to obtain island materials already gathered manually, as well as rare materials that can only be obtained through expeditions.
