    FFT Errands
    Choosing Errands.

A record of the errands your party members have undertaken.Description

Errands (儲け話の話, Mōke Hanashinohanashi?), also known as Propositions, are short sidequests in Final Fantasy Tactics. Starting from chapter 2, errands become available in taverns across Ivalice. Errands consist of sending one to three generic human characters away for a number of days in exchange for some JP and gil. Ramza, storyline characters, and monsters cannot be sent. The tavernmaster will mention how long the errand will run for, e.g. 12–15 days. Spending the maximum time earns the maximum rewards. Errands can be completed at any time after they first appear, and cannot be permanently failed. Accepting an errand costs a small fee in gil.

Once the time allotted has passed, the player can revisit the same tavern for a report on the errand:

    • Success: The characters will mention that "The stars were with us from the outset." This yields the maximum rewards, as well as the bonus, if applicable. The errand will be considered "completed", unlocking the next errand in the quest chain if present. The story of the errand will be added to Chronicle → Feats → Past in the map menu.
    • Failure: This yields severely reduced rewards and no bonus. The errand is not considered completed and can be attempted again after one month has passed.
    • Absolute failure: Same as failure, but the rewards are further decreased to about 1/20 of what they originally would be.

The success or failure of the errand depends on the amount of characters sent, their level, job, and their faith and bravery. Some errands also have specific "skill saver" jobs suited to them, wherein sending a character of a certain job will dramatically increase the odds of success. This is where the characters remark "The skills of a (job) were a great boon to us!" These jobs may still not be the best in terms of actual reward payout.

Despite these mechanics, errands are generally difficult to fail as long as the player sends a team of three. A balanced team of different jobs should be able to complete nearly every errand.

    Rewards

    FFT Errands Reward
Receiving a reward from an errand.

Successful errands yield JP to the participants, along with some gil. Most errands also offer a bonus such as "ore" or "bags of gil", which amount to extra money. Alternatively, some errands yield an Artefact or a Wonder. These are small pieces of lore that have no effect on the gameplay, they can be viewed under Chronicles on the map menu.

The amount of JP and gil awarded depends on various factors:

    • The errand's base pay
    • The number of days chosen for the expedition
    • Participants' jobs (only affects their personal reward)
    • Participants' bravery and faith (some errands prefer high/low bravery/faith, but the difference in the final reward is small)
    • The bonus

The "skill saver" jobs may not actually be the best jobs for the errand in terms of rewards. It is usually preferable to send units of a job that the player is currently developing to make use of the JP reward.

The bonus depends on the type of errand. Most bonuses have three tiers and it is random which one the player gets; the better bonuses are rarer. Wonders and Artefacts have no tiers; a random one will be awarded. The bonus tier is not determined until the expedition party reports on their quest, so the player can save their game before hearing the report and try again for a better bonus.

Artefacts are gained from various errand types. Wonders are discovered on exploration errands. Bags of gil are earned from combat and salvage errands (salvage earns more). Ore is gained from mining errands. Payment is earned for investigation errands. Prize Money is earned for melee errands. Reward Money is earned for odd jobs. Some jobs do not give any bonus.
